  • Ford Lightnings rock!! I have a silver '01 with black rims and upgraded air intake and exhaust. Im at about 325hp. Im looking to get a whipple supercharger when I have the money. The SRT4 is ok. I think its ugly myself and slow off the line.

Yes, it may take 18-20 psi, but we also have 4 less cylinders and cranking out 230 horse stock and with a simple tune and a cold air intake can get over 300 horse. Also, who gives a rats ass how light something is? You can put a Hybusa motor in a smart car and wax a Ferarri and it weighs nothing... Ford guys are so simple minded. :D

  • @stairmaster3001 Let me clarify for you since you apparently need it, The fastest a stock displacement engine SRT4 will run is in the 11's. My Mustang runs in the high 12's low 13's on a naturally aspirated 2v 4.6 with stock internals.

  • @Jaes2KGT so u have double the displacement and cylinders than i do. my run was with dry rotted street tires.....gimmie some 10 inch slicks and ill be running 13 flats al day. and btw nigel alexander ran 10.24 in the 1/4 with stock bottom end...it is still a 2.4 Liter engine.

Then again, I have owned several from Contour SVT's to Mustangs to a Lincoln MKX. I won't buy a GM product is because I know a GM powertrain engineer that drives an F350 and my brother works for EDS who programs GM vehicle software and has tried for years to copy Ford's fuel injection programming. As For Chrysler, I owned one, and never will again.

  • @Jaes2KGT I've had several other Fords throughout the years, a Mustang, a Taurus, a Windstar, and even a Mercury or two. All loaded to the max with options. I actually like the Ranger the best out of them all! Once I went Jap though, I never went back. I've just had alot better luck as far as quality is concerned. To each their own though. It's all one's opinion. As long as you're happy with your car, who cares what it is, right?

  • @FreedomTeam6 Because whats meant by that is by having a larger engine you can generate more low end torque with much more reliability, lots of my friends drive DSM's and shit and they crank 30 psi in their cars and make the same power as my supercharged mustang but they also rebuild their shit every month almost and ive got around 50,000 miles on my supercharged motor with not a single problem, so can tuners make the power? sure...but its not as reliable is all

  • @jknif35 Actually my good friend owns his own performance shop, not guna say the name cuz he does good work and i dont wana discredit him but his shop got a brand new evo as a demo car and after doing some engine work and tune they made 430hp 380 ft lbs on their dyno and blew the engine just 2 weeks later. Evo and STI are great cars and more reliable but you just cant push those engines to high HP's and expect them to last for years

But people run 600-700 hp evo's as daily drivers for years. 400-500 whp evo's are even more common and require no more maintenance than a stock car really. If your friend blew that car up on 430 whp, then he doesn't need to be tuning an Evo. Period. Most evo's on the road are at that range and they don't blow up in two weeks haha. you shouldn't work on things if you don't know how to tune them of course they will blow up.

  • @jknif35 i dont know what kind of experience you have with engines...but look i promise you it cant happen...either do it yourself and show me or find someone because EVERY person ive talked to met or worked with who had an evo, sti, eclipse, honda, acura etc who tried to make big power had issues and broke stuff very often, do you have any idea how much boost, fuel and timing it takes for a 4 cylinder to make 700hp?..let me just say if you get that engine to last 25,000 miles your jesus himself

Just took my EVO to mellon racing in mississippi. he has a 720 whp car he DAILY DRIVES and has for years.(2006) idles like a stock want if he wants it to lol. But this is coming from a guy who "doesn't have experience with engines"

  • @jknif35 ok heres my point tho, the thing about cars that make their power from boost is when you drive em around town nice and easy and never even get into boost your running on about 200hp or less the only time that engine makes 720hp is for about half a second at the top of the rpm band with 35psi like you said so yeah he can have a car capable of it and drive around nice and easy no problem but he CANNOT rip on that car day in and day out like you could a NA V8 making 700 hp...always breaks

  • @Chadb89 im sorry man i just disagree. you can make 600 awhp on a stock evo bottom end all day long. you're gonna have to build the guts out of the stang motor. That being said, the mustang is much less reliable than the stock motor evo in that case to me. Everyone is different i guess. His evo is daily driven 20+ mpg and over well over 600 awhp on pump gas 93 octane. the motor is moderately built but is still a 2.0 at the end of the day. And he rips the car plenty :)

  • @jknif35 but the bottom end isnt whats the problem, the problem is if you want to squeeze 150hp + out of each piston its guna take an insane amount of abuse, the rods, bearings, and other internals are guna have to be beefed the hell up, a stock anything is reliable and how does that make sense....you can make 600hp on a V8 with less mods than a inline 4 so saying youd have to build the shit out of it compared to the evo doesnt make much sense to me.

  • @Chadb89 if youre talking about building a v8 n/a then you will certainly build it more than the evo. if youre going blown v8 you still need a stand alone return fuel system and not to mention a massive blower set up. All the evo needs really is a big turbo kit, e85, and injectors, and a 70$ fuel pump lol @35psi. No motor build really needed i mean yeah it would last longer but the stock set up would hold out just fine. Maybe a set of head studs and retainers for the cams.

