@sgc002222 Seriously?? You have to ask this question? It's a musical... BASED on a historical Bible text. They didn't have 60s go-go dancers or rock n' roll OR country western music styles back then either. If you want realism, stay away from musical theater.
@PhxRising1975 The only reason I say this is because he MENTIONS the steel drums. in all of the other numbers they don't mention the instruments dancing or type of music. also there a lot of realitic musicals, RENT, Hairspray, Miss Sigon. Even The Phantom fo the Opera is based on a true story... just try telling relistic people to stay away from musical theater.
@sgc002222 I here what you're saying but I don't agree. Musicals, by nature, are not realistic. They are heightened reality. How often do you break out in song and/or dance on a daily basis?? How often do everyday people start singing and dancing their feelings out in front of you while you're at work??
@PhxRising1975 I don't mean to ruin the tone of this conversation, but i commonly break out into song and dance daily.. Makes things a lot more lively i must say :3
@sgc002222 Look, I love musical theater. I work in musical theater. I'm all FOR musical theater, but it simply is NOT realistic. It may deal or present honest, real , heart felt issues that we may deal with in our own lives, but that doesn't make it "realistic" it makes it honest. And I did not say "realistic people should stay away from musical theater"... I said if YOU'RE looking for realism, musical theater is not where to find that.
@PhxRising1975 yes but this brings me to my orignal point do they SAY they are singing? No. My origonal point was only because he MENTIONED the drums... and if I didn't like the "hightned reaility" as you called it would I know and love all of those musicals I mentioned?
@rosserm11 First of all, the song you're referring to is NOT reggae, it's a calypso. Calypso is an element of reggae along with blues and rock n' roll. Secondly, what's racist about Judah being played by a black actor?? The only racism I smell seems to be coming from you.
Wait... where steel drums even invented yet?
