  • Was that Harrison Ford @1:33 ?

  • I saw the cake gage coming up, I saw the silly play-something-different gag, I completely missed the Japanese garden gag--

  • Norberg is played by peter lupus from mission impossible, isn't?

  • OH man the whole scene where there playing basket ball lol

  • RIP Leslie, you were great fun.

  • "Oh, Frank, the pate is exquisite..."

  • Notice how there's a sax player at the birthday party, yet there's nothing coming out of it at all before they ask the band to play something else?

  • Japanese garden! Bwahaha!

  • Fellas, can you play Something Different...

    "Something different oooohhh

    Bithday wishes to you"

  • Only SIX episodes this series ran.

Just goes to proves the NET EXEC job has always been run by monkeys

  • me and my friend used to watch this almost every day! Leslie Nielsen, may your comedic genius last for ever...... or at least until I start the new generation of police squad.

  • omg japanese garden so mess up but so funny

  • scene of the abduction

  • Hahaha, try turning the text on. Even funnier than the show it self !

  • What time did the first train leave?

  • Luitenant Drebin what do I do ??

Well, as far as I remember you were in the textile business

  • "...it was tied to this window and thrown into the rock garden..."

  • How the hell did this show only make it six episodes?? RIP Leslie Nielsen =(

  • @EastmontGirl13 It was cancelled because the network broadcaster felt the humour was of too intelligent a level for its average audience demographic. I kid you not. RIP Leslie Nielsen

  • @Gazzar The writers were later thankful; they were not confident they could keep up this level of comedy for long enough.

  • @Azashio I agree...but even with its short run, it became a classic that will probably never be duplicated. Despite Leslie Neilson's long career, this is probably the show that made him immortal.

  • Don't you love how they keep on partying after Terry's kidnapped? lol

  • winning

  • I have to ask... is the "In Color" announcement added seriously, or out of the quentissential Nielsen silliness?

I laughed when it was announced.. :)

  • @SEBBARU i think it was a habit in the 60's when color was a new thing in TV so every new show has "IN COLOR!!!" announced after the title, as it was when the Zucker brothers were growing up im sure they just had to add it to their show as well

  • @SEBBARU

    Out of the "quintessential silliness".

  • @SEBBARU out of a sense of silliness :-)

  • The guest stars die even without getting in the script LOL

  • Anyone else notice that at 0:14 Frank's being shot at from the right, but he shots to the left?! XD

  • "Why would the lab demand a million dollars?"

"The kidnappers made the demand, Frank."

  • God I miss Leslie :'(

I always hoped he would do one last great satirous movie before his death.

  • japanese garden hahahaha

  • Keep an eye out for the ear.

  • Japanese garden. ROFL. xD

  • I remember when this show came out & thinking that it was the absolute hippest show around. Hard to believe it was back in 82 - talk about brilliant but canceled.

  • Angels must be having a hard time keeping a straight face now...

  • I love how Frank can't park his car without knocking something over.

  • @smichelle65 It's a running gag in the show, another one I thought was funny is that the 'Police Squad' written on Frank's office door is written so that whatever side you're standing on, one word will be spelled backward.

  • @smichelle65 That's the running (or rather falling) joke - the number of the objects he hits is the same as the no. of the episode

  • Japanese garden! Epic!

  • @ChuntiChuntaro I love that joke.

  • Friggin awesome

  • Not the whole of course, just a piece of it lol

  • Comment removed

  • Why would the lab demand a million dollars? LOL

  • Oh and Mrs Burton...what time did the first train leave? haha ha

  • man if only this was longer than 6 episodes.

  • "Why would the lab demand $1 million dollars?" lol

  • r.i.p there is not and never be another like him.

  • @rapingurchurches ...King of the deadpan....Bet he never thought his career would never take this dramatic of a turn.....RIP Leslie...will be missed forever

  • ransom note tied to a window and thrown into a rock garden... love it. I wish there were tv series like this on today.

  • Tap on the phone lol.

  • TMQ! And RIP Leslie, we'll miss yah.

  • Sgt. Frank Drebin, Lt., Police Squad LOL

RIP Leslie. Thanks for the gut wrenching laughs, you'll be missed.

  • RIP Leslie.

  • TMQ.

  • TMQ. I love Rex Hamilton's performance as Abraham Lincoln

  • TMQ!

  • "My name is Sergeant Frank Drebin lieutenant detective"

    hahaha

    best show ever by far

  • I just realized Leslies hands at the end of this segment

    10:15 to EOT

    hahahahahah

  • @Burnsengine And what's with all the cars in the background being 1940's models?

  • I love how this segment ends. "That's enough," and then it's immediately over.

  • Mrs. Burton looks like Barbara Feldon. Is it just me?

  • 10:08

  • "When Terri's ear comes, I'll handle it."

  • norberg became a muderer

  • Pretty awesome stuff. Wish they still made TV like this.

  • R.I.P. Leslie. You will be missed.

  • why can't americans 'get' irony or sarcasm?

  • @davidrubiomartin

    I'm sorry?

