  • This is a great video

  • United Is Now Merged With Continental

  • @Timbrock1000 you said "Two lousey dollar". My friend, its more than Two Lousey dollar. Is the retirement, health benefits , and 25 year or hard work. Have those $2.00 from each passenger send to an employee PGBC. I can assure you that will make a difference. Then I will be able to relax.

  • i wish they had:

1: music in their commercials like this

    2: never merged with continenental

    3: kept the battleship livery

    thumbs up if you agree

  • look good commercial

  • u broke dave's guitar

  • Has anyone flown on United Airlines before. I wonder if United will return to Evansville. I think they'll be planning for a non-stop flights from Chicago O'Hare to Evansville.

  • I got to tell you, United Airlines makes some great commercials, especially with Gene Hackman announcing. If only United can return to the airline they were always known as: flying the FRIENDLY skies. Not the Hostile Skies. Friendly. If they do that, a lot of people will love United again.

  • Come fly the friendly sky's..and enjoy the service that only 78 year old hostesses can provide...

  • Mr Timbrock you almost forgot. And the Top executives bonuses that have to be paid. Yeah... guess who pays for that?

  • @Bori96 Yes, I hear you. Us passengers pay for the top CEO's bonuses. But consider this, let's say UAL's CEO gets a $100 million bonus. Last year, UAL flew some 49.4 million passengers. So, divide the $100 million bonus amoung all (rounded up to) 50 million passengers... that means about $2 from each ticket sold went to the bonus of the CEO. Two lousey dollars, that's all! What can $2 buy? A hamburger? $2 from a typical ticket costing $300 is peanuts. Hardly something to worry about. relax!

  • @Timbrock1000 But getting $2 from each of every 50 million passengers is ridiculous! 100 million dollars????

  • My love is United Airlines

  • An airline is about the most expensive, complicated AND difficult businesses to run. Theres volitle fuel costs, fierce competition, strict government regulations, it's labor /maintaince intensive, requires tremondous capitol (money), requires dealing with labor unions, and local or widespread weather can play havoc with the timetables and deadlines as well as those of the passengers. Just something to ponder as you sit in your coach, business class or first class seat and gaze out the window.

  • @Timbrock1000 I'd rather just ponder the beauty of our great planet from FL350 and the amazing science and aerodynamics in play to keep us hurling through the lower levels of our atmosphere at 500 MPH while I'm gazing out the window......

  • Gene Hackman was a great spokesman for United. Gene should have asked DOUBLE what they paid him, he was worth every penny of it. United squandered the good will he generated in those ads. United squandered everything they ever built by going into bankruptcy needlessly. United lost the ability to hedge fuel purchases and paid bankruptcy lawyers over $400 million dollars. Madness....madness I tell you, madness!

  • I love United Air Lines! They are the airline that shown me the world!

  • Best part of this airline spot is the music. :) Used to be a nice event to fly. Now it just sucks. Some pervert frisking you at the airport. They took my pen knife away from me. But mad bombers still get on board.

  • Come fly the friendly went bankrupt friendly skies.

  • I remember when it was fun to travel. When airlines gave you free earphones, blankets, full meals, drinks whenever you asked, and your family could come onto the plane, get you seated, say goodbye, and head off the plane to the terminal. Those were the good ol' days.

  • @LaurelsAppaloosas And now, people only demand flights for nothing, and all the service of a five star restaurant for pennies.

The fault for this stems from the flying public, No one wants to pay anything but they want to get everything. Airline tickets (with inflation taken into account) are more than 10% cheaper than they were 10 years ago. You want luxuries, Pay for it. Flying used to be a special thing, now i see people boarding airplanes in clothes you wouldn't wear in a Taxi cab.

  • @MyleneJ Agreed. So Sad :(

  • even if in a current continental employee i really liked this old commercial from back in the day. So for now we just have to see how it goes wish us luck

  • United are the best my mum works for united

  • United: BRING BACK THE FRICKIN' TULIP!!

  • @TheOdysseyKid GENE HACKMAN!!

  • No more UA shield logo on tail (-; But I must at least admit their new combined CO looks quite nice! Nonetheless, I miss the good ole days!

  • Comment removed

  • oh god united, my opinion 2 of the worst airlines merged. poor united airlines

  • That United 747 is an ICON! Miss the old United...

  • Creepy commercial...

  • I have to say that I'd rather hear just about ANY different theme song than the worn out Rhapsody In Bad Service they have been playing for 25 years. It is SO BORING, so monotonous, so worn out, so pathetically overplayed that I will do anything to shut it off when I hear it.

Worse yet, it is associated with the horrible service, cramped seating, pay-for-food, late flights, canceled flights, and all the other nightmares associated with flying United. But nothing is as bad as the theme song.