  • @jknif35 Ok i just realized you dont know what your talking about....i have a 97 GT mustang with a vortech blower at 8-9 psi on stock fuel injectors, stock ignition and stock internals making 410 hp now with the stage 2 meth kit bigger injectors and advancing the timing a little bit il be at 530 ish depending on a few things, and thats it, if you think you can put a big turbo and injectors on an evo and make 700hp reliably your insane dude have fun doing that...35psi on stock internals will blow

  • @Chadb89 I promise you a stock evo 9 with bigger injectors, gt35r turbo kit, e85, and walbro pump, the obvious bolt ons, and maybe some cams just to lope :) will make 650-700 hp. i will side with you and say some head studs would do the car some good but the stock bottom end would hold it.....mellon tuning made 790 awhp and DD's his. It has upgraded internals but thats basically 800 whp. the 550-700 region is doable but i will say 700 hp is on the upper limits of the motor without a build

  • my point is you have a vortech on a gt with some bolt ons..... its a v8 blown car. I have an evo stock motor stock turbo that would walk it haha. Not talking shit just saying its cheaper to mod and don't even tell me that you think the stock gt block will hold more than an evo without a built motor lol

  • @jknif35 dude both ways 600hp is awesome. Im just saying a 600 hp evo honestly is just as safe and driveable and arguably more than a v8. I have two friends with ~650whp kb cobras who drive then alot but not DD. The guy who tuned my car has a 700whp evo he drove everyday for years and got 18-20 mpg.

    my friend built his Evo to make 700awhp with his own hands and never has had an issue. he is now running low 10's on e85 and he daily drives it on 93octane getting about 24mpg.

    full weight with a small audio system, and ice cold a/c. he bought the car with 13k miles...... his current setup has been reliable for the last 40k miles. the car now has 64k miles.....

    and its on the original stock motor

  • @rotor13 Dude this is pointless, for one stop saying stock motor, is it the original BLOCK (shell) sure but internals to the ying yang are forged and built to make 700 hp and btw E85 holds more moisture than gasoline and it eats through steel fuel lines quickly so i hope he enjoys that....and ask your friend everything hes had to do to maintain that car cuz if he beats on it at all basic oil changes wont be enough. anyone with a 700hp car can puttz around and make the car last.

  • @Chadb89 my buddy is running stock internals. the only mods are in the head.

    e85 ONLY absorbs moisture if it sits for too long. and he has extensive fuel mods any way including a proefi 128 with flex fuel system.

    e85 does not eat through steel. it eats aluminum. and its not as corrosive as you have been made to think.

  • @rotor13 Look it up the moisture rusts the fuel lines from the inside out unless you replace em all, it literally says it if you look it up....gasoline diesel they all absorb moisture but E85 does it more than them all, flex fuel vehicles have diff fuel lines.....700hp on stock crank rods and pistons is bullshit

  • @Chadb89 car built after the late 90's have their fuel systems treated with anti corrosion processes and coatings built in.

    MANY people have tested the corrosive nature of ethanol..... taking a hardline or hose fuel line and letting it sit over the course of 3 weeks... no rust, no pitting, no etching, rubber not eaten away.

    The misconception is that you NEED to upgrade your fuel system.... you dont. you just need a recalibration of the ECU.

  • @Chadb89 And you can call bullshit on my buddies stock bottom end Evo9 making 700hp all you want all day and night.... but there are PLENTY of videos out there of stock block evos pulling between 500-800hp on stock bottom ends with nothing more than mild headwork and decently thick headgasket.

    AND he makes the 700hp running 37psi of boost on a 6262.

  • @Chadb89 Diesel is not at all corrosive..... the additives in diesel, which are mostly lubrication and sulfur reducers makes it impossible for diesel to rust.

    i've had diesel sit in my grandfathers truck for almost 2 years because he was restricted to a wheel chair, and the only BAD thing that happened was that it took about 10 cranks to start up. and had NO issues pushing the 60+ psi it was modified to.

  • @Chadb89 just get your head outta your ass and do the research for yourself..... forget the "lab tests" and pay attention to the REAL WORLD tests. because you forget, people talk about ethanol and its corrosiveness with PURE ethanol.... it has completely different properties when mixed with 15% gasoline.

  • @Chadb89 the problem is not the displacement.... its the tune..... if your friends' dsm's are getting rebuilt every month then something is TERRIBLY wrong with either their parts selection and/or their tuning.

    i've had my FD rx7 making 450hp/380tq on 93 for the last 2 years logging in about 25k miles and not one problem at all.

    a comment like yours is a two-way street. just because what you see as small is less, can also mean that big is less to someone else, its all in the experience as well

  • @rotor13 thats all well and fine but this other guy is saying a 700hp evo is a daily driver you can woop on and still get 30,000 miles out of AT LEAST .... im calling bullshit...Buschur racing out of ohio the guys who HOST the DSM shootout has had their car at the track the last 3 years ive gone and every year it breaks after 5 or 6 runs and it made 730 hp one year and 800 somthing the following two, my point?..They are a PERFORMANCE TUNING SHOP if it happens to them it will happen 2 u
