it was the PG USA National showcase where every player is considered a pro prospect. those hitters were legit, he was just throwing 96 mph gas with movement, add in a nice slider.
@ELDoro hmmm... there is no way he could be hitting 100 by that times....plus he has never hit 100 in a major league game...In the majors he throws low-to-mid 90's (90-95)
skillshow is a company that works with perfectgame which is a showcasing company. This video is originally made to show to scouts and college coaches and the slowmo give the scout or coach and easier time looking at his mechanics. Skillshow will take very good mlb players who have been to perfect game showcases and show what they were like in highschool
Definitely not a mindset buddy. I guess you could say that I thought that, then I saw a guy throw mid 90s. Struck my ass out. I bet the money in my pocket I'm better than you, too.
not atm, greinkie from the royals is the al leader, before this nobody heard of him, he has good stuff and he has a decent team now so we will hear about him.
I hate his follow-through in this video. It seems okay until that little whip-back recoil he does after going through his normal arm path. I could stand to see him a little more smooth as well instead of being violent and herky-jerky.
Look, it's fine if you have tremendous stuff, but if you can't stay healthy over 100+ pitches a game for 200+ innings a season then obviously you shouldn't do it. High school you pitch once a week, so you can rear back and fire with everything you've got but to be a durable major league pitcher you have to use your mechanics efficiently. Would you rather he be injured all the time like Mark Prior or Rich Harden?
even so. we see MLB pitchers botch throws to firstbase all the time because they don't throw straight ever. especially in the majors where players can feed off gas with no movement.
In high school, they tell position players to throw 4 seamers to ensure straight outs. Pitchers still want a little movement on their 4 seam fastballs.
this video is filthy.he does everything but get a flat back when hes done pitching. but cmon how did the mets trade this away for victor zambrano and some other no name player.what were they thinking?
It was one of the worst trades in baseball history. The mets passed on so many other trades that would have made sense earlier in the season.
A ton of teams passed on him in the draft also over some contract issues. He was actually the second player from his highschool team to be drafted that year.
What happened was the Mets pitching coach saw video, not Kazmir in live action, of Kazmir and decided that he would eventually shred either his elbow or shoulder to shreds. Couldn't have been much further from the truth.
so because lefties have more movement, the physics of throwing a ball must be different for them as opposed to righties? You're telling me lefties just know how to make their hands slip off the ball and righties don't?
I'm not buying that explanation, though I agree lefties generally seem to get more movement. I'm a lefty myself.
it's because of the stereotypes of baseball and how our brains work. righties are straight up and down, concrete thinkers and proceed to read straight from the book and everything is just like roger clemens, which is what they teach the little kids. as for lefties, we are more abstract and tend to put our own spin on things literally and metaphorically. and plus everyone recognizes our movement. like the UVA pitching coach called me a "different creature" because my four seamer moved so much..
listen he throws it fast but if you wanna see a heat fastball type dellin betances then go to richardhernandez profile then click on his pitching video then you judge if thats fast
Pretty Sure. It looks like the cather set up in, so im thinking he was trying to jam him with a fastball runnning in on his hands. But your right, that pitch was nasty.
you canread his pitches from a mile away, when he throws a fastball his hand goes straight from hanging into the glove to throwing, you can read his offspeed pitch easily too jusgt by seeng how long his hand stays in his glove
PG Jerry, that is some fantastic footage! He was very dominating the following year and I had tyhe chance to see him several times in SAL LEAGUE. He has great arm strength, command and pitchability. Hope he does well this year for TB Rays. peace shep

he looks so much better in this video than he does in the 2008 season.
WHAT HAPPENED!?!?!?!?!?!
His velocity is down from 93-97 to 88-93. His cutter is GONE. His 4 seam is completely straight, and his slider no longer leaves a mouth gaping.
WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED KAZ?!?!?!?
=(
mcshpork 3 years ago
chill
BBcardcollector1952 3 years ago
all i know is his velocity decrease is on purpose. He takes a little off to control his pitches instead of just striking everybody out.

Is it a 2 seam?

mad lefty skills. but seriously, lefty's hands tend to slip off the ball, giving it some run and he prolly understood and took advantage of that.

life, my friend. i am a lefty, and even if i throw straight up 4-seam fastball, it moves cuts out and back in.
