These high gas prices are getting ridiculous! I've decided to drive my car only to travel from home to work (and vice versa, hehe). I walk to the supermarket which is only 3 blocks down from my house, I don't go out to restaurants anymore, I rent movies now, so no more going to the movies. That's it! The government is forcing us to do this, and therefore, flushing our economy down the toilet. Ridiculous!

You are paying roughly 1/3 of your weekly net income on gas. Now if you are in a lease and underwater on your loan, you are hurting.

Congress decides the taxes on gas. The price of crude oil, which is independent of the Congress is still low. So if price goes up, it wouldn't be as much as last summer.
Are these gallon prices people are quoting? I've just worked out that in the summer Brits were paying $6.59/US gallon of unleaded. Right now it's $4.82.
When I used to work at a gas station, I would call in saying one of my competitors was lower than me. They gave me authorization to match that lower price but the comp really wasn't below us. Within 10-15 mins they would match us at the lower price. I would do this atleast once everytime I worked to try to make the price go down faster and no one was the wiser.

i keep hearing that gas in the rest of the country has gone up 15 to 20 cents a gallon in a week. however in my town of fontana gas actually has gone down about 8-10 cents a gallon in the past 7 days to about $3.59/gallon. as far as i know, the hurricane effects havent reached California......at least not yet
im in Oklahoma and Oklahoma has just about the lowest gas price in the U.S. the prices right now that im seeing is $3.22 per gallon alcohol free. but do to hurricane gustav the price went to $3.35 lol
You can't blame that poor gas station manager for that. It's not his fault, he is only trying to keep his gas station open and working so he can feed his family like everyone else.
the us needs to invest in public transportation. as far as mass transit goes, the best thing CA has serves only a small section of the bay area. it is ridiculous. we invest millions in widening highways when we should've been building rail systems and investing in more long term solutions.
I agree, we could ride bikes. But they are not as fast as cars and you would have to wake up even earlier then what you usually do just to get to work on time. and if you live far away it can get really tiring after a while of having to do this every morning. And some people have klids they have to take to and from school and it would be a mess for them to keep their kids on there bikes and heading to school. Also a lot of areas are not easy to get to by bike.
I walked home from school this passed year and there has been no side walks or anything but a tiny peice of the side of the road to walk on, because there is a bunch of low tree branches that cover most the grass area beside the road. I had big 18 wheelers speedy right passed me. They had barely started putting a sidewalk on each sided just before school ended. This school has been around a long time too. So try getting to and from places like this on a bike.
Actually biking / walking to places would make you LESS tired, as your overall health would improve. And yes, it would be hard with shitty streets like that, that's why you should start now so it changes eventually. What are the numbers anyway? 40% of all trips with a car is less than 2 kilometers long? I think it's something like that.
If I or someone else started biking or walking not a lot of others would do the same, so I doubt the city would want to make it more bike friendly for just a few people. Also, when I would walk home, once I got home I was exhausted for the first like 4 or 5 weeks doing it and I just ended up sleeping doing the time I would have been at school if I didn't get off-periods. But I did eventually get use to it.
Also 2 kilometers is like less them 2 miles right? My sister, her husband, and my father all have to drive probably 10+ miles M-F to get to work. And my mom lives right next to my fathers work and we tend to go there almost every weekend. I don't think the stuff you got is for were I live, because a lot of people tend to live further away then what my father is from their work.
OMG you americans think this is expensive in germany we are paying over $8 a gallon and more than half of the cars here are diesel which is a $1 more so stop complaining and be thankful you all have cheap gas

Yeah, we pay half the price for a gallon of gas but we pay "thousands" a year for health insurance. If you can't get on a group plan it will cost you about $5000 to $9000 a year for health insurance

Hm... I've got around $1.95 - SLC, UT. The low gas prices are due to worldwide economic slow down as people cut back on spending and driving... etc, that has had a profound effect right now.

9/11/08 the gas prices here in jefferson city tennessee the gas prices were 3.59. The next day it jumped to 4.71! for unleaded....is that bull shit?

i keep hearing that gas in the rest of the country has gone up 15 to 20 cents a gallon in a week. however in my town of fontana gas actually has gone down about 8-10 cents a gallon in the past 7 days to about $3.59/gallon. as far as i know, the hurricane effects havent reached California......at least not yet

im in Oklahoma and Oklahoma has just about the lowest gas price in the U.S. the prices right now that im seeing is $3.22 per gallon alcohol free. but do to hurricane gustav the price went to $3.35 lol

the us needs to invest in public transportation. as far as mass transit goes, the best thing CA has serves only a small section of the bay area. it is ridiculous. we invest millions in widening highways when we should've been building rail systems and investing in more long term solutions.

I agree, we could ride bikes. But they are not as fast as cars and you would have to wake up even earlier then what you usually do just to get to work on time. and if you live far away it can get really tiring after a while of having to do this every morning. And some people have klids they have to take to and from school and it would be a mess for them to keep their kids on there bikes and heading to school. Also a lot of areas are not easy to get to by bike.

I walked home from school this passed year and there has been no side walks or anything but a tiny peice of the side of the road to walk on, because there is a bunch of low tree branches that cover most the grass area beside the road. I had big 18 wheelers speedy right passed me. They had barely started putting a sidewalk on each sided just before school ended. This school has been around a long time too. So try getting to and from places like this on a bike.

Actually biking / walking to places would make you LESS tired, as your overall health would improve. And yes, it would be hard with shitty streets like that, that's why you should start now so it changes eventually. What are the numbers anyway? 40% of all trips with a car is less than 2 kilometers long? I think it's something like that.

If I or someone else started biking or walking not a lot of others would do the same, so I doubt the city would want to make it more bike friendly for just a few people. Also, when I would walk home, once I got home I was exhausted for the first like 4 or 5 weeks doing it and I just ended up sleeping doing the time I would have been at school if I didn't get off-periods. But I did eventually get use to it.

Also 2 kilometers is like less them 2 miles right? My sister, her husband, and my father all have to drive probably 10+ miles M-F to get to work. And my mom lives right next to my fathers work and we tend to go there almost every weekend. I don't think the stuff you got is for were I live, because a lot of people tend to live further away then what my father is from their work.
