  • The Berlin Wall, the division of Germany was because of German Nazism, the USSR and truthfully the other allies wanted to punish Germany and they did. Germans should pay attention, why do you think the West DID NOTHING when the Wall was built? Next time Germans engage in war, they may get nuked.

  • i killed a commie and a nazi

  • I WAS THERE IN 1979 IN THE FRENCH SECTOR AT BRENAUER STRASSE. I MADE PHOTOS OF THE SOLDIERS IN WATCHTOWER THERE. THE OUTER FACADE OF THE APARTMENTS THAT ESCAPES WERE MADE FROM IN THE 1960S WERE STILL THERE.

  • I WAS THERE IN 1979 IN THE FRENCH SECTOR AT BRENAUER STRASSE. I MADE PHOTOS OF THE SOLDIERS IN WATCHTOWER THERE.

Danke.

  • long live a free germany

  • is that scene at 4:00 really berlin? it looks like dresden to me o_O

  • this is not the real wall

  • @NSBniederlande why not?

  • My Father was born and raised in Berlin. He was in the DDR Navy when they pulled him from his ship for guard duty along the wall .. him and a friend threw their rifles in the bushes and took off for the west. He settled in Bavaria. All my life I grew up hearing stories of the wall. How the Russians would get him, put him up against the Wall and execute him

  • My Mother and I travelled to E. Berlin once to visit his relatives. I was real little and don't remember much, but have 2 pictures of my trip. After my parents divorced, I moved to America with my Mom, but I would like to go back to Germany and take my Father to Berlin and let him show me places of his youth

  • I am sure the DDR had its upsides, but none of us can imagine what it is like to not be able to go anywhere. How would you like it if someone built a wall through London, severing you from family and friends, forbidding you to go even near it. I also believe many of the people that actually tried to run the Todesstreifen were younger people. People with families were more likely to dig tunnels or find some other way to get their family with them. I doubt they would really leave them behind.

  • Communism, Never again. National Socialism (Nazism) Never again.

  • Dude did they say "Hoging Cock" 3:14 ? LMAO In any case I'm happy this stupid wall was torn down!!!!

  • not really. it was Hagen Koch.

  • communism didn't exist in the GDR. they called it that and it was a kind of "secret" way of having a dictatorship...

communism is a nice idea, but it can't really work...

  • US crimes in Vietnam, Nicaragua, Chile, Iraq, Afganisthan and the Nazi's paid by CIA.

Study and inform yourself instead of writing the same slogans.

  • From DW internet site:

American military government does not set itself the task of rebuilding the German economy. It would only prevent the occurrence of : "hunger, disease and disorder which may pose a threat to the U.S. armed forces"

As a result of this policy, the standard of living in the Western occupation zones of continuously declining. Supplying the population has been established here is worse than in the Soviet zone, especially in the winter of 1946-47.

  • One sided capitalist propaganda!

  • Forget these terms, they were only invented to limit our thinking (false left-right paradigm, psycholinguistics). There's only ONE (french: UN) internationalist oligarchy elite in control, as in the distant past, at that time or now.

  • Television is anywhere and in more than 90 % propaganda, the most effective propaganda today is embedded in fiction/entertainment.

  • we did not have a any border fortifications dividing Czech and Slovaks...just border control, but it was really relax ...

  • The map of Germany 3:55 is wrong!

This are the Border Lines of 1949!!!

  • Long live capitalism! Color TV, VHS and Commodore 64's for everyone! What did the Ossies had?! Shit!

  • dont you have Blu-ray HD-tv and PS3-120GB-Slim there in denmark cuz thats shit!

  • Probably you should go to the Kosovo discussion group. We are not interested in that topic here. I think Kosovo should be given back to Servia.

  • What do you mean "We"?

  • The obvious!

  • scheiss kommunisten !! !!! !!! !!!!

  • Das waren Sozialisten. Den Kommunismus gibt es nur theoretisch.

  • Ist doch letztlich ohnehin dasselbe, was sollen all diese Bezeichnungen?

  • tis is the most vilolence video :(

  • Free Tibet!!!

Demokratische Sozlalisten?

  • Schaut euch Star Trek an.

Wer was anderes sagt, erzählt Humbug.

  • Everyone, ignore Dudtz. His ignorant views are not worth waisting anyone's time on.

