I loved this song for years and then discovered he did a Part 2 on B-side of another later single. It wasn't a new version of the same tune, but an extension of the first one.
I have been looking for this song for years, but had forgotten the name. Thanks! It's such a great piece of writing in that early Country Rock, John Hartford style.
I really don't know how can anybody compare Johnny Rivers with Scott McKenzie. Scott's voice and arrangments are so beautiful that let any J.Rivers' song years back.
the flip side of san francisco i remember is what;s the difference, but these aren't the words i remember. scott obviously recorded 2 versions of the same song. very, very strange
@captainsoul1953 Hi from Barcelona. This song is very important in my life, but didn't know about this other version. Does anyone have them both (normal and rare) to share in mp3? I only have it in vinyl... and someone is throwing rocks at my window pane right now! Anyway, thanks for sharing through youtube
I'd like to hear Scott McK's song with lyrics "Hey friend wake up I'm throwing rocks at your window pane." The title is also "What's the Difference," so i'm confused he has two songs with same title, and similar tune. I recall it being on the flip side of San Francisco. Can anyone put it on YouTube? The lyrics are on line.
Thank you captainsoul1953 for helping an old Shindigger to regain the strengths of tapping some of my roots, I absolutely love both of these tunes from The Voice of Scott Mc Kenzie, and OMG what a voice! "What's The Difference",( who cares what chapter) and "Celeste" from the catalog of Donovan Leitch, crackles and pops be damned, this is going to the top of my favorites list here on You Tube(God bless"em) and my next stop is going to be a revisiting of "Like An Old Time Movie": ROCK ON ALL!
Better song than San Francisco

swaters, not quibbling, but this is more folk-rock than country rock, as was much of Hartford's work in that period.

Well done...although I think Johnny Rivers' cover version is better.

This is it. Easily the best version of this song. As good as anything on SGT> PEPPER. I'd love to have this album.
