On the contrary it's harder for programs to win titles in the modern era (1950-present) beacuse of stiffer competition but yet MSU and many other programs have won several titles during the past 50 years while UM just won 1/2 of a title.

Great returning linebackers (including B10 DPOY), better D backs and D line, better receivers, better running backs, equal QB. The only question is the inexperienced O line. Michigan did not cheat in 1989 stateman, you are thinking of fab five era which was five years later. State has 2 national titles in hockey to UM 5 and ALL national titles in football are disputed until they have a playoff system. Paper polls are subjective and always have been, for all schools. MSU's titles were won in the last 50 years during the modern era of football while most of UM's titles accespt for 1 were from the no passing, no facemask, football was closer to rugby era.

On the contrary it's harder for programs to win titles in the modern era (1950-present) beacuse of stiffer competition but yet MSU and many other programs have won several titles during the past 50 years while UM just won 1/2 of a title.
UM lost a game that was very important to them too. No matter what UM fans say it's a RIVALRY game. UM plays Delaware State next week so let's not get on the subject of schedules. By the way nice job beating Iowa yesterday. Big 10 title this year? HA HA HA!!

It's your opinion, and it's subjective about "eras." Like how your convenient cut-off point is two years after we won a NC.
You can laugh all you want, but we just played a tough Iowa team, and lost by 2. You beat Illinois. AND we're still competing despite a lack of talent. Our recruiting class next year will finally be able to add some talent.
If MSU and Iowa hadn't gotten those turnovers, we'd be 6-0.

It's too early to tell. I'm excited for Big Ten Media Day tomorrow.
It'll be a lot closer than many are willing to admit. Both schools have young quarterbacks; we should have a better offensive line, and receivers. MSU will likely have the better defense.
I find it asinine to hear MSU folks already predicting the downfall of UM football; we can recruit based upon our overall institution, not just athletics. You also recruit based upon who who fits your needs, not where they're from.

As much as it pains me, jclark is right. Until we beat Michigan for the first time in like 7 years, MSU fans can't really talk. I'd love to. Always close, but never a win. We've had too many freakin chances over those years and totally pissed it away. (See 2007, 2005, and 2004)

State has 2 national titles in hockey to UM 5 and ALL national titles in football are disputed until they have a playoff system. Paper polls are subjective and always have been, for all schools. I give props where they are due, and I try not to be a hater, but know that MSU will be okay, but hopefully not when they play UM, but if they do pull out a win, then it was just their time.
I actually wanted the guy a couple of years ago to win the Heisman, but I forgot his name all of a sudden, and they started out good, but that schedule catches up with them at times, but you all will be fine.

I believe that the UM MSU game is the most important game to any MSU fan. As a Michigan fan, I think it is the least interesting game all season. Michigan does, as it always does, DESTROYS Michigan State University. The Spartans should stop their pointless attempts to beat Michigan. Plus in College Football, the U of M-MSU rivlary has declined, the record is now 67-28-5. But how ironic, in terms of ticket inflation and seats sold, the U of M-MSU game was #12.

and you were losing 24-0 until OSU's QB started giving you touchdowns, whereas we were leading OSU until late in the second half.

yes we were, not only withing a touchdown, but ahead by 3. OSU only got in the red zone once. The other was a big play. We played them much closer than you did, down by 24 until Boeckman kept handing you touchdowns. Hell, we would have won had he done that to us.

Yes UM sucked this year (when compared to expectations) so what's the point of fans of other teams saying they did? I thank OSU for prompting Llloyd to resign. UM's new coach will make the rivalry completely fresh. I think UM and MSU fans can both see a first year a first yeart coach (at UM) and second year coach (at MSU) as a good thing.

Of scUM's 11 national championships... 10 were won before 1950. 6 were won before 1934. Only 1/2 a championship in modern era (last 40 years)
PS State has 3 championships in modern era.
