what douche bag was sitting in the stands saying "do something. you got full mount". idiot. thanks for your input, because obviously Andre Galvao doesn't know how to handle himself when he has full mount on someone.
andre took him down like nothing, it was almost sad to watch gomez try to get andre off of mount. Next time try to hip out gomez, that might work a little better than extending your arms : /

Aoki is interesting to watch and a great grappler but I really dont consider him a top 5 lightweight. Let's face it, he's scared to get hit! How far can a fighter go who is unwilling to trade strikes?
Rankings are pointless nowadays but I'll pick Hansen, JZ, Penn, Florian, Kawajiri, Diego Sanchez just to name a few over Aoki.
Point is, well-rounded fighters are the future, pure grapplers are the past.
Well rounded fighters are a "big part" of the future but specialists (grappling wizards) will always have a seat at the MMA table. You pick Hansen and JZ over Aoki??? did you not see Aoki beat both of them?

I don't want to hate on him. I love BJJ and know his credentials. But MMA has evolved too far for one-dimensional fighters to still compete at the very top level.
Anderson Silva could teach him all he knows and it wouldn't make a difference. It's genetic, God-given talent. Silva has it, Galvao doesn't. Period.
Agreed, whether he is one dimensional or not has nothing to with the fact that has opponents look lost on the ground with him and keep from going to the ground.
agreed! Aoki, Damian Maia, Hazelett throw very few punches and find a way to take it to the mat, submit their opponets and finish/submit much better punchers.
Andre Galvao is a world class bjj black belt. He competes as a black belt, in his weight class and the absolute division, at the mundials which is the super bowl and world series of jiu jitsu. Training with the Nogeiras and Anderson Silva he can absolutely compete in top mma organizations.
demian maia comes from the same exact background, training, pedigree, skillset, etc. Total bjj guy, terrible hands, but still currently kicking ass in UFC.
André Galvão submits Mikey Gomez by Armbar in Round 1 at Ontarios first sanctioned professional MMA event "Fight Spirit Championship". Andre Galvao was accomponied by the one and only Anderson "Spider" Silva as his corner. We will be seeing this guy quickly make his way up to the elite level of competition. Enjoy folks.
Andre Galvao, an elite of the elite BJJ practitioner but average MMA fighter.

OK, two things. Can you please not tell me how the fight ends before I get to watch it? I mean, c'mon. Seriously.
Second, this guy will NEVER be an elite mixed martial artist. Respect his BJJ but he has no hands and that just won't cut it against real contenders.
I don't know who this bum is that he beat but you're crazy if you think this guy Galvao will ever be a champ in any respectable organization.

The crowd was intent on not missing a detail.
And Anderson and the corner guys were shouting encouragement and instructions. No one wanted to interrupt.
