went from an old Q6600 to a phenom iix4 955 along with an MSI 870 M/B for only 160euros ( both CPU+Mobo ) and the performance increase i saw at least in games was amazing ( apparently the Q6600 was limiting ny gtx460 way to much )
Now overclock a processor that's actually good. Also i'd rather see more of your build process and more numbers, instead of showing off your video editing skills. Thanks.
Do you want a big performance boost in your pc games?
You should overclock your graphics card. You just need to tweak some simple settings, and you will get a huge boost in the quality, and the speed of your games! Get the guide which tells you how to do it, 100% free, 100% safe from:
Did you know that by overclocking you can get an extra 12 fps in your games, without even having to get another fan? The guide on my site is really cheap and helps you to overclock your computer, step by step, making it better than a high end thousand dollar one!
I just bought a laptop with the ATI Mobility Radeon 5650 HD, and it blows my mind. I can play Assassins Creed 2 MAXED out and it's SEAMLESS! Plus, the laptop doesn't get noticably hot at all.
I want two times faster clock to clock CPU @4.0GHz compared to a Intel Core i7 Quad Core CPU and to be 35W TDP or 45W TDP or at least 65W TDP. Then i will uprgade my system.
Hey I'm going to be building a PC soon and I'm getting a AMD Phenom II X4 965 on a Gigabyte 790GX motherboard (GA-MA790GPT-UD3H). I'm also getting a Swiftech H20-220 compact water cooling kit and a Swiftech MCW30 for the northbridge. I was hoping to get an overclock of 4.5Ghz with that, you think its possible or are my hopes too high?
str8 intel may use 775 for long But ....most p4 motherboard will accept only pentium D ...
pentium D generation motherboards does not support core 2 duo or quat of 6xxx family
and core 2 duo /quad 6xxx motherboards may not support 9xxx core i5 and core i7 got diferent slots .... so if you look AM2+ and AM3 they offer better compatibility atm ... and at the momment phenom 2 looking more atractive than Core 2 cpus on every aspect ...even thought intel completly dominate for 2 years ...
The 920 is a better comparison for the PHII considering they are in the same price brackets and such.
As far as benchmarks go, they trade off in which is better. Though, on average, the 920 does perform ~10% better than the PHII. Something to note though is that outside of encoding and computations, there is little performance difference between the two; they're both rather high end processors.
Also - yes, PHII is the best extreme overclocker BY FAR. But it is also a better overclocker~4.2ghz
Sadly, the MOBOs price difference (~$100) isn't the only price factor. There is also upgradeability. With new 32nm processors on the verge of being released in a few months, people sporting an AMD MOBO won't have to worry about upgradding. Intel users on the other hand will have to upgrade their MOBO as a new socket count is introduced if I remember correctly.
Though, back to what I was saying. The Q9550 is not a rival for the PHII IMO as it only beats it out in a few benchmarks.
Your comment was marked as spam within only 10 minutes? My my!
Sigh, back to the name calling already.
Anywho, glad you are able to actually utilize multiple sources. The debate between which CPU is better though, if you've actually read the reviews in full, becomes moot after a certain point. AMD has the price point advantage because of lower cost MOBOs (anyone with 2seconds of time can find out that they can buy a i7920 for the same as a PHII 955).
It's kind of funny reading your conversation with StokaSR. You seem to be the only one that is consistently resorting to baseless name calling. You also seem to be getting quite `amped` so to say.
Just curious, you rely on Aandtech. Why not rely on multiple sources? Seems a smarter rout in my opinion. Also, taking overclock-ability into account is major. So far, the current AMD PHII *is* the best overclocking processor on the market.
Yeah, that is true. But the only reason Intel's flagships are $1000 is that they don't have such competition from AMD. But AMD could do the same. Instead of releasing BE's for under $100 they could just do as Intel does, release one little higher clocked CPU with an unlocked multi and put a $1000 price tag on it. Because PII 955 can be competitive to 975 just as to 920. But AMD wants to be cost effective.
Okay... This is going far enough. I am going to apologize to you because I am sick of this. But I still think you aren't right. Just one tip: it is smarter trusting sites that are unpopular and small, so they aren't financed by any company.
It is you who are actually fanboying all along, idiot. I have the CPU and I have not just seen a video, but you can't know that because your level of intelligence is so neandertallic that you immediately come to a conclusion that I saw a video and then became and AMD fanboy. Boy, are you a stupid bitch.
Now if people were thinking and testing more and not basing their opinion on some stupid sites, this world would be a much better place. What about this, for say? Go to modreactor. Search for one of their latest crossfire reviews.
Well if people weren't as stupid as you we wouldn't be having this conversation. I actually do not base my opinion on some fanboy or bribed sites, but on real life experience and facts. Fact is: Core2 is shit. Now, unlike you, I am not just an insulting lunatic and I will prove myself. And I won't apologize to freaks like you. First, Core2 has no L3 cache. Then, it has no integrated memory controller so PII is faster than it in apps.
Get your facts straight before you say something thats 100% wrong. AMD isn't actually losing money right now, and For the Price that AMD sells there chips, you get a cost equivalent intel chip and there's no comparison. AMD rules the Cost efficient market. There's no question about that. Just wait for the Phenom II X4 965 @3.4Ghz Stock. Throw in a pair of 4890's or 2 4870 X2's and they'll Dominate. Sure there not going to Dominate over the Highest $1000 Intel Chip but for Sub $300 They have it.
They will. Even $1000. You know what Intel does? Intel smartly places a $1000 CPU that is clocked 0.6GHz higher and has an unlocked multiplier over a CPU that costs $600 less. It is not much better.
I wouldn't badmouth Chrysler if they weren't saying an independent suspension is the wrong way to go and then a few years later come out with the exact same thing. You missed my argument.
A 920 is $60 more than a 955, runs hotter, and intel-based boards tend to have a higher pricetag.
AMD works for most of what I do. I also have some Intel chips, though most of them are Atoms. In what I do AMD is/was/will be a better deal. Loosen your jocks buddy.
i got this problem "amd processor unknown model" i know its a bios problem so how do i fix it,,,and i have ram 8GB but it shows 3.25GB only is this also bios problem plzz help
it's pretty simple. You give a man a camera and ask them to film what he does every day. If that means skateboard and overclock, great. And thanks to modern tech, it takes one creative editor to piece it together. All that to give one guy credit for being one of the best at what he does. And yes, people still buy AMD stuff including computers parts, graphics cards, processors, HD tuners, enterprise servers...if you prefer some of the other fluff our society creates, have at it.
i don't know that i7 is something i'd definitely buy were i content to eat ramen for a few months afterward. i mean c'mon on-die memory controllers that's so revolu-- wait, didn't AMD cook up a hair-brained scheme like that a few years back and Intel said it would never work?
should i get the Asus Silent Square Evo Paired with AS5 or the OCZ Vendetta 2 paired with OCZ Freeze Extreme for my Phenom II x3 720 on a Gigabyte MA770-UD3
I'm not sure, but i'm getting the OCZ Vendetta 2 soon. It's only $35 and it beats out ALL the lower ranged liquid cooling kits and beats out basically every other air CPU coolers. Look it up, see what you think. For that price it's a steal. I can already get this Phenom II X4 940 to 3.7 STABLE on the stock cooler, but it gets extremely hot. I want to get this baby to at LEAST 4, without making the chip's life extremely short.
Awesome, I have my Phenom II X4 940 @ 3.83GHZ, I can boot at 4.03ghz no problem, havent' tried any higher yet.. but can't seem to get it prime stable at 3.9ghz
glad to see AMD is gaining back some market share. I used to be a huge AMD fan, i had the FX60.
I sold this chip for $400 last month and bought an Intel E8500 OC to 4.22ghz with Artic freezer extreme; GTX 295, 4gb DDR2 1066mhz. Very nice gaming at 2560x1600 (except for Crysis)
3Dmark06 is absolutely NOT a gaming benching program. the number increases too much if you OC the CPU. Real gaming applications only take advantage of the GPU. CPU speeds are irrelevant.
pfft you obviously know nothing of bottleknecking. the cpu plays the biggest part in frames per second, downclock your processor to 2ghz and see what fps u get. a phenom x 4 and a 8500gt will outperform say a 2ghz celeron and quadfire 295 sli, that just how it works, u can have all the graphics u want if you cant proccess it there no point
yeah alot of it is about raw clock speed, but a good game iwith mulitple threads it will be used (gta 4). i was exagerating a little lol but u see my point, when the cpu is bottleknecking the performance? fx60 is a good chip anyway. you reach a certain point with dual cores where u need more cores
GTAiv is the only game that take advantage of multithreading. I heard it's good with 4 cores, not 8. But guess what, you will still need a powerful GPU to play it.
I would go with Intel right now. I might buy a Q9650 LGA 775for $320 and OC the hell out of it (4ghz). It would still beat the phenom 2 x4.
Q9650 stock will beat stock x4 955 3.2ghz
AMD is doing a good job but i needs to be superior for fan like me to switch back.
On the i7 side I see ~$300 CPU, ~$200 LGA 1366 Mobo, and ~$100 for 6GB of RAM.
On the Phenom 2 side, I see ~$200 CPU, ~$200 AM3 Mobo, and ~$100 for 4GB of RAM.
Sure, it's about 100 bucks cheaper, but the performance difference warrants just going with an i7 rig, or getting a similarly performing, and much cheaper, Core2 rig.
Yes sir, finally someone with some brains around here. To overclock Phenom IIs you still need to buy a top-end board while you can get a low-end X58 board and still do just fine.
Would you HONESTLY get that board? no thanks. Seriously, I would only get a mobo that has been praised like the ASUS P6T or the EVGA X58. and plus, I said 4 (FOUR) GB ram (DDR2) fyi. NYA
brand loyalty is for people who can't read reviews. The Foxconn FlamingBird has gotten quite a bit of praise if you cared to look.
As for the comment on RAM, I can read pretty damn well, I was remarking that I could get 6GB of ram for $60 just as easily as you could get 4GB, but that doesn't make either product a quality product.
you seem to really be an advocate for that board...where can I find some reviews for it? cuz the only one I found said that it could not do above 150 BCLK and that's a no-no IMO
It's ~$200 for a top of the line AM3 mobo, but ~$400 for a top of the line x48 mobo.
In reality you'll end up spending $200 to $300 more for an i7. If you're a gamer, the average performance advantage for gaming is about 5 frames per second. Why? Games are GRAPHICS dependent more so than CPU dependent. Save yourself the $300 and buy a better video card or go SLI or Crossfire.
Eh, I don't care much about gaming performance myself, especially since I don't care much for AA at 1920x1200 and greater (what's the point?). That i7 would decrease my render times significantly however, and increase my general productivity when working with various 2D and 3D editing software.
if u OC the core2 maybe. not similar at all i have both Amd 940 and a core2 and they do not run similar and if your calling a 10 fps gap similar then the phenom 2 is similar to a i7 965 extreme $1400 by the way . to a $250 955 price tag see any similarity?????

