  • i cried when owen scored this.

  • what an assist!

  • the days when we took a TEAM to the world cup. say what you like about sinclair and heskey but sinclair would drop in for scholes when he was caught out of position and heskey would take all the bumps for owen

  • but brazil still champion in this year suck britishs after cristiano ronaldo go to real madrid barclays turns a worst championship of the world i fell so bored when i see!

  • @luiswetterling why the fuck are you here if you hate england, premier league is best league in the world because its not predictible like the fucking la liga. seeing cunts like you on england videos commenting bullshit about us makes me want to kill people.

  • Although I'm German i would always support England.....since I was a child i love the way you play and i wish you good luck in EC 2012.

  • Lucio? Hahaha

  • Michael Owen would have gone on to break records and be a legendary striker up there with bergkamp et al if it wasn't for that bastard hamstring. I'm an everton fan but I just love the way he played the striker's role when he was at his best. I'd even drive him to Goodison myself today.

  • On paper, this wasn't a particularly spectacular England team, but a solid one. What made this game so exciting was that, had England won, the Cup was there for the taking. So many of the major nations / threats - France, Italy, Argentina, Portugal, Spain, Holland, Czech Republic, Sweden etc - had all either been knocked out already or hadn't qualified. The draw opened up beautifully for England. Truth be told, 2002 was a poor World Cup in terms of quality - but it was England's big chance.

  • @JoeBellerby so you wouldnt say the semifinals in 1990 was closer than the quarter finals in 2002. riiiiiiiiiiiiight

  • i remember watching this when i was 11 yrs old, i used 2 love owen, i was happy with him scoring as long as brazil wins

  • The one World Cup where we stood a chance. Every manager since this has just screwed it up and after waiting 4 years for world cup 2010 we got humiliated when possibly the worst striker in the premiership (Emily Heskey) was taken.

England is becoming like politics now. Every England fan knows who should be taken (and we are always right) but somehow we always end up with an sluggish team.

Seeing Owen in his day still makes me smile.

  • The days when players wore the 3 lions on there shirt with pride ...........

  • Not only should we have won this, we should have gone on and gone for the whole thing!

  • england lose this match not because seaman mistake...neither ronaldinho 'freak' skill...it because a book title "Art Of War'..read this on fourfourtwo magazine malaysia edition aug 11..scolari revealed the secret...great england team these days....

  • Can't help but smile when I see this. This game was practically the final..

  • so wait we scored against brazil through danny mills and emile heskey?

  • @CptJibolov fucking dire isn't it.

  • Mills, Heskey, Sinclair......THOSE WERE THE DAYS!!

  • John Motson's commentary here is sensational.

  • great ball from Heskey....

  • I'd forgotten we played Danny Mills against Brazil. Imagine picking Danny Mills against Brazil...

  • @NoBrianNoGain Agreed. As a Leeds fan, I'd have to say that the two most baffling selections were Danny Mills in this game and Batty to take the kick against the Argies.

  • @leedsfanca well...until we put David James in nets, that's when the rules changed. After that I kept waiting for my phone to ring...

  • @leedsfanca I thought Danny Mills had a decent tournament!

  • john motson commentary on england goals is just legendary

  • Even Germany couldn't get a goal against this Brazil side

  • Looking back the Sven teams lacked a killer instinct but they put themselves in positions at three straight tournaments to accomplish something great but fell short at the quarterfinal round each time. 2002-2006, those English sides were two penalty failures away from something big.

  • Should have never left Liverpool...

  • Shame it did not count for much!!

  • this is in english. GAY

  • AND HE'S SCORED!! You don't hear that much anymore do ya?

  • @iambrolyhaha lets show the man some respect

  • But then came the greatest; Ronaldinho and he destroyed England.

  • Brazil have one of the most terrible defenses in the world when it comes to defending and yet still we go mad when we get a goal against them lool.

  • @resilienceman This is actually a myth. The statistics tell a different thing.

  • @resilienceman You realise that was the only goal they conceded after round one in the tournament, right?

  • @psifla Yeah but they was bound to concede anyways eventually.

  • i remember this video

this is the only world cup i watched on daytime

  • ahhh good times

  • owen was the best, after that injury, hes not as good :( put him on the dam england team capelloooooo

  • i miss michael owen

capello is so stupid for not calling him to to the national team

  • yea but brasil then fucks them up and wins the cup

  • @DANNNNY19 Yeah, especially that Ronaldinho freekick.

