@ponti117 The point in the adrenne offensive was to drive the allies back far enough to free up manpowe on the western front so they could use that extra manpower to fight on the eastern front.
@ponti117 no, youre missing mine. if they had won the offensive, the germans could take troops from the western front to reinforce the eastern front at least imrpving their chances there, although neither of us could say for sure what outcome we would have had to expect.
17.000 germans and 20.000 allied soldiers died in a completly senseless battle ordered by a madman. the only good thing about the bulge is that it shortened the war
but we should remember this battle as a monument to the cruelty and pointlessness of war.
In describing this as the absolutely last throw of the dice by Hitler against the Allies they are a bit misleading. There was another massive armored operation in March 1945 against the Russians in Hungary.
Check Wikipedia Operation_Frühlingserwachen
Pity, they missed another good story of German heavy armour getting bogged down in unsuitable terrain.
Hitler was an idiot, yes, but many of his Generals and soldiers were 1 of the best ever, they fought the world, and look how long they kept it going with so little, both sides deserve respect.
If someone like Rommel or Manstein became the Fuhrer, we might even be far more ahead in technology, and the Third Reich would have ruled for a GOOD reason instead.
@jimmyxx3 well darling 1st occupying other countries and murder of civilians rearly goes any good... so it doesn't matter weather it's hitler or romel they still would've lost only matter of time. But one key mistake of germans of their emphasis on the tanks rather than on something that allied forces have relied. and something that is proven now to be the key. AIR FORCE. whoever controls the skies controls the bettlefield and no tiger tank can do a shit about it.
@TheJgonzalez7 yeah for a solder they did their job BUT as it goes in halo movie "you dont give a solder credit for something that he is expected of doing" ... Master Chief.... Yet i would rather point out the heroism of soviet ordinary people women and children who stood against unstoppable German war machine and beat it. Now that is something that hasn't been recorded in history not before nor after. Ordinary women and children with bare hands against COLD murdering steel of the tanks.
@TheJgonzalez7 THE true heroism and bravery is not a mighty tree that stands in the gusting storm but the flower who dares to grow against it. Fighting for something that one believes in, no matter the opposing forces.
He did many stuiped things like disgrade the MP44 until the point where it was too late to supply everyone he did not listen to Rommels demands of more Flakk AA guns to the point where Rommel had none left and nothing to defend against the RAF
or the SS in the Eastern Front not receiving the Winter Supplies that they ordered
or not listening to Mannstein's plan to save Stalingrad Hitler was not a good War Tactician at all
@RazorCell7 Well hitler was anything but stupid. Look at his political successes and the build up of Germany after WWI. What happened was 1: his health was declining and he was constantly medicated with drugs like morphine. 2: Because of his state of health, his highest ranking officers withheld information from him, which lead him to mistrust them. The failed assasination attempt on hime even worsened his paranoia. 3: He had ultimately simply lost his mind.
You are right, ofcourse, but in the beginning he did listen to his officers. Problem was, not all of them did agree and he listened to the wrong advice...the ones that he liked to hear. Goering for example...he certainly was NOT a good choice to lead the Luftwaffe. But he was a WWI ace and promised a lot he could not deliver on. I don't think Hitler considered himself much of a tactician in the beginning, but he went insane at some point.
No but he took the glory when the time arised look at Mannstein for example he invented the Blitzkrieg Tatic and took all of France with it in less then a month
and that's something the Prussian Army could not do in WW1 it was one of Hitlers biggest achievement thanks to Mannstein and yet he himself said he invented the Blitzkrieg and took all the credit and with the Fuhrer himself saying he did something no one would question him
The ideal and whole concept of the blitzkrieg tactic was invented by a Frenchman during WW1, not by Manstein. The Germans were only the first to put it to use it though.
not to much longer I think. They were being pushed on two sides loosing more air power every day it would only delay the war in Europe for another few months.
I don't blame them for trying as just staying defensive would always loose them the war. If in the first place they were only fighting on one front and had the same air power as the allies then the power of their tanks would show and the war would have kept going for perhaps years
I've got a bulge right here.... bam!

Even if Germans succeed in Ardenne Offence, Russians would still beat the Germans in the East.

What are you on?
Rommel never ordered any war crimes, nor were the Afrika Korps were accused for any.
And Rommel did realized the importance of Air power, it is 1 of the most basic things
On the Eastern Front for example, they had air superiority, they constantly updated their aircraft over the years (as with their enemy).
Why do I even both with you...You don't even know the different between weather and whether.

The Allies also showed a certain level of incompetence, not so much the soldiers but the Generals.
Of course the Germans just couldn't help themselves from shooting the POWs,even at this stage.

dont be idiot yourself. If Hitler was not "stupid", the war would take more years and more and more europeen peoples would died.

notice how I didn't say anything ab out hes political successes infact he probably was one of the best politicians in the world
but he was definitely not the best Military tatician
hes Officers made a well bult plan to invade Russia but hitler discarded the plan and took a map drew a line and circled command center moscow
Hitler had no back up plan and didn't like listening or be questioned by hes Officers
