Gerbils are alot like people, each one has a different personality. I have two myself. One loves her ball and runs frantically, she seems to like the sound of it rolling. The other sits very still and poops. I always feel so sorry for her, ;). I heart gerbils so much! I want a third!

Gerbils live in packs and get sad and die faster if they live alone. I don't get how you were allowed to buy only one, at least pet shops highly recommend at least two - and might not even let you take just one because it will suffer from it. -_-

I have a gerbil of my own only i have one and i have a blue ball, i don't think he likes it that much and by the looks of it my gerbil ain't the only one that poops in it too much. You can give them balls but ones only designed for them. It's just so cute whatching them run around in it

They will mind all the balls. Gerbil is a hunted animal. When it's afraid, it runs. That's why the balls are moving.

actually a much more significant sign is thumping. A gerbil is a social desert burrower a more likely response to fear of a predator is

-putting ears back,fur fluffed up

-thumping on back feet (used as a warning to other gerbils- Danger!)

-attempted burrowing its bad to run because of the energy used. they would prefer to wriggle down a hole to safety them waste precious energy-and water!

Are you using the right size ball? Most gerbils (unless they're babies) will enjoy the next size up from the smallest. It's a soccer ball size. Also, if you get the Silent Spinner wheel, it's enclosed and does not hurt the feet. I have fat gerbils too and they love both of these products!