  • @KhazarLenkoranX lmaooo yupp ;) its also funny because ashley cole gave Ronaldinho some bad attitude while Dinho was only being nice. Few minutes later, crazy goal ;)

  • @DANNNNY19 I remember watching this game and right after Owen's goal, the English fans were talking how they are destined to become world champions that year, yet they didn't know what was going to happen in the next 25 mins, an absolute Ronaldinho show.

  • @KhazarLenkoranX I know! I really think Ronaldinho is the best ever!

  • @DANNNNY19 he is one of the best to ever play the game, but the greatest was Ronaldo Fenomeno. That guy is a legend.

  • @KhazarLenkoranX For sure. I think the title for number 1 is between them two. Basically I think we can both agree on that the English created the game, but the Brasilians perfected it. ? :)

  • @DANNNNY19 I agree

  • We deserved to win that, NO SURRENDER.

  • England was better with Ericsson . . .

with Capello England will not see the Quarter Finals again !

  • whats the name of this commentator ?

  • @Manschaft13Legend john motson

  • men he always scored important goals in WC and the teammates ruined it by silly mistakes.

  • clinical finish from owen at his prime..seaman howler..but he still english best keeper in his generation..remember euro 96..? 5-1 munich..? 1-0 argentina 2002 world cup..?

  • 2002 world cup was actually pretty good for england in terms of performance. they played well and put up a good fight against Brazil.

    the following years.......not so much

  • @unreal030 Put up a good fight? Did you even watch that match? England were pathetic and didnt show up for the second half where they were playing against ten men. It was men against boys. Did you know that this goal is the only shot on goal England had in the entire game?

  • we had a chance to go 2 - 0 infront in this game heskey squandered a chance when he should have knocked it down to Owen if only

  • @paul2008uk story of His England career, everyone claims he's a good forward because he's not selfish but on the rare occasion that he decides to be selfish he always fires it into the goalkeeper, happened against the USA at this world cup too and it cost us

  • i remember i was also in year 6 and when Owen scored that i really thought we had a massive chance too beat brazil but sure enough they got too goals back that was a great goal and Owen is still one of our greatest players i mean he scored in every mayor England tounrment

  • i remember watching this in year 8, the school went bazurk

  • No commentators match the passion that Motty has while commentating. And I also remember watching this at school!

  • 2 R's later and it was 2-1 ,shame great goal as well

  • Does Lucio get an assist here?

  • What a pity he couldnt play in this championship. Damn! What Capello thinking about???

Im not a fan of England team but its really fuckin sad umpires r biased against them time and again.

  • england played much better in that world cup than they did in this yearss

  • I remember this game was in primary skool den.. Wish he came to south Africa instead of heskey n rooney wasn't as good to.. Owen was the best wish he was still lyk dat

  • I remember that World and remember that Nicky Butt, Trevor Sinclair and Danny Mills all had good tournaments, putting aside this idea that you MUST have 11 of the very best in the world to win the World Cup.

It's about having a great "team". The Germans are masters at knockout football mentality. They know they don't have the best 11 players but they play to their strengths.

  • cool finish, shame he isn't in South Africa instead of Donkey Heskey...

  • Owne is a beast!

  • i remember this! this was when owen was at his very best! wish he could still play like this he would have been legendary!

  • What a great Goal - now just don't conceed from a silly free kick or something.

    Oh dear

  • would have gone all the way had england won this game

    unlucky

  • I remember me and my dad watching this early in the morning, we both went insane..probably woke up the entire street so good, wish we won this.

  • Wish he was going to the world cup!

  • it was 7 in the morning in school, we all went mad, the teachers went mad, we were so unlucky to lose that game :(

  • I remember watching this at primary school. Some of the teachers went mental!

  • Não adiantou nada! hahahahahaha

  • we would of won and gone through if it wernt for seamon, great keeper but not on that day

  • @JordanDinstrumentals I don't think the Ronaldinho goal was Seamans fault. Any goalkeeper would have been off his line anticipating a cross and Ronaldinho just stuck it into the top corner, was a great goal.

  • sammy lee, lol

  • We really should have won this.

  • @blm1990 VOCÊS SÓ GANHARAM UMA,E FOI EM CASA,RONALDO ACABOU COM A FESTA KKK

  • @blm1990 Bs, Brazil was better. You were outplayed. There was no way you could've prevented Brazi's equaliser. Ronaldo to the left, Rivaldo to the right. Ronaldinho running down the center. Only two defenders. Mark two of the 3R's and you're leaving the 3rd to score. Ronaldinho and Ronaldo were marked and Ronaldinho passed to Rivaldo. As for the 2nd goal, keep believing it was meant to be a cross.