phenom 2 doesnt beat core i7 rofl
xGore220 2 years ago
Yeah but in realtion to the price of an i7 is AMD the best thing you can buy!
Maxbladee 2 years ago
Are you kidding?
On the i7 side I see ~$300 CPU, ~$200 LGA 1366 Mobo, and ~$100 for 6GB of RAM.
On the Phenom 2 side, I see ~$200 CPU, ~$200 AM3 Mobo, and ~$100 for 4GB of RAM.
Sure, it's about 100 bucks cheaper, but the performance difference warrants just going with an i7 rig, or getting a similarly performing, and much cheaper, Core2 rig.
tindytim 2 years ago
Yes sir, finally someone with some brains around here. To overclock Phenom IIs you still need to buy a top-end board while you can get a low-end X58 board and still do just fine.
doomtomb3 2 years ago
actually, for the i7 rig you see about ~$275 for a GOOD mobo, and for the Phenom II you see a ~$130 Mobo and ~$60 for 4 Gig RAM....
hsew 2 years ago
Maybe you haven't seen the Foxconn FlammingBlade Motherboard? That's ~$200. And I could get 6GB of DDR3 for ~$60, but that doesn't make it quality.
tindytim 2 years ago
Would you HONESTLY get that board? no thanks. Seriously, I would only get a mobo that has been praised like the ASUS P6T or the EVGA X58. and plus, I said 4 (FOUR) GB ram (DDR2) fyi. NYA
hsew 2 years ago
brand loyalty is for people who can't read reviews. The Foxconn FlamingBird has gotten quite a bit of praise if you cared to look.
As for the comment on RAM, I can read pretty damn well, I was remarking that I could get 6GB of ram for $60 just as easily as you could get 4GB, but that doesn't make either product a quality product.