  • Classic!!!

  • Leslie Neilsen R.I.P.

  • the japanese garden LOL

  • "The ransom note was tied to the window and thrown into the rock garden" :D

  • Isn't that Clark Kent's mom...

  • I thought nordberg was black :S haha

  • @totalyruben In the movie he was.

  • "I'll keep an eye out for the ear." LOL

  • Are those of us who love this kind of comedy a minority? I heard excuses that people did not want to think or pay too much attention during prime time shows, and that's why the show only lasted one season. It's probably the same people who today love idiotic shows like American Idol. That's too bad. Leslie will be missed, and the Zucker Brothers and Jim Abrahams set the bar very high for outstanding comedy.

  • Why would the lab demand a million dollars?

  • I can't believe it! Leslie Nielsen died! Rust In Peace master of humor!!

  • Rest In Peace, one of the funniest Canadian actors ever, if not the funniest in the world!

  • @sirstrongbad best canadian person ever

  • Comment removed

  • R.I.P. Leslie Nielsen. You were probably the funniest man in the world.

  • @samHBDH Shirley Frank Drebbin cant be dead ?

  • @samHBDH No! He was definitely the funniest man in the world.

  • 3:15 LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL....lol.

  • A monkey wearing a suit and a hat!!! I think this is my kind of show :-D

  • Why they only made 6 episodes??? It's absolutely fantastic!!!!

  • @vandergraaf78 despite the success of airplane, tv audiences didnt get the deadpan humor...ratings were terrible

good thing for the producers and nielson though...they turned the concept into the naked gun franchise

they just made the humor more broad

and nielson made a hell of alot more money from the movies

  • @brabon1 I remember seeing some interview with Nielsen where he said that he thinks that Police Squad bombed because to get the jokes the viewer has to pay really close attention, and people usually don't watch TV all that closely but just kind of keep it on in the background. In the cinema the movie gets your full attention if you're not sitting next to anyone attractive, and that's why the Naked Gun movies were so much more successful despite being essentially the same thing.

  • @Saisinkolimonadin well, i loved the show and was shocked when it bombed

and naked gun was much more over the top

  • I was 3 years old when this was on TV, it is just incredibly funny and fine art...

  • LMAO@Japanese garden. I remember this gem. They cancelled all the good stuff.

And left us with "Who's The Boss" and "Happy Days"

    Eyuckk.

  • @cuttock Network execs are bland idiots with no vision, zero creativity, and take zero risks. They are basically glorified accountants that kill innovation.

That's why shows like this one, Lookwell (Conan O'brien & Adam West), Arrested Development, FlashForward, Better off Ted, Freaks and Geeks (James Franco, Seth Rogan, Jason Segal and Judd Apatow!), Kyle XY, Tonight show with Conan, Aliens in America, Family Guy & Heroes all got cancelled! (This reads like a list of the best shows ever made!)

  • @beliha

Don't forget that hilarious show, No Soap Radio and another kooky sitcom about the west, Best of the West.

  • @beliha Adam West and Conan O Brian were in a SHOW together?!?!?! Why have I never heard of this?!?!??

  • @dollors1 Sorry I should clarify! It was written by Conan O'Brien, and Starred Adam West!!

Sorry it took so long to respons, as you might or might not know, Internet was blocked here in Egypt for the past little while!

  • Watched this in Law class a few weeks ago. At first i found it stupid. Then i found it stupidly FUNNY. It's one of the greatest shows I've seen.

  • THIS HILARIOUS

  • classic!!

  • norgberg was white in this huh

  • @Darkphoenix588

And he did not murder his wife in real life! LoL

  • love the cake blowout lol

  • "...oh, and Mrs Burton, what time did the first train leave?" - lol

  • I can`t believe how good Florence Henderson is in this. "-Becuse it`s too far to walk....hello?...hello?..."

  • Keep an eye out for the ear! This show was THE FUNNIEST! As for the reason it was canceled, ABC explained, and I quote, "People had to pay attention." It was because of all the gags! What a LAME excuse to cancel a show!

  • Nordberg, put a tap on the phone.

Peter Lupus puts a beer tap on the phone! LMAO!

  • "Why would the lab demand a million dollars?"

The kidnappers made the demand, Frank."

  • the party keeps ongoing while their daughter was kidnapped

  • wow! where i live has a Japanese garden but its not half as cool as that one :D

  • I love it!

  • japaneese garden hahahahaha

  • Oh man, this is too funny. I can't believe how much this is making me laugh. Comedy Gold~

  • Everything Jim Abrahams and The Zucker Brothers touch turns to awesome. And Leslie Nielsen just plain rocks.

  • The puns! The innuendo!!.....the Awesomeness lol

  • Japanese garden! Haha! That is genious writing right there!

  • I guess they didn't want to pay for the rights to the real Happy Birthday (someone actually owns them).