  • @mooninsantacruz I love how people seem to pick the same Outdated, or just plain wrong things to say about United. late flights? HAH, United for the past 2+ years has been ranked number 1 in on-time arrivals out of all major carriers operating within the United States. Pay-For-Food.. because you should be able to walk into a restaurant and get a meal for free just because you feel like it right, want "free" food, stop wanting to pay 20 bucks for a cross country ticket.

  • @MyleneJ Well, that's just a very poor measure of performance because all the major carriers are horrible. Hawaiian Air holds the nation's on time performance as well as safety record, but when you lower the bar to the major carriers you have to really hold your nose.

As a 32 year airline pilot who commutes to work in the Middle East and has flown United for a very long time I can tell you how degraded the airline has become; it's no wonder they had to sell themselves to Continental.

  • @mooninsantacruz Really? Sell themselves? Do you even read or pay attention the situation going on, after Delta merged with Northwest and voided the contract holding Continental in Skyteam. CAL -bolted- for STAR Neither Airline "sold themselves" to the other. If you want to hate something, at least hate the facts, not made up crap.

  • Respond to this video... The shameful part about the sale was using the UAL name. And the worn carpet of a theme song. God. The poor employees of CAL have had to bear this beating after having a far better performance record. You are right however, deregulation is responsible for most of the crappy service and no meals and cramped seats. Blame Lorenzo for getting that rolling. I just hope UAL decides to climb above the Ryanair image they are getting.

  • commercials like this make me sad that the tulip is a memory

  • Ah.......United commercials the way I remember them.

  • Comment removed

  • I'll miss the Tulip. I want to tear up watching this commercial.

  • These years came into United's complete downfall.

Yes, more cities, more destinations and an additional batch of aircraft are nice, but missing those glory days where we once had friendly FAs such as "Nancy", is just plain dumb.

  • @ThreeSevenSpeedway and merging with continental, which is the rudest airline ive evr flown out of about 10 other airlines

i think its too late to come back

  • @djingle777 An airline can be rude?

  • I am so glad they are keeping the United name after the merger! I will always fly the friendly skies of United!!

  • foxh8er..at this rate we will soon see United Airlines merge with American Airlines before you know it....

  • chicaago run dis!

  • PERUVIAN AIRLINES IS THE BEST AIRLINE IN PERU

  • great commercial!!! is that gene hackman's voice i hear?

  • @Airlineguy29 yes it is!

  • I flew on United when I moved to the USA from Brazil....

  • I worked on the UAL account while at Leo Burnett. I remember that this was a very difficult spot to produce. Today you could do it on your laptop!

  • I'll miss the tulip! :( why do you have to replace it with that ugly globe!

  • I liked the delta commercial better.

  • Uniteds 90s and 2000s colors suck The 80s colors were the best

  • @RickMakesGoodVideos You know what livery is gonna suck more? The ones from when United merges with Continental.

  • Come fly the friendly skies

  • United WILL stand! Hell yeah!!!

  • It's Gene Hackman and jdqksilvr is correct as well

  • Who is the artist and what is the name of the piano song at the end of the commercial. Ive been trying to figure this out all day. I think its Chopin but I don't know the name of the song. I just remember it on these commercials from when I was younger.

  • It's George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.

  • Comment removed

  • remember people, never check guitars on united!!! =D

  • Gene Hackman on that voice over.

  • One of the worst airline. If you ever or will fly United ,please packed your own foods.

  • What do you expect when you fly on a plane..its microwave food. =)

  • sames as United Airlines Arrival Video

  • Oh how I hope one day United can return to its former glory.

  • @crackaddict444 Once the United/Continental merger is complete, it will be with the glory of my favorite airline, Continental.

    Ahh I can't wait!

  • @crackaddict444 Continental merger anyone?

  • @crackaddict444 thumbs up if you like the old UAL paint

  • @ukfan1999 I like any paint job with the Tulip on it. It's ridiculous it's getting canned for utter crap from CO.

  • @ukfan1999 There are several "old'' UAL liveries, which one are you referring to?

  • @crackaddict444 Now that United and Continental merged, yes they need to return to their former glory. The "new" United isn't United at all!!!

  • @crackaddict444 Yea With The Merge of Continental they will I wonder what they gonna do with paints phases

  • @crackaddict444 I hope Continental pulls them up instead of vice versa

  • To think if the United of today were more like they were in 1994, I would actually feel a sense of pride in my hometown airline

  • good point. I flew united to Munich. The flight attendants were like seventy and the food was'nt good

  • come and fly the friendley skies i dont think so come and fly the dangerous skies

  • United is terrible. I will NEVER fly them again!

  • Dear All,

I have some questions about psychology:

    *Why do we love flying?

