it's just like comparing the 65 version of louie louie by the sonics with the motörhead cover, the sonics sound more brutal that motörhead despite the 65 recording technique.

Janis Joplin NEVER missed a gig, and back in the late 60's, they performed nightly, even when Janis was famous, I remember Albert Grossman's office booked her to play 2 shows, same venue, but like 7PM & 10PMshe's onlty human and I do partly blame the music biz for what happened to her.

The glory days of rock music in arenas. This brings back LOTS of memories. They just don't make music like this anymore. Sounded good on my shitty Jensen 6X9's back then but sounds Hellaciously Awesome on my car's boom system!

Van Halens version is a Hard Rock ballz to the wall screaming guitar classic thats been listened to by every generation of guitar players and Rock music fans from the late 1970's until now and probably will be for ever. I like the kinks version too, edgy with a bunch of underlying attitude and mallice but its really more of a pop/rock song version. Kinks fans usually hate VH because of this song alone, but it is an ALL TIME CLASSIC Heavy version

for the time van halen released this it was a very very very average metal sound, not ballsy at all anymore, while in 64 the kinks version, the distorted fuzzy lead guitar, the wild all out solo was one of the heaviest sounds ever heard up to that moment.
it's just like comparing the 65 version of louie louie by the sonics with the motörhead cover, the sonics sound more brutal that motörhead despite the 65 recording technique.

Im pretty sure Vh paid for the right to use that song and the kinks would have done alright financially from the deal. The problem you guys have is that Vh's version became more famous than the Kinks version. Your gonna just have to get over that. I like both bands for very different reasons, and guess what i like about 20 other bands as well and they all play very different styles of music.

it was more famous in the initial phase of it's release, but since classic rock appreciation is today much biggrer than in the 70s the kinks version again is more known, just the way it should be.