  • Did you go to an indoctrination camp to believe that the DDR was a happenin' place? Or are you color blind? Everything there was grey. I ate at one of the state run restaurants. Average at best. I was just their last year and had a drink at a Bier Stubbe and even the bar tender, owner says it's better now. And if it's so god damn great, why did they have to put up a wall? Why did people try to escape?

    This ought to be good...

  • See, this is pissing me off. Everybody is saying "oh the DDR was a happy happy joy joy place"

My father lived there before the wall came down. Spent his childhood in a CAR with malnutrition and no money. The Vopos/Stasi monitored everything 24/7, and you couldn't do anything.

I'm suprised you ate at a resturaunt, prolly outlook purposes.

My dad joined the Military just to keep alive.

My dad doesn't want me equating it to North Korea, but shit... it was BAD.

  • Yeah, Dudtz, look how all the people are just dying to stay in the wonderful DDR.

  • The people in this video don't look displeased:

    watch?v=0gyfay62Nks

  • personally I find you very uneducated and am very offended that you think this was a nice place

it absolutely was not, your link says nothing

I am proud to be East German! I am very happy that I come from East Germany! But what went down for my father is something to never be happy about.

It was horrid, run down buildings, malnutrition, stasi/vopos, people starving

it was bad, dude, you need to get that through your mind, it was REALLY bad

  • If the government was so bad?

Then why fucking public restaurants,a dance club, and a bowling alley in the Palace of The Republic?

Can you find those nice things in the Reichstag or the EU Parliament building that looks like The Tower of Babylon?

  • Image. They have those all in North Korea, too buddy.

You are so uneducated it's killing me.

The waiters at the public resturaunts didn't have to serve you, they could just sit and look at you, the dance club was a shit excuse for recreation for outsiders, the bowling alley was also shit and they also didn't have to serve you for a long time.

Please just educate yourself, that's all I ask, what your saying is quite offensive.

  • Odd thing is,is that I have a picture of common People arround the Palace of The Republic,chit-chatting,of various ages,no police chasing them off,and what looks to be public parking infront.

  • Yea you find that in North Korea too.

Don't let what is a first impression FOOL you, or you become the fool yourself.

You need to find out how the everday person lived, and you'll find that it is more horrid than you think.

Why are you debating this? Do you like oppression?

  • No,in North Korea,it is pretty much empty in the Captial.

  • but there are people eating in public resturaunts and chit chatting and "having fun"

watch "inside north korea" and you will find out the capital has quite a lot of people in it actually, looking like they live normal lives

  • Are all of these people acting in this video: watch?v=iV2A1_EhsxY ?

Care to tell me about bad things in the FRG and EU?

  • it's a malformed video id

Either way, you're still missing the point. Watch the documentary "Inside North Korea" and you will find out that there was a dutch documentary on North Korea that showed such greatness.

It makes you want to move to North Korea...

but look at reality, is it really that way?

Why are you debating this, seriously, you have no idea whatsoever.

  • I'm anti-Juche.

    watch?v=iV2A1_EhsxY

  • Juche? I do not understand this word.

Btw, Propaganda out the wazoo. Like I said, Dutch documentary on N.Korea; makes it look like heaven.

Why did they build that wall? Why did people DIE to get over?

They wanted out, and you disrespect that. I'm sure you don't even believe in the Holocaust too.

  • Juche is the Kim Il sung-Kim Jung Il ideology.

You do know, the USSR did not have to give up Western Berlin?

I know the Holocuast happened, but who and how much,I think the Nuremburg trials said 5 million people, where did this "six million Jews" come from, why not something more exact, and why only Jew,weren't there Gypsies and Christian Poles?

Anyways do you know of any bad stuff in the EU?

  • The USSR had to if they wanted to evade war.

it was 6 million jews and 4 million others, they have names and matches, I believe it was more than 6 million jews, they just identified 6 million

Why do you ask about the EU? There is no point to this.

My question is still: Why do you debate the DDR being a horrible country when you know nothing about it?

  • You care to tell me about the law in the UK where you can not photograph law enforcemnt people?

The Free Speech ban outside parliament?

  • Why the fuck do I need to know this, and you still do not answer my question.

    What are you proving?

  • Maybe you are a hypocrite?

    Why?

Not being able to film police officers is good?

Not being able to protest parliament is good?

