But this version was too convoluted and slow. They would have done better to focus more in the important events and not dragged out so much of the nonsense.
There are no words for this, and I'm so very grateful to you @bloodywidow69, because you found some time (a lot of time, actually) and posted this series. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I love Dickens and this made me read the book all over again. :-)
i don't know why i am watching this on youtube i have it on dvd. i think it is my all time fav film. i have a thing for victorian era dramas. charles dickens is a genius and oliver twist is by far the greatest of all. he wrote it on his experiences in the workhouse and most of the characters were based on people he knew and met. what a masterpiece this version is.
i'm so happy edward ended up having a normal life! i think that's my favorite adaptation, although i would prefer dodger to be a teenager as in the book and rose more sweet and friendly to oliver!
Hmm, I think this might be my favorite adaptation after all, even with the (in my opinion) somewhat mangled version of Dodger. Everyone else was brilliant. Of course, my heart remains especially loyal to Oliver and Edward. :D
@kathzyna My heart also goes out to Edward, the half brother of Oliver. Abused by a sadistic Mother & neglected by his Father. " Anything less than nourishing, means,...child-abuse. " The neglect of the Father not caring seemed to affect him more than his murderous Mother. They took alot of liberties with the 'Prequel' in the rewrite of this version but,...WELL Done !! Who would have thought, that Dickens was an anti-semite ?! The Jewish Fagen became a more,...?...human character. Many thanx
@Ice Storrm: Do you mean Charlie Bates? In this version, he becomes a servant alongside Giles and Brittles in Mr. Brownlow's household. We can see this at Rose and Dr. Losberne's wedding where Giles is straightening Charlie's coat, whose outfit is the same as his.
Awww i'm glad it all worked out for Oliver in the end :( No child should ever go through what he went through. Plus Sam Smith was such a cutie pie :D. I just wanted to give him a big hug :) :(. Best adaption of Oliver Twist i have ever seen; acting is amazing too.
What an absolute treat and delight that was. Stayed up all night, half a bottle of Glenfiddich later and i'm as drunk as Bill Sykes. The wife won't be very impressed and i'll be in the dog house, but it was so worth it! Thank you again bloodywidow69 .... X

does anybody know what happened to Bet after all this cause I kinda feel sorry her. she just lost her matee nancy :( I CRIED AT THT BIT. BUT SHE HARDLY HAD ANY LINES WHICH I WAS QUITE DISSAPOINTED WITH CAUSE IT'S ISLA FISHER. THE WOMEN WHO PLAYED NANCY ROCKED MY SOCKSX
Loved this version when it finally aired here in the states. Very powerful and entertaining series. Thanks ever so much for uploading and maintaining this Bloodywidow69! I had a Dickens of a time finding it, but my perseverance paid off finally by locating your channel. You're a gem.
Ultimately, I was disappointed in this truncated vesion of the classic novel. The following is a liberty which really irked me: In the novel: Rose intereacts more with Oliver. In the mini-series: Rose barely spoke with Oliver; in addition, there was hardly any emotion when a secret involving both of them was revealed.
Yay! Edward found his true love and Charlie is a good guy! Nothing like happy endings to make one's day. :') I think i need a kleenex.

Incredible film.
I suppose some parts could've been better, but overall it was fantastic.
Dickens finished this when he was 26 ?
Amazing. Especially for the plot.

I think Baker is wrong. I believe there are more film adaptations of "A Christmas Carol" than of "Oliver Twist".
