I'm talking about the fact that Joey and the techs made "The Final Countdown" a "vocal" album, rather than the type of guitar-oriented album they had done on their first two releases. That was one reason John left the band. "Love Is Meant To Last Forever," for example, is essentially the song "The Final Countdown" redone as a guitar-oriented song. "Eternal Flame" would fit in perfectly on the first two (and best) Europe releases, but it has little in common with the poppy Europe of FC and later.

Well firsty, it wasnt Joey Tempest who made those "changes". If they were any changes to the songs they woud have been made by the record company, Sony. And these two are my favorite albums of all time, TFC and Total Control. Without the catchy tone of TFC Europe wouldnt have made it this big, without it they probably wouldnt be around today writing all their new stuff that is just simply the best new rock we can hear today.TFC coud been have been harder, but then rock history woud been changed.

Actually, after the recording was completed, the entire band went home, but Joey stayed with the techies and did the mixing. The 100% non-metal, bubble-gum sound may have been what the record company wanted, but it was Joey who made the changes. It's true that if Europe hadn't abandoned metal they wouldn't have been nearly as popular. And they did write some great pop songs from TFC on.

Best new rock? Wow. I'll take Symphony X or Blind Guardian or Pagan's Mind, etc., any day. I'm not into pop.

Ok, I know pretty much all there is to know about Europe and I have never heard that story. So im not putting much trust to it. Pop? Have you heard their newer albums from 2004 til now? It's Rock/Hard Rock, no way near pop?

Yes, I've heard their newer albums. And yes, they've moved away from the bubble-gum sound. I'm talking more about the TFC and Kee era. Recent releases go far too much for the current trendy (nu-metal) sound for my taste, and the songs are a bit generic (especially considering the intense impact that their first two releases had), but it's definitely an improvement having John Norum in the band.

Who didnt like the "cheesy-era" back then? ;) Woud rly like them to play some old songs from Total Control, Goran is still doing som cool stuff and he's still got his voice, what a koncert it woud be.

They are close friends, grew up in the same country(And Sweden is f-ing small, i live here.), and they started playing about the same time, so i think that they both influences each other.