What are your feelings about the Isreali government?

  • Hypocrite? I see not how.

Filming officers is a violation of privacy, I think this is good.

Not being able to protest parliment is quite bad, but there is no high demand for it, they're not revolting.

I am 100% Against the Israeli government, they do to Palestinians what E.Germany did to my people.

What more to throw at me, Communist Oppressor?

  • Communism is not about oppressing, though "communists",such as Karl Marx, opposed religion.

Communsim is really about putting society in the power of the people, with freedom and order, though there have been people who abused the system.

    Violation of privacy?

    In public places,publically paid people?

Didn't people storm into the British parliament building some time back?

  • Too bad Karl Marx's communism that was upheld in the USSR/E.Germany wasn't real Communism.

It was Oppressive, so don't give me that bullshit.

Yes it is violation of privacy, people's identities may be hidden, and police officers are big targets, so it shouldn't be allowed anyway.

Some time back, but not now, so what's your point.

    You are EXTREMELY naive

  • Do you like the EU government?

  • No I don't, but that has NOTHING to do with anything.

I'm not a Communist nor a Capitalist, I call myself a "Unionist" which is what I believe is TRUE Communism, which includes God.

E.Germany was horrible, and you denying just shows how dumb, how stupid, and how idiotic some people can be.

Take it from someone who has a primary source.

  • Yes,but do you care to talk about the EU government?

Yeah sure the GDR wasn't the gratess government, the SFRY durring Tito's presidnecy was better, but what Germany was/is better than the GDR?

  • Whenever it comes up I talk about it.

The DDR was a HORRID government, and YES OF COURSE IT IS A LOT BETTER, ARE YOU STUPID?

You don't get it! You get fed the lies your Commie friends tell you that it was all happy dandy

you're being an idiot, and you know it

it was almost as bad as N.Korea, and you don't seem to get that

  • Do you not find the EU oppressive, taking away autonomy and such.

  • No because I am living life happily with my God in freedom, thanks to my brothers and sisters who fought for it. I don't care about economics, policies, or any of that, just my right to freedom and life.

I have both, so I don't think the EU is oppressive. I'm very happy with my life.

  • You were bitching to me about politics for more than an hour, and you don't care?

    Isn''t the EU an oligarchy?

Oppressive corporate elitists running the show?

  • It isn't politics, it's basic human rights that you don't recognized were put against my people, being so uneducated, and you still think it was fine and dandy, which offends me extremely.

You obviously hate people being oppressed as long as the government is Communist. That's sickening, and so that's why I fight. It's not politics, it's life and freedom.

Who gives a shit for the EU, who cares? They're not restricting me of my freedom/life.

    So I don't care.

  • So you buy into EU propaganda, and Igorance Is Bliss?

It seems to me that the GDR was, atleast a start to a free German government, the only other one that came close was Weimar, and you know what happened with that.

Is a country not Cottage Industry or Communist free?

  • the DDR wasn't close to freedom, and you're an idiot for thinking it was

I guess I do buy into the propaganda, big deal.

I'm still free and I am living, so I don't care.

  • So the FRG is good, because criticises the GDR for having the Berlin Wall, but does nothing about Israel and the and North Korea?

  • it does criticize N.Korea, western world, and I don't know why not Israel, ask them not me.

GDR was horrible, get that through your mind, it was a big concentration camp.

  • Well, when are they going to overthrow the Juche reigime?

Why should I believe the EU is so good?

  • When their chinese buddies drop the nukes

I'm not asking you to believe it, lol, it's just better than the Communist GDR by FAR because we get freedom and life.

We get many benefits, we can do what we want, it's beautiful.

You must really hate your life to think this sucks.

  • What about the exploitation by corporae oligarch elitists?

Anyhow,Karl Marx said something like this: "Philosophers have tried to explain the World, the important hing is to change it."

Insted of whining about North Korea,do something.

  • Anyhow, the Berlin Wall was probalby originally intended to keep bad people out.

Keeping people in is not a good idea, but I do not trust the FRG,why should I believe they are better?

It may look like open border with the EU "countries",but is it really an act of taking away autonomy?

  • The FRG was a hell of a lot better.

The wall was built to keep East Germans from going to the West because THE EAST SUCKED.

The East was a HORRIBLE COUNTRY, THE GOVERNMENT WAS OPPRESSIVE, THERE WAS NO FOOD, THERE WAS NO NUTRITION, etc.

