The title can be translated roughly as "enough longing", though the Portuguese word saudade carries with it a far more complex meaning. The word implies an intensity of heartfelt connection that is yearned for passionately; not unlike feeling withdrawal symptoms from a drug that makes one feel good. Another good analogy might be an intense homesickness. Chega, in this case, means no more, enough.

It was first recorded by Elizete Cardoso on her album Canção do Amor Demais (1958) but the public did not take much notice of that release. Gilberto's own recording, released in July, 1958 as a single, made it a hit.

This particular version is covered by Jimmy Rosenberg. It was done by Stochelo Rosenberg on Seresta in 1996. "Chega de Saudade" (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈʃeɡɐ dʒi sawˈdadʒi]) (published English version is "No More Blues") is considered the first Bossa nova song. Composed by Antonio Carlos Jobim (music) and Vinícius de Moraes (lyrics) it became popular in the interpretation by João Gilberto ().

I am portuguese and I can assure you this is not a portuguese song :) Tom Jobim was brasilian. The lyrics of the original song are in portuguese because both Portugal and Brazil share the portuguese language. In any case it is a beautifull, beautifull song. Tom Jobim rocks! Jimmy rocks!

@ALKIS6891 HAHA! Thanks homie... Uh, well, first of all, I knew who wrote the tune... But what's this being a jobim jam have to do with what artist is playing it in this recording? And I didn't think that these sorts of players would learn a homie's arrangement, note for note. You're right though... I didn't do my homework. I jumped to conclusions. I've heard so many versions of the tune, I would have thought it to be lame to learn and record a note for note version.
