My only real suggestion, if practical, is get a pair of stock wheels, and mount vicious snow-tires on them, and drive very carefully.

Or do as I did; acquire an early 00's, gas-sucking 4x4 SUV, that sell dirt cheap, for winter driving. (Jeep Cherokees and Ford Explorers, in great shape, can be had for under $3000.)

If it makes you feel any better, Ferraris and Lamborghinis suck in the snow too, so at least you're in good company.

  • @skeilak 1/2 My tires arent very wide. its a v8 4.6l, which means even if i barely press on the gas the wheels just spin like no tomorrow. its pretty annoying sometimes. Good thing my mom has a ford explorer sprt trac, same as an explorer just converted into a truck. a got stuck in my tbird reversing out of my driveway to go to school -.-

My dad was the previous owner of this car, and he said yeaa he went go pass some guy when it was raining and he hammed on the gas, and the car

  • @SDiablo123 Just went sideways sandbags dont help at all either.Might as well just fill the whole trunk, which is surprisingly big for a sports car. haha

Would cost soo much money tho :/

  • @SDiablo123

I see you know what I meant. I have the Trac-Loc rear, so I get both wheels spinning, and the car slides to the left. Still, I love the car. It just takes a bit more skill to drive, than a 4cyl. Camry.

Before it snows, I suggest you park facing outwards. Birds do better going forward through snow, than reversing. Also, switch off the O/D, in rain or snow, to get a little transmission braking. Just remember how much horsepower you're controlling, and mind that gas petal.

  • @skeilak Its kinda hard for me to park facing outward, that would mean i have to reverse to park, which i suck at being a New driver. Im not used to so much horsepower, my moms truck is gutless. v6 explorer engine in a bigger truck type thing, haha. and also, where i live were supposed to be getting "record breaking amounts of snow" in this area alone. So im pretty sure ill be keeping the bird parked most of the time, once it does start snowing. Also, what does O/D do?

  • @SDiablo123 I know where the button is, i just wasnt too sure what it does :p

  • @SDiablo123

O/D (Over Drive) is your highest gear ratio, allowing lower engine RPM's at sustained high speeds. (Like 5th gear on a manual trans.)

The best way to find out what the O/D lock-out does, is switch it off, and drive around for a while. Note the difference on your tachometer at the same speeds.

But basically, it prevents your transmission from using third gear, restricting the car to the lower gear ratios, thus increasing torque to the rear wheels.

  • @skeilak ahhh ok. ill turn it off next time i drive. thanks man!

  • Maybe it's just the camera's ability to record, but that's a seriously weird sounding engine, at idle.

  • @skeilak I have the same car, same year, and it sounds nothing like this, could just be the camera sound. but mines nothing like that. ahha

  • @SDiablo123

Yes, it's just that strange "bloopie" sound at idle. Sounds nice once he revs it up. though.

I'm betting his exhaust rig might be magnifying the sound of the "gas balls" when idling, and the camera's mic just doesn't deal with it well.

I have a '96, with a tweaked '99 Mustang GT 4.8, with a full cat-back, and it sounds nothing like that either.

The 90's T-Birds and Cougars are such underrated cars. Shame on Ford, for letting those names die.

  • @skeilak Yea i agree :/ I RARELY see Tbirds on the roads :/

If u can reply back with any suggestions on wieght solutions. mine weighs about 1600kg's, which is VERY light for driving on icy roads, and snow which is all there is here. Canada eh? haha.

  • @SDiablo123

Here in the US, lots of 90's T-Birds and Cougars were sent to the scrap yards by that "Cash for Clunkers" program. It's much harder to find parts now.

Sorry, but your Bird, like mine, is a death-trap in snow. Its even weight distribution, powerful engine, high-torque rear end, and (probably) wide tires, all combine for fish-tailing nightmares. (Mine even hates wet roads!) I found 200lbs. of sandbags in the trunk, didn't help much.

  • What block is this 2 or 4V?

  • sounds dirty. and +1 to checking out the TCCoA

    - '95Cougar_XR-7 from TCCoA

  • Nice setup. I have a 97 lx and im putting in some stage 2 cams, full exhaust, jmod, PI intake and some other stuff. Im sticking to NPI heads so i can stuff a bigger cam in without bending a valve. Anyways nice setup. What does it run 1/4 mile?

