Quit beating up Paul Weller. He was gifted with a brain years ahead of his time. At least he did something with it as apposed to the rest of you. Avant Garde in thought and nature, let's appreciate Paul's contribution to music and be happy that someone can speak the words that have most men running scared. Bravo Paul!
This song still reminds me of the lovely brown eyed lady Im still in love with, wish I could write her name here, but I cant not yet, hopefully I will be able to soon.
I used to be a Dj and i found this song while working at a college radio station in 1984 Great song i will always have this song as for the Jam thats always a town call mallace is one of my favorites
This song and the video has remained refreshing and exciting for me. Imagine back in the '80s I used to record it in a tape recorder from the radio. This is now the age of DVDs and internet. Wow! Real classic. I love it!
Weller, what a range and talent. I remember listening to him as a kid twenty plus years ago. We used to sing this song, trying to win ladies, in the hallways at high school (USA). He stands the test of time. Brilliant.
great song such good soul and loving lyrics,so treat your women rite guys,i know there has been times that i looked back and thougt i just lost a great looking inteligent women, but then its to late, and your left in the wake of your own mistake, peace
Americans have horrible taste in music? That's funny coming from across the water...there is plenty of poor taste to go around. The western landscape has its own perspective. The Jam quality work, but the Style Council? Great name, but the music...there is plenty of American pop that sounds just like this song, of which I'm not bragging...wisdom!
America this, America that. They only had two great songs, that makes it hard to get traction in the market. And before you blame Reagan politics for all this, this band is really the old The Jam which was pro British Empire back in the day. All you 80s bashers, were you anything more than just sperm back then?
The Next best band in the evolution of Paul Weller...The Jam remains number 1 but the body of Style Council's work comes a close second. He has the ear for the RnB/Jazzy feel to this track.....Brilliant!!!!!!!!!
I'm a Conservative and these guys were smokin' during the '80s, but you Ellismortonson are correct, no airtime in a ROCK airwave here. Still, these guys ROCKED!!!!!!!!
Truly timeless tune!! This is such a delight to see and hear, again! Such a sophistication it has! Why is it that these guys weren't any more popular in the US? They exhibit more taste and talent in the introduction of this piece than most of the popular bands did in their entire careers. It has been duly "favorited," And thank you for sharing it with us!
Style Council were never as popular in the US as in the UK because US radio didn't promote them heavily. So many other acts from the "British Invasion" of the 80s, even very poor ones, received a ton more airplay. The average American didn't "get" the music or come close to understanding the politics. It was the Reagan era.. I've always wondered why the bril Squeeze never developed more than a very dedicated cult following in the states.
Cuz most people over here-in the states-had, expecially when the Council were big in the UK, horrible taste, just dont seem to "get it", if that makes sense, overall Americans have horrible taste in music. And considering so much stuff, music, originated here, just doesnt make sense..
I had no idea overall Americans have a horrible taste in music and you are the exception to that.Next time I buy a cd,I'll ask you if an American would buy it or you would buy it.
The Style Council were the Tenessee Williams of pop music in the 80's. Keeps On Burning!

When I first found out who performed this song, I couldn't believe that the lead singer of the Jam sang it.