  • @TheLastBrainLeft -For the English version (The one on youtube) -of the "Testimony of Evil" episode where Frank goes undercover as nightclub singer Tony DeWonderful they had him overdub his original Judy Garland songs with nonsense songs so his mouth still looked in sync.-Presumably for overseas copyright issues. They even overdudubbed the radio song for Nordberg`s "Hey! These guys are incredible!" to sound almost the same as the original when he sings along with it.

  • Tap on the phone!!! CLASSIC!!!

  • I want a japaneese garden too! lol.. just finished watching the dvd :) Great stuff

  • DVD?! May I ask where you got that?? I'd love the DVD! All I have is a video cassette. That & YouTube...

  • Found it in local dvd store, all 6 episodes onit, have a hunt on ebay :)

  • this is great, the 1980's were not ready for this series, i mean its hilarious...like a non cartoon family guy(you know what i mean)

  • so true! this series is way ahead of its time!

  • The kidnapper phone call was hilarious! XD

  • and Rex Hamilton as Abraham Lincoln hahahaha

  • The Japanese garden almost made me piss myself. Hysterical.

  • such a shame that this didn't go for more than one season... suppose most people just didn't appreciate the brand of comedy

  • Amazing, after all thses years I just spot the onscreen gag where he pulls of the Japanese guys lapel (rose off the bush)

  • lmao japanese garden

  • @ 4:15.....hahahahaha

  • ... And, when this whole thing blows over, we'll return Terri's ear, if she's still alive.

  • Holy crap on a stick! Norberg's white!!! 6:11

  • For rokridge--if you're asking about the girl who played Terri, her name was Lilibet Stern. Her claim to fame was that she originated the role of Patty Williams on The Young and the Restless back in the mid 80s, about the same time as Police Squad! was on the air. Not sure why she didn't become a star though. Hope that helps!

  • The Intros always funny with them eliminating the guest star and blowing the plot with the actual title.

  • The curious thing is that Robert Goulet would play the villain in "The Naked Gun - 2 1/2" later.

  • Playing basketball while investigeting a suspect, LOLXD

Was Nordberg a white guy in this series! O.J did a much better job in the movies=)

    "That´s enough" at 10:59, great timing=)

  • 10:09 so funny

  • Lolol

  • Japanese garden lol.

  • That gag was so silly I almost blew crackers all over my monitor. Never eat while watching this show.

  • @Boleniana

That would go over like a lead balloon today. (*sigh*)

I miss the good, ole days when we could make fun of each other for purely superficial reasons!!

    I hate p.c.

Nielsen was brilliant... so was Zucker. G'nite Leslie.

  • Timing is impeccable at 10:59!!

    'Thats enough'! Haha

  • The boyfriend was in, I think, Airplane 2: The Sequel, at the end cutting himself while he was shaving. Putting on the Aqua Velva was one of the few funny parts of that movie.

  • not a single comment about that impossible beutiful girl! is it just me? I mean who is she and why didnt she make it as a star?

  • tied to this window, and thrown in the rock garden!!!!! hahahahahhaahahahhahahha lmfao!!

  • Also a very cool thing is how the gunshots sounds in these old 80s films, series... :)

  • the call from dispatch rofl

  • and Rex Hamilton as...Abraham Lincoln!

  • I love the title "The Butler did It"

  • butler really did it ;p

  • just to ask, in all those intros with the guest stars, did they really get killed?

  • Two or three. But most suffered only flesh wounds and were back to work in no time.

  • I love the intro. XD

  • great japanese garden

  • great

  • 7:23 so silly but god so funny.

  • I want a Japanese garden too!

  • Japanese Garden LMFAO

  • my friend felt discrimated when he saw the jappenese garden!lol

  • the "phone tap"

  • I love Johnny the Shoeshine!

  • The Japanese garden!!!

  • Can you play "Something Different"?? LMAO!!!

  • im crying im lauging so hard. i forgot about that. i wonder what the lyrics are.

  • Something different...oooooo

    Birthday wishes to you...

    ...........

    We are rooting for you!

Something like that. I forgot the third line! I came here just for that song!

  • a big pretty cake (something) i think?

  • Did they already make Airplane, or did it come after this?

  • Airplane was first, then the 6 episodes of Police Squad, then the Naked Gun movies, iirc.

  • Yeah, I thought so. Yeah, you'd have to have that succes in order for this to pass. People would not have gotten this shows excelence, or the vile guest star death opening bits. People might have complained about that.

I wish they made more of this though.

  • umm people weren't idiots 25 years ago. they would have "gotten" this show's excellence, jsut as they appreciated airplaine's excellence.

  • I agree! What a dumb comment!

  • things can be ahead of time

do you think life of brian would be a hit today?

things have to come out at the right time this was too ahead of its time

  • @mwilson345 we also wernt one hundread percent pro wrestling was fake yet i 82 but how wonderful it was then i woul give anything to go back...

  • @mwilson345 I was around 25 years ago and we were SO idiots. Hell, look at the hairstyles, the music - we had to be morons! Anyway, the reason given by the show's creator was a joke. Obviously no one got that one either.

  • @mwilson345 Amen.

  • Wow. O.J. Simpson was a whole lot less black back then.