"to keep bad people out' BULLSHIT

Why didn't the Soviets? Czechoslovakians? Don't remember a wall around cuba!

    please

  • Yeah, the Soviets had Border Troops for shits and giggles, right?

Anyhow, suppose certain GDR leaders were being like over protective parents, such as not lettting people cross the street so to say,not saying this is good, but they prbably thought, just because people do wrong things, does not mean they intend to be things like sadistic and evil.

  • Mensch Genosse, geh' doch einfach sterben.

    Grüße aus Karl-Marx-Stadt,

    HERM

  • ???

  • If you dont even speak the language, I suppose you should just stop arguing over things you have no idea about.

  • Comment removed

  • Here we go!

Another jerkoff who expects everyone to know his/her language perfectly.

    Como estas?

    Kak dela?

  • Wie gesagt: Geh sterben.

I dont care whether you speak german (or spanish or russian) or not. But I do care about people talking rubbish about a system i have lived in.

  • What I am trying to say is that so many people seem to focus on the bad of the DDR,and not the good.

Why not talk about the border fortifications that were up in Czechoslovakia splitting the Czech and SlovakRepublics?

Why not talk about the fortifications separtaitng Kosovo from the rest of Serbia?

    Wish death upon me,huh?

Who are you to say anything?

  • The people who grew there look the DDR with some nostalgia...because they identify things they looked at when they were children or teenagers. But politically, that system was oppresion.

My friends of DDR and Poland told me that some people, seeing the conditions, become more united with their family and friends. I admite german hearts, they were able to tear down the wall and join with their families!!! Viele Grüsse!!!

  • Obviously, the only answer is or are International Rugby tournaments! We must play each other in the greatest game on the planet earth.

  • This is a very good documentary. It'll be 20 years in November since the horrid wall came down. Overall, East Germany was an absurdity. The fact that the Communists had to build a wall says enough. Let this be a cautionary tale of what happens when tyranny takes over. Good riddance to that wall.

  • This video should be titled "Rush Into Fascism and Deception."

Dieses Video sollte dem Titel "Rush Into Faschismus und Täuschung."

  • I haven't seen it. However, I approve of it. Honecker, Ulbricth, and Wolfe should have been hanged.

    SLOWLY.

  • Why Honecker?

    Who is Wolfe?

Ulbricht was a Stalinist politicican,I dislike Stalinist politics.

  • Yeah, it was such a wonderful and glorious place. Idiot!

  • Is it any better now?

In the land of the GDR,things are not so prosperous now.

  • Yes. I've been there. Even in an economice downturn, anything is better than the the wall, the DDR. Prosperity isn't the only thing. It was a prison,

  • Were you there under GDR rule?

  • My family was and I've been their twice. You know what's nice about the new Berlin? There is color, life their now. Not dismal, greyness.

  • Dismal?

The Palace of The Republic had public restaurants,a bowling alley, and a dance club.

Can you say that about the Reichstag?

  • yes i would i would want to be as involved in socialism as i could

  • I agree even if this was the only clip i saw i would still think the East was better, if i lived in the west i would be trying to enter the East in every way i could

  • Trust me, you wouldn´t.

  • after Berlin wall German chancellor Angela merkel is supporting Russia and its president/prime minister putin who served in Germany as KGB spy todays Germany supports Russian red army and its actions Germany does not support Georgia country witch is most resent victim of red Russian army Germany voted against Georgians bid to join NATO witch is only way Georgia can survive Russian red army attacks ! WAKE UP GERMANS before Russian red army comes back to Germany Georgia needs your help toady !

  • It's interesting to see, how non-germans arguing about that theme....

    Greetings form Berlin

  • Remember there were many non-Germans who protected the West Berliners from the Russians. The Berlin airlift comes to mind.

  • Thousands of people risked death to escape communist germany and there are still idiots and morons such as "the extremist" who claim that a capitalist society is equal to a communist society. The fact that a wall had to be built at all is something he just can't deal with. No matter how many museums he visits he still can't argue with the fact of the walls existence nor with the thousands who escaped and the many thousands more who wanted to. Communism is pure evil, capitalism is freedom .

