Actually Lelouch didn't want to help out the Japanese, he was merely using them; Light and Lelouch are the same when it comes to using people, but Lelouch had a heart, while Kira was a fascist bastard. Lelouch was corrupted by the power of the Geass, not like Kira with the Death note. Kira went crazy, got a god complex, while Lelouch got greedy and a bit selfish. I think that their powers had to do a lot with how they changed.

I disagree. Light is willing to hurt innocents just to cover his own ass. Lelouch never hurt others for his own safety, but for those he cares about. Lelouch puts value in the people he uses beyond how useful they are to him. The only exception is Rolo, but Rolo did kill Shirley so Lelouch has a pretty good excuse in doing so. Even in the end, despite Lelouch hating Rolo, he still gave Rolo a peaceful death by lying to him about how he cared about him as a brother.