I really don't think you can get 6GB of DDR3 for $60... but you CAN get QUALITY 4GB of DDR2 ram for $60.
I still wouldn't get that board though.
hsew 2 years ago
you seem to really be an advocate for that board...where can I find some reviews for it? cuz the only one I found said that it could not do above 150 BCLK and that's a no-no IMO
hsew 2 years ago
It's ~$200 for a top of the line AM3 mobo, but ~$400 for a top of the line x48 mobo.
In reality you'll end up spending $200 to $300 more for an i7. If you're a gamer, the average performance advantage for gaming is about 5 frames per second. Why? Games are GRAPHICS dependent more so than CPU dependent. Save yourself the $300 and buy a better video card or go SLI or Crossfire.
JTP709 2 years ago 2
Eh, I don't care much about gaming performance myself, especially since I don't care much for AA at 1920x1200 and greater (what's the point?). That i7 would decrease my render times significantly however, and increase my general productivity when working with various 2D and 3D editing software.

It's called X58 tard.

I forgot to mention, that doesn't change the fact that a Core2 rig will get you similar performance to that Phenom II for cheaper.
tindytim 2 years ago
if u OC the core2 maybe. not similar at all i have both Amd 940 and a core2 and they do not run similar and if your calling a 10 fps gap similar then the phenom 2 is similar to a i7 965 extreme $1400 by the way . to a $250 955 price tag see any similarity?????

The editing in this video was clearly inspired by the character Poochie on the Simpsons.
Scratchy: "Ooh, Poochie is one outrageous dude."
Itchy: "He's totally in my face!"
*Poochie rides off on a skateboard, playing an electric guitar and shouting "To the EXTREME!"
