To be fair I don't hate them. There is a important debate to be had on the subjects they raise. They need the support of the majority of the population to make real change. I hate the way the undermine this by alienating most of the population and racking us a massive policing bill at everyone's expense because they threaten to close a power station down.

Yes, the debates are important. In particular, I feel that a 'full weight' should be given to what we have and own, rather than chasing always for more. There is a need for some sort of radical overhaul of both 'the system' and our own way of seeing things, but I don't know how to instigate this (partly because I don't know exactly what is required). I do think the police pressure is OTT though. Thanks for your response. Nothing like communication to open channels.

It won't ever happen quickly enough for some people. I think being 'green' and 'eco' is playing large part in politics and digging into our 'culture' at a fair rate. Just look at the Conservatives party slogan now, "vote blue go green." It's easy to be cynical, of course, but politicians know they need to address climate change etc as it's going to become a more important issue for voters as time goes on I'd suggest. Of course it could go a lot faster but that's not how the real world works.