  • I was there and to this Day, it was the greatest moment..Oh what a feeling!!!!!

  • easy goal crap defending and keeping

  • What a goal, honestly thought we were going to go on and win the World Cup after that went in.

  • Best Goal ever to celebrate in an English pub =D

  • At that precise moment I had a fried egg in my mouth. A nanosecond later my pint hit the pub wall. Later, ofcourse, we cried.

  • just to remember u guys that brazil won this match...:D

    Sorry fo that

  • well yer lol bt it was a gd goal tho!!

  • those were the days Owen was a class act

  • @devaneycoolera he still is.

  • @devaneycoolera He still is a class finisher at least. As with most strikers if he played every game (& could stay fit more to the point) he still be putting them away week in week out.

  • @howlinjojo

You're absolutely spot on there. Lots of forgotten men in that squad though.

Killer finish from Owen by the way.

  • RIP MICHAEL OWEN, 1997-2002.

  • Trevor Sinclair? Danny Mills? WTF?

  • @howlinjojo

Haha, I know, shocking isn't it? To be fair Trevor Sinclair wasn't a bad player, he had a good season before that WC. How many left wingers players have England had since then? We've played Joe Cole who is right footed on the left. Sinclair's probably the last naturally left sided player we played consistently, at least in the qualifiers and for that tournament.

  • @thechosen2010 Trevor Sinclair was not left footed.

  • that was a great goal i cant believe owens been dropped he was one of the best strikers for England 7 8 years ago he may be older but he sure as hell gave us a chance against brasil in 2002

  • THIS WAS HIS LAST GOAL IN WC.

  • it's a shame the media give sven such a hard time, he was a great manager, and would have at least qualified for the euros.

  • thank god the world cup won't be on the bbc. I'm sorry but I cannot stand John Mottson. Clive Tildesly and the ITV pundits are so much better. Andy Townsend does superb analysis!

  • This was possibly my favourite ever moment as an England fan. With all the other favourites out, after this goal I really began to believe we would win the world cup...just a shame about the rest of the match

  • Damn...I remember I was 10 when this happened. Our teacher let us come in late but I wished I'd stayed in school to see the goal with all my friends!

  • LOL Sammy Lee!!!

What dismal commentary by Trevor Brooking.

  • Erm ... no.

  • i rememberthis goal quite clearly. my dad was saying "i haven't quite worked out englands tactics yet" then michael was through...

  • Owen is pure ninja.

  • That should have been our world cup....Danny Mills or not. Brazil were there for the taking and we screwed up. I dont see us going beyond the 2nd round in south africa next year.....I hope by god i'm wrong....but I really cant see it.

  • @capokhatpin

    I can't see it either.

The best players that play in primiership are not from England.

I reckon England will go past the second round but too far beyond it.

  • @duduvissotto

Wayne Rooney? Head and shoulder the best player in that league.

  • @thechosen2010

thanks for your opinion. He's a good player indeed, but in my viewpoint, far from the best.

  • @duduvissotto

Fair enough, I'm not a Utd fan btw, I hate the team and the Premier League in general, I'm an Oldham fan. I personally think England are pretty crap. But if they do anything at the World Cup I think it'll be down to Rooney, he'll carry us. I use to think he was overrated but this season he's come on leaps and bounds and he's the reason Man Utd are still in contention for the title imo.

  • Was there, sitting behind the goal " What a moment" then "god it was sad"

  • hahaha

  • God i forgot we had Danny Mills in the England team, at least things can't get that bad again!!.

  • Glen Johnson?!

  • @utterutternutter Take your point!!!.

  • @jaseywasey49 Dont be so sure, Jamie Carragher is in the provisional squad.

  • @jaseywasey49 lol they just did

  • @jaseywasey49 looks like things are worse now then they were back then regardless of danny mills being there.

  • @jaseywasey49 No, not now that Heskeys retired...

  • owen shud really be in the squad, i mean bent defoe all didnt play well against the friendly today, might as well have owen at least as a sub. whats the harm in that

  • fucking spot on. bent and defoe may do well in league, but when it comes to big mnatches in world cup, theyll screw up

  • i rememba watching this at school at about half 7 in the morning lol

  • haha yh same i was about to comment that - good times

  • same here hah

  • @wwfcbrad Oh my god same

first time they stopped school to watch this

  • @wwfcbrad haha true dat!

  • @wwfcbrad yeh lol

  • @wwfcbrad haha we got the morning off to watch it, half the school never turned in for the afternoon.

