  • What kind of tutorial is this? Not all of us know what to use to make a XML file. What's with skipping. WE NEED IT DETAIL, THAT IS THE WHOLE POINT. I, for instance never created a XML file nor anything remotely close to this tutorial so why would you shorten (read butcher) this?! Very annoying.

  • @rucka12 Read the description, the link to the full video is right there. Ignorant -_-

  • @ILSDEMON Yes, thank you, but that link doesn't work on Safari nor G.Chrome.

  • @rucka12 Im using chrome and watching right now. Do you need the plug-in?

  • @rucka12 No thanx. I installed Firefox and it works. Thanks for tute, it's great.

  • No no....what if the person wants to go back to the prev pic?

  • Oh geez... still "Missing"...!.....

  • This sucks its constantly skiping crutial infomation and the "Full Video" link in th description is stupid the video dosent work

  • Missing Plug-in... }:(

  • Not sure how this came out. need advise please.

Scene 1, Layer 'AS', Frame 1, Line 15 1120: Access of undefined property master_mc.

Scene 1, Layer 'AS', Frame 1, Line 14 1120: Access of undefined property master_mc.

Scene 1, Layer 'AS', Frame 1, Line 33 1120: Access of undefined property master_mc.

  • @qnz123 create a empty movieclip, put it on the stage and name it 'master_mc'

  • @qnz123 create an empty movieclip on the stage. give it the instance name 'master_mc'

    now it should work

  • Thx alot for the great tutorial . I want to know how to put a previous button in this xml gallery?

  • I am doing my masters in Instructional Technology at Bloomsburg University. I am currently taking advanced flash for mobile devices. You have NO idea how much of a help you have been. Most of the areas we cover, you have a tutorial for. You are the reason why I have an A in this class. I have to say that your teaching skills are great. You are very smooth and are exciting to listen to. Keep up the good work!!!

not be same as xml does "rawImage=xml.image[imgNum].imgURL;" check this line specially

  • Hello tutvid. I have a problem trying to make work this video out. However, for some reason I always get this message when I try to test the movie:

"Error #2044: Unhandled IOErrorEvent:. text=Error #2035: URL Not Found. "

I have my images, the flash document, and the XML file all in the same folder. So I don't know what's going on with this. I compared my code (looking for misspelling) and it's exactly the same as yours. Can you help me out?

    Thank you in advance.

    BTW: I'm using CS3.

  • Great video. Beautiful.

  • guys i get this error when trying to compile:

  • Great tutorial and great accent! :)

  • great job :) and great accent. Where're you from?

  • I was wondering if the same concept can be applied to create a thumbnail/article preview bar in a wordpress blog.? Has anyone tried it to add article description in XML?

  • Nice video, I'm just wondering if I can use the same XML concept of this to make a flash-based articles thumbnail preview for a Wordpress 2.9.2?

  • How would you add a Next/Prev button or a scroll bar in a gallery like this

  • Hey how would go about adding Next/Pre buttons to a photo gallery like this. I looked at the way you did it in AS 2.0 and it looks like it wouldn't work.

    thanks

  • your are missing all stages from tutorial, no body can understand

  • @imbpk maybe you should learn some english first lol!

  • lol the finger that didnt sound so right ^^

  • i have a glitch with the swf it flashes between images before it loads the next image and doesn't respond to click very good. anyone else with this problem

  • Hey guys. I guess that the image im having is a little too big. I tried the simulated download thing, the same problem happens. My images are only about 200 KB. How come it's so slow because anyway, if we can't see the pictures then what's the point of making the whole thing. Can someone knows about this help me a hand

  • Hey guys. A problem comes out in my gallery.

It is 100% OK in Flash CS4, but when i drag the SWF file to Dreamweaver, nothing comes out. Only the dark grey background is there. i dun get it?

  • This is really great, however I would love to see how to make a more elegant transition. Maybe a fade out of some sort!

And of course a next / prev button arrangement. Otherwise it's great!

  • Hi...I love this clean slideshow and thank you for the tutorial...What I'd love to see with it would be some previous/next navigation buttons because I don't think the clicking navigation is apparent to my audience (on my site) without a disclosure. Is there a tutorial you could point me to or an additional tutorial you could post? Thanks!

  • you the main man!_cheers

  • I'm not that familiar with AS, but is there a simple way to create a timer in AS that shows the photos in sequence with pauses of a couple of seconds?