  • Interesting documentary. I've been to Berlin and seen Hohenschönhausen (Stasi High Security Prison), Checkpoint Charlie, HelmstedtMarienborn Checkpoint, Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp and several other Nazi/East German places of interest. I'd concur that neither Capitalism or Communism are worse than each other as ideologies, but that the regimes/leaders that carry them out determine their moral position (unlike Nazism which epitomised the position of Hitler and those wanting to please him)

  • What a bunch of ignorant fools claiming capitalism is worse than communism. How many Germans risked their lives to "escape" to East Berlin? How many Americans risk their lives on inner tubes to float to the "socialist paradise" of Cuba? USA is not perfect, but it is a damn sight better than living without liberty. In fact, capitalism is responsible for lifting more people out of poverty than any other economic system in the world--EVER.

  • But really both are not the BEST solution. Democracy is better. If you're poor in a capitalist country, you're sent straight to a dust bin. Capitalism is all about money. While If you're super smart in a communist country then you just earn as much as an acoholic garbage collector.

    Democracy is equal.

  • Thank you very much for posting this document!

  • And what about freedom and death penalty in the USA ?

  • More people were shot in the mass shootings in USA schools in the past decade than were shot crossing the Berlin Wall in all times.

    That is a real tragedy.

  • scotcom you are an ignorent fool!! you dont know what youre talking about so say nothing at all!! first learn history then make comments. thats the real tragedy that many people know nothing and talk to mutch!

  • this is typical US cold war propaganda film. Exaggerating the portrayal of the GDR as a place of unending misery whilst ignoring the millions suffering all over the world under capitalism, the worst kind of dictatorship

  • I suggest you relocate to one of the following nations, then make vids for us:

    North Korea

    Cuba

    Zimbabwe

  • I don't think living in DDR was as difficult as living in this countries today. You can't comparate this with DDR.

  • well - in gdr you didn´t live free - you wered lived by otheres ...- so you are right - it was easy - dictationship is allways easy ....

  • sory don't understand...

  • thats what he means....

  • I don't know why they only talk about the Berlin Wall. In fact the wall was along the WHOLE border to West Germany AND West Berlin.

  • Well there was a fenced border between East and West Germany not a wall. The wall was in Berlin. I lived very near the East German border, about a 3 minute walk from my home.

  • I have always been int. in the gdr, in 6 class

i wrote about gdr. and stil are very int. i think i have learn alot.thanks very much for this! love from norway!

  • Excellent video - thanks for posting!!

  • There are differend kinds of madmen... Why would someone try to escape from E to W Berlin?

  • E = GDR = stasi, socialism, zentrale planwirtschaft = no freedom

    W = West Germany = paradise

  • Paradise? To whom? Considering that W. Berlin has even people living at streets? Freedom at West Berlin? There is not absolute freedom ANYWARE. Do you have freedom to kill the leader of your state if you dislike him? Absolute freedom= anarchy

  • fuck off prick!

  • Oh... how inteligent you are. Can you give us some proof that you really evoluted from monkeys?

  • man, you don't have any remotest idea what you talking about, I am not from Berlin but from Poland, supposedly the funniest barrack in the (concentration) camp, even though it wasn't the best place to live, all I can tell, I hope time machine could be invented to send you in the past (for good), then you would see the diffrence

  • Try to visit Africa or go live in Rio de Janeiro, so you can tell me, this is, if you come back alive... Btw, have you ever listened about apartheied? Maybe not, cuz you grew up in a safe country. Those who grow drinking honey, does not know what is drink dirty water

  • Obviously you have never lived under that kind of system. I made four trips to East Germany before the wall came down and it was like going back 40 years. People were afraid to speak up in case they'd be reported to the police. A state that holds its own people hostage is no state at all. At least people in West Berlin could leave if they chose, can you say that about the people held in the East?

  • Sure, they could go Tchecoslovakia, Bulgaria, USSR, even China... It´s not in vain that today most half and according to some surveys even most of plp from this region wants the return of DDR. Capitalism means stupid and egoistic people, fat girls...

Now ask a person from a Latin country if she can go to another country? Several Mexicans die every year trying to cross US border, is that liberty?

If people in East were afraid to speak, plp in West are afraid to listen.

  • Darling, have you studied history? Do you know anything about the situation at that time? Read, study... it will serve you well understanding humanity and their need for freedom? Most of all, look at all the videos here. What confirmation of these peoples need to escape.