  • @wwfcbrad so did i back at old 5 acres school lol. where did you go?

  • nope

  • oh, the commentators, they are the voice of the Fifa games right??

  • I remember crying when ronaldinho scored. tat was a total heartbreak.

  • omg me too, my jaw just dropped

  • I remember seeing that goal live with all my friends at school and about 60 of us watching it on a projector-TV... it was bloody magical lol

  • Brazil did all go all the way in 2002 and did win it, u idiot!

  • you're the idiot man, it's clear he just typed Brazil the second time when he meant really meant England.

  • haha i knw!

  • I think that if Brazil hadn't been such a juggernaut in 2002, Brazil could have gone all the way and won it. They had a great team that year. And they've been doing great in the qualifiers, maybe they'll go all the way in 2010.

  • @Inukshuk67 lmao retard they did win it

  • Are you high? They did win it.

  • Motson was obsessed with food during his commentry in the competetion lol

    *sausages, bacon......

  • Lucio took a page out of Rio Ferdinand's book there.

  • ''MICHEAL OWEN FOR ENGLAND HE SCORES'' alan hansen was goin crazy

  • it's not alan hansen

  • its your mum.

  • idiot it not alan hansen itsjohn motson

  • is that the relationship between Owen and Beckham better than the one between him and Gerrard?

  • as much as i love the owen and beckham partnership for england, i dont think anyone can beat the partnership of owen and stevie....both my favourite!

    also like Gerrard + Torres

  • Loving Sammy Lee celebrate!

  • Ever since England lost this game (2-1) they have never got back to this standard.

Good luck playing for united but with the recent comments I must say that Liverpool are a better club than united. Just Liverpool need to field their best team against the smaller clubs in the prem thats were liverpool lost points. They did the double over united and chelsea.

  • I agree...I think this was the best that Englands played in a long time...

  • bullshit, liverpool arent better than united only gerrard, torress, mascherano and reina could possbly get into uniteds team. And you seem to forget that the 2 previous seasons before that united got the double over liverpool, last season was a one off

  • and the double over chelsea

  • I don't think they did. But lets be honest I don't think their are many man united players that could make it into the Liverpool first team. Maybe Vidic but I wouldn't want him because he's a manc.

  • i assure you they did , look it up. And are you trying to tell me you dont think rooney, evra, ferdinand, carrik,ec could make liverpools first bteam. If you disagree tell me what liverpool players are better than them in their position

  • Rooney might since we only have one good striker and we need another one. Ferdinand and carrick are shit... I'm sure you have better players than them.. Evra is good at skills but when it comes to actually playing football he's shit.

  • carrick may not be amazin but what other centre mids have liverpool got to partner mascerhano. And evra and ferdinand are awesome also

  • aquilino. When he is back from injury he will be one of the best players in the prem. Or at least one for the future.

  • I don't think their are many man united players that could make it into the Liverpool first team??? please tellme that ur joking... thereare only 2 liverpool players who would make it into uniteds first team

  • what O shea will play ahead of Johson?? and united will take mascherano over fletcher, no reina over foster ~(van de sar will retire very very soon)...

    cmon

  • Liverpool ist still the best football-club :)

When you walk throught a storm... (everyone know it i dont need to write more ;D)

  • err how r u wat have u won not the prem for 18 year next year u make it 19 so man u has taken over liverpool by miles

  • yeah scored for us now haha GLORYGLORYMANUTD

  • Dirty manc he wont score for you mate hes scouse at heart and always will be OUR SEASON NEXT SEASON!!!

  • Whatever, what do you think he will do sneak across to Benitez and ask for a Liverpool shirt?? If he's "scouse at heart" then why did you sell him to Newcastle?

  • We sold him to Real Madrid who then sold him to newcastle come on get your facts stright before posting stupid comments

  • they sold him to real madrid not newcastle

  • hell bag the winner at anfield hahahaha

  • Retard. He just scored against Malaysia XI

  • All that hard work and only for the fucking peice of meat with eyes, Seaman, to let us down...

  • i can't wait until he pumps a few in at anfield and shuts the yaps of those damn scousers

  • Ian Wright's face after this game was amazing, it was so enjoyable to watch it being from Glasgow! England won't get any further than the last eight as always in the World Cup, they don't have the bottle or the players and they have Peter Crouch up front.

  • could be worse, could have kenny miller up front

  • could be worse, we could have chris iwelumo upfront.

  • iwelumo scored 8 goals in 7 games for wolves, have faith in him, that mistake was his international debut- i bet you'd get nervous too if you were him. everybody makes em

  • shutï