  • would you put that into a flash website?

  • Your tutorial has these gaps or stuff you don't say probably you want us to buy the "full version" from somewhere... I hate "trial" versions"..If you do a tutorial and post for free..just do it...Otherwise, you're good!

  • @xavianus Are you blind? in the description it says "watch the full video" then a link to his website...

  • i got everything working. My question is... how can i display the image title which you specified in the xml file? the tutorial is so good. it's so simple and cool. i like when it goes back to the first image when clicking the last image. 100 stars!!!

  • Well, basically you can specify another attribute (title="blah") in the XML file, then access that in flash to display it in a text box.

  • I'm getting a:

1120: Access of undefined property imageLoader.

    this is happening at the line 14, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 40, and 43.

The code is identical. Not sure why this is happening. I don't get an error until I do a CTRL ENTER.

  • Comment removed

  • Maybe a new tutorial on adding thumbnails would be fun!!

  • this is waht happened to me anyone know how to solve this. thanks

1120: Access of undefined property imageLoader.

this is happening at the line 14,15,16

    if anyone can help thanks

  • i get that too! on line 2? god...

  • sorry post to fast, try this:

    function xmlLoadedF(event:Event):void{

  • Mine has a problem. on line 7.function xmlLoadedF)(event:Event):void{

Mine says when I test it... Expecting left parentheses before right. What do I do?

  • function (xmlLoadedF)(event:Event):void{

  • Thanks Tutvid, quick question, got my gallery working perfect, thanks again, but how to i export it to dreamweaver? when i add it as a swf file, dreamweaver says:

    Error #2044: Unhandled ioError:. text=Error #2032: Stream Error. URL: imageData.xml atPrintxml_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()

  • 9:05

"We want it to give our users the finger... the index finger that is.."

    Hahaha :D

  • very nice video tutorial your tutorials are great

  • i wish fireworks have the same interface as CS4. but ever since adobe bought it, the improvement is very slow, they wanted it down for CS to gain the stage :(

  • Very nice clear video how did you do it?

  • He followed a tutorial about making tutorials :)

  • I am talking about just picture flash....I might have misunderstood if he said a drop down menu....

I still it is a little too complicated...I have CS4 and the Adobe collection and think that most of its software is a bit too complicated for the everyday user... more pro oriented

  • "a bit too complicated for the everyday user... more pro oriented"

The price didn't give that away?

  • I got it for free so....no....I use it for my own web design, a family one, touch up and rework old pictures, I do use flash but very little....

I think that for the price it should be easier for the user...

  • It definitely takes time to do it. I have a teacher that wants to teach her students Photoshop and a few other web tools, but there is a small prob, she doesn't know how to use it...

She is going to base a whole class around it, shame.

  • flash is awesome

  • It would be, but

    1) You can use this to build even more powerful, interactive designs.

    2) If you're already semi-proficent, you can expand on this itself.

    Trust me, its good stuff.

  • you cant make a dropdown menu with powerpoint

  • Why do all these designers sound like total fags? Its only perpetuating the stereotype that fags are creative

  • how do you add captions? i know he said he'd do a tut in the futue but i wanna know now! *jumps up and down clenching fists and whining*

  • at the beginnign says photoshop lol

  • Hahah

  • For those who don't understand why the video skips certain parts, is because Youtube couldn't handle the time frame. If you check out other tutorials, they've been cut down to 12 minutes. Check out his site for the full tutorial

  • whoa..1 page of code for just this...

    Gotta hate actionscript.

  • This looks interesting, but you skip al the important part of the coding and explaining what's going, I do not like this tutorial at all.

  • go to his website, Flash section, and should be near the top as it is a new tut. thats where the full tutorial will be. this is just a teaser so if it isn't want you want, you dont waste your time watching the whole movie.

  • id rather use Jalbum

  • flash is way more powerful in the end

  • Wheres the XML file

  • why don't you make your files available for free or at least show the code in the vid?

  • I wish I had CS4 :P

  • just crack it i have all cs4 software free

  • same :D

  • Awesome

  • it isn't up on the site yet :(

  • Why do you skip all the important parts?

  • Cool

  • awesome! :D Will watch when im not half asleep

    love your tutorials<3

  • Cool dude =D 5/5
