Just one question......Do you always keep the door open? or you keep it closed and you open it only to check on the eggs.....pls reply asap as my cockatiel just laid 2 eggs =)
i have a problem with my cockatiels....they both mated but the mom doesnt like to be in the nest box and the dad tried to force her to get in and take care of it..... does this mean that she knows that the egg isnt fertile?
My cockatiel (that i thought was a guy..) just laid an egg, but since there was no nesting box it broke, but she doesnt seem too worried about it. Now ive put a nest box in there but the male keeps on going in and he won't let her in..Is that normal?
The male bird will look after the eggs as well as the female. My birds used to take it in turns being in the nest. One would do the day shift and the other the night shift. i do not think that one bird can do it alone so make sure they are in the same cage. Good luck with your eggs.
i need help my female cockatiel layed eggs and now the male is attacking her trying to kick her out of the nest is this normal ???? and he wont let her back in the nest i felt so bad for her i locked him up in another cage. now hes going nuts trying to get out. what should i do ....
Birds will always feed their young, reguardless of if they are in a cage, an avairy or in the wild. Just protect them from rain and snow, give them good food and clean water, they'll do the rest themselves.
If they do happen to stop feeding a chick, it's because they know something is wrong with it and that it won't survive to be an adult, or because the parents themselves are starving.
not always true. my female is just fine with me handling them, she gives me a little guff when i poke my head in to check on everything, but as soon as i leave she sits right back on them and forgets about it.
Actually that is the male bird in the nest. He is swaying trying to look threatening to keep me away from his chicks. Even though he is a pet it is a natural instinct to do this. He doesnt mind me holding his young.
I am not so sure female cockatiels can be either white and yellow or gray in one color covering orange cheeks.the male must be yellow with white with the orange cheeks and the rest of the body must be dark grey.
Check if there are stripes under the tail. Females have stripes, males don't; unless it's a young male, it will still have some faint stripes (all babies have stripes). I hope this helps! ^_^
Yes they do need a nest box to lay eggs in. You can only tell male from female after they are about 12 mths old. When they get new tail feathers. Under the tail the male will be a solid colour and the female will have stripes.
whats the best thing i can make as a nest for my cockatiel? just bought it today

That's because it's not meant to be funny.
Besides, would you liked to be watched constantly if you were that bird?
