I know right? Professor Fuita is an increado talent. These chumps are trying to give him pointers? These punks comment to pettrucci "your too fast you need to slow down? Do they tell via "your too emotive"? Do they tell Yngwie "your too classical sounding"? It just goes to show the difference between a pro and schmo and Mr. Fujita is all pro as he very humbly tells them... thank you XD
i feel like your playing too much though.... there needs to be more space between the notes when phrasing because this open up dynamics.... i find alot of blues players have problems with the vibrato bend...... bb king was the master of this and Santana and Hendrix new this very well..... hold notes to give space to quick phrasing is key in blues..... it sounds more like jazz noodling otherwise........
@gromshit101 WEll i can tell hes playing from his hands... and not his wrist ... hes no holding any notes... and its all the same time signature for his phrases...
@codehendrix Tomo Noodling??? dude you don't know what you're talkin' about!!! or who you're talking to! Or maybe post a video of your playing so we can learn from you. LISTEN MORE, I hope you can play even half as good as that!
@William102582 I actually like listening to myself alot... i like to record myself and play.. havent posted new stuff lately other than one thing i did which i like alot.... its called ".... and the tiger met the dragon once again".
@William102582 The videos i have posted are pretty old but i did a instrumental cover of estelle... r&b .... which i like to listen to still..... check ME out then... im being honest with what i say... i do believe tomo is amazing though... dont get me wrong..but why cant i say that he seems like hes noodling here... and yet still like him.....? i do..but i dont like him here thats all.... I also have another thing called, ".... and the tiger met the dragon..." which i like to listen too
@codehendrix what i love to do is record myself and then listen to myself right after.... i do that alot ... especially when im playing with other people... if im jamming with them.....
@codehendrix hmm doesnt seem like hes really going for a "pure" bb king feel here. thats just me guessing intention which is hard to do with music. love the vids tomo!
It's fun to play this style. Did a good job on changing key. But I'd say, work on picking dynamics. Everything you pick is so soft and sometimes like you're unsure, and same volume. The greats really dig in and get some tone out of that strat, you can make it vary wildy just by the attack. Make that thing learn to scream!
i must comment on this after watching. you open up very slowly, while lately building a very solid improvisation. really impressed with your pace. thank you.
Hmm, I'll be honest, I got bored quick. Every note is the same. There's absolutely no dynamics, or feeling. Maybe too much thinking.. Try mixin' in some legato and muting techniques and maybe learn to dig in a bit with the pick to get some tone. It sounds clinical or read from a book, I'd say don't worry so much about the book stuff, work on making that thing sing.
at least you're honest. I do think though that Tomo is a unique player because he always sounds inspired. that's what i really enjoy about these videos. I think to say it lacks feeling is judging out of context, he made this for a student of his i think. it's amazing that he can play so well just giving ideas to kids. it wasn't about bearing his soul, it was about educating students, and he is great at that i hear. If you've heard his solo albums you'd know he's very soulful as well
Thanks for your kind words! From this video..all I care about others, my students. I made for them. Thank you so much! My new cd will be released around mid March 2010. It's trio cd.
W/ Steve Gadd, Bernard Purdie, Steve Jordan and Will Lee. I wanted John Mayer to play one song... but he was way too busy.
@TomoFujitaMusic WOW Steve and Steve Jordan?! nice! too bad John couldn't play, maybe it's better that way so people buy it for your talents and not Mayer's ( I really like him too ). Good luck!
Yes, I have played a few Dr. Z. Cool amp. I love vintage Fender myself. Reason? Simple! This amp has Eminence's Legend 105 speaker. RCA vintage tubes. I like my Fender Blues Jr. Try to find like this? Fender Princeton Reverb.
Tomo, do you have any tips on expanding my soloing? I have reached a point where I really only have a few licks that I play in my solos, and it's boring to my ear after a while.
Most of us as guitar players..first we learn "shapes" of minor penta.. and everyone think we can improvise! Have you ever watch my instructional dvd AYGP? Get this and work on your groove, time and chord changes. Without these. Licks are stay as licks. And learn about triads. Gradually don't visualize things... degrees.. M3 P5... etc. What do you think?
I'll definitely have to check out your DVD Tomo. And what you said seems very logical, I just have to put it into practice. Thanks a lot for the advice, I'll see how things go.
Internet is too much info and you can get lost easy. Before you expand your soloing idea, you can review what you have and building your foundation work... this will accept your new application on soloing... etc. Please check out my AYGP dvd (then my Hot Set with lesson material) and work on your Rt37 swing groove (this will allow/help you play over changes.) You want to understand chord changes before you know what scales or sounds you are looking for. You're welcome!
It's so true. The internet has so much information on it that I find myself getting lost so easily. Just because I don't know where to start with it all.
I'm probably going to order your DVD by the end of this week, can't wait to start learning for that!
some people are just dumb,Tomo you are one of the greatest guitar players of the day, wish i had just 10% of your skills

Got any advice on a good low powered tube amp?
I have tried the Blues Jr but I didnt like it for some reason, to me it has a dull sound
HRDx has to much power
I played one of the reissue Princeton Reverbs, I really liked that it HAD the Fender CLEAN sound
I'd like to try the Deluxe Reverb, I've heard good things about that
Have you tried Dr. Z amps any?

Such a unique sound and fantastic passing notes through the chord changes. Love that style, Tomo!
You are always in the groove when you play as well, so cool to see you staying in such a tight groove with just a guitar for your backing.
