i bet it was fun making this...but it is the most useless contraption ever. it converters oscillating horizontal movement to rotational movement perpendicular to the horizontal line at a fantastically inefficient way.

An idea to keep it moving by itself. Try to use a minimal sideways displacement and use the speed of the 90° rotation and the massinertia to displace the axis. I think this is possible with a curve with a straight and a 90° corner on the inside of the pipe.
The corner of 90° in the curve has to have a radius as big as the displacement. Than it can use all the speed generated in the straight of the curve by the magnet to force the axis sideways in the 90° corner.
This was really just a simple experiment based on some of Steorns earliest clues on how the device works although now that we know more I'm almost certain this is not how it works.
It is not difficult to push it back and forth but this is a distinct force that needs to be overcome. I am unsure how the input force compares to the output force because it is very difficult to unbiasedly estimate magnetic forces by hand.
Some can imagine that if you build this with good materials that a lots of small back and forward movements will give a fast rotation with a high a torq as the magnets will allow... I think.
I just can't help noticing... that this device isn't propelling itself, independent of any external investment of energy. Yep. Just can't help noticing it.

Gaby, moving the stator magnets together doesn't help, in fact if they are too close together then the rotor will not turn on its own.

try using a worm gear such as the ones you find in baitcasting reels which will move the axis sideways back and forth as it rotates.