  • hey somebody help i have a 95 lx v8 and i need ideas i want more power without feelig like im paying for a new engine, i thought about cams headers and a chip.....i need moreinput from othr owners tho

  • go on tccoa. theres invaluable info on there. but they will all tell you first mods should be: Jmod (shift kit), higher stall, 3.73 gear, and a tune. it will be a whole new car. and 1/4mi will drop a shit load.

good luck and check out tccoa

  • @lilmel2002 I tell ya what, i got a 94 lx v8, get urself a supercharger for it, thats where power is man.

  • did you do the swap yourself or pay somebody?

  • How much for the PI heads?

  • are stock mustang gt part classified as PI? because theres a guy on ebay sellin Mustang Cams,Heads, and valve covers and says theyre PI but they look stock to me

  • 99-04 Mustang GT parts are PI.

  • i got pi swap issues ptv i got comp 262 the guy at the shop says some pi heads have larger valves then i hear hes full of crap

  • seriously what exhaust is that I have 97 t-bird with true duals 2.5 inch pipe all the way back with a h-pipe and 1 chamber flowmasters no cats at all, its too high pitched and your tone was actually the tone I was looking for any way thanks man and I am sloth92 on tccoa

  • PI stands for Performanced Inhansed.. its factory polished heads that were on alotta mustangs and mark VIIIs

  • LOL! How fucking stupid are you? ENHANCED not Inhansed. Go back to school.

  • i just got my t-bird today and ive seen a ton of owners talkin about PI parts and motors...what exacly is that? by that do they mean police interceptor??

  • what kind of exhaust do u have? it almost sounds like mine

  • You weren't the first, trust me. There were many good men tearing skin off their knuckles far before 02. 75rwhp? maybe 30... maybe. To the wheels thanks to IRS/4R70W.

  • yeah its definatly not 75 but way more than 30

More along the lines of 250 rwhp total assuming you have performance tune of a 99+ mustang you have to factor in that extra compression point.

  • Cool car.. I did a PI head swap on my dad's 96 'bird in 2002.. I think that we where the first to do it on a t-bird.. I saw an artical in SuperFord mag about doing it on a stang & thought why not try it on the bird.. It only cost about $1000 for everything that we needed.. It was way easier than doing the whole engine swap.. Glad to see that it runs!! My dad's car gained 75 rwhp & went 1.1 sec and 7 mph faster in the 1/4 mile..

  • I've read the 4.6 birds are good for at least 145-150mph! But yea stock limiter is @ 105. I cry every time :( Guess 4 a grand i could git rid of the limiter and get the light weight drive shaft

  • it that thing underwater

  • Power Improved. 99 Mustangs had the new PI 4.6 in them, but they are based on the same motor platform as the old 4.6. So a few parts here and there and the upgrade is complete. A tune helps out also.

  • that helped me out...i was wonder wtf pi ment...my buddys mom(yeah i know i know) has a 94 t-bird...200,000 miles and still chirps 2nd gear....damn speed limiter...105 isnt fast enough...lol...and she says it has no power....no power my ass

  • I have a 97 T-Bird with a 4.6 and I had a EEC Tuner at one time. I took the limiter off and did a few slight program tuning adjustments, but for the most part the car is stock. With the limiter removed, I went past 120 mph no problem, at 120 the car sunk to the ground. By calculating the RPM which it was around 5600, we calculated it to be doing 142 mph on a stock T-Bird. That was calculate with all the correct gearing and tire sizes and what not. Not to bad for an ole T-Bird.

  • sweet!!!!! :)

  • Watch that. that speed limiter was there to prevent you from flexing your drive shaft what gear ratio are running if it is a 3.27 you better stop take that bird to that speed limit it will flex and break. Supercoupeperformnce has a drive shaft for about 400 bucks that makes that noise go away if you already flexed it.

  • we are either gonna get her to get rid of the car(i dont see that) or we are gonna jerk the motor and tranny out and find some other motor and tranny

  • r u shure the stock engine has an egr system and gets awseome gas milage. A brand new stock engine os less than 2k too i think at mn 12 preformance.

  • yeah its pretty sweet, but if you change out the cams to some comp xe262ah or higher and it wont fall flat at that rpm but of course you will need some pi heads too. I love the mn12 platform, also try going over 150 on the interstate in a supercoupe man that was fun.

  • what the hell is PI?

  • Sounds nice but the video and audio quality are pretty poor.

  • I'll stick with the iron block though..

  • P51 or is it a P71 intake has dual throttle bodys

  • Heeeyyyy you stole my car, ^_^ Anyways I would like to see dual throttle body intakes with it, but going to have to get a custom intake. great sound. I'm trying to get me one to get 550HP out of it.