*Why do we enjoy air travel?

*What do we enjoy most in the sky?

THANK YOU IN ADVNACE for your creative ideas and brainstorm!!! :)

  • If you want your guitar to get broken, Come fly Chicago's home town airlines, come fly the Breaking Skies, that can only be brought to you by United and United Express. Breaking guitars more than any other airline in the world LOL

  • They Also Break Guitars!

  • United Sucks!!!!!!

  • Yup ... united breaks guitars

  • United breaks guitars

  • United breaks guitars

  • This commercial is awesome love the song

  • go united! i want to be a pilot for them someday! =)

  • That voice sounds so familiar. It's got to be Gene Hackman.

  • I used to fly United a lot but got bored with the food. Still love their theme song Rhapsody in Blue.

  • A great VIDEO, and by the way UNITED AIRLINES is the bomb !!!!!

  • yeah literally...think of 2001

  • it's a mitsubishi commercial see 0,25

  • Subliminal Advertising

  • I really think that currently, United is representing the spirit of the States like Pan Am used to.

  • I dream about going to SFO with United...

    Teenage fancy, haha

  • I woould like that United will features fligths to Peru again

  • Comment removed

  • Nah, it's by far the best.

  • The theme tune is "Rhapsody in Blue", composed by George Gershwin. I love the classic video - the RiB commercials were always among United's best!

  • So true. I've enjoyed two decades of them since I was a kid.

  • I love United!!!

  • Love Gene Hackman!

  • This is a really cool commercial. Ah, the good ol' days...

  • I wish all airlines would just use the 747's, woudld make flying exp. much better

  • I've been wondering for many many yrs what the name of the theme song of these united commercials?

    anybody have any info please?

  • Rhapsody In Blue

  • United still has the best route system in the World. To bad their domestic service (other than 1st class) is in the dumps w/all the cutbacks.

  • United Airlines is the best US airline, but Cathay Pacific, ANA, and Singapore Airlines are better.

  • Whoever made this commercial must have been taking acid.

  • I believe this is reference to the film "King of Jazz" which had a part with Rhapsody in Blue with Kaleidoscope effects.

  • i love united. GO CHICAGO!!!! yay O'Hare best airport in the world :-)

  • I totally agree! Except for, you know, the delays, the weather, the runway layout... other than that, it's great!

  • Chicago IS awesome!I used to live there so i should know:)wind is a problem tho...

  • i am going to chicago tommorow at 2 in the morning is it beautiful

  • go ohare airport c u next month united

  • I would visit my grandparents and relatives in New Jersey at least once but often twice a year from 1986-2002. We would always fly United Airlines. This old commercial brings back memories of me flying UAL in the 1980s/early 1990s, and how excited I would be on the planes. I loved to fly and this song would play when the plane started its taxi. My grandparents are now deceased so seeing this brings back memories and also makes me sad. How I miss those old days and being a kid.

  • Whats this music called?

  • Rhapsody in Blue, by George Gershwin, in various iterations.... IMHO for the commercials, this is my favorite version...

  • its united airlines song, it isnt a song they got, i think they made it.

  • wtf...it is called Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin

United paid lots of money to use it. They use it well I might add.

  • 1994, ah, the glory days. Meals on every flight, regardless of flight time, high moral, even higher wages, a great pension plan, please bring me back to those good ole' days!

  • I used to love this commercial.I ended up flying for united for 7 years. But had to quit becuase I was going to school at the same time and my work history got to be so bad, plus after 911 it changed and United became a mess.

  • yea they lost a lot of customers

  • Love it! They should bring back the old music, slogan, and powerfulness that there new adverts lack of.

  • the "Come fly our friendly skies" Was a great slogan no question about it....

  • Love the 747, especially in the new United scheme. Beautiful plane.

  • im going on one this week woo

  • some of there aircraft seem to be lacking maintnence,

  • Maintenance? what's that. they outsource it to south america, china and god knows where. the public only sees the outside of the plane and the interior cabin they don't know what those engines and structures look like. those planes area MESS.

  • what? they get there planes from boeing, airbus, embraer, dehaviland, bombardier. they come from the u.s, france and brazil.

  • United has a varied fleet of planes, that's for sure. I've flown on UAL's A319, 737 "NextGen" and United-Skywest's CRJ. The CRJ is pretty cramped but I like how quickly it gets airborne.

BUT the planes I really want to fly on are the 747-400 and the 777!

  • 777 is good!

  • it isnt good, ITS AWESOME!!!

  • @pilotnicco Bombardier is Canadian, and most of the de Havilland commercial planes are made in Canada too :)

  • What happen to the sweet rolls?

  • 1,000 flights a day, to 135 cities. My, my favorite airline has gotten much bigger since the year I was born. United now has 3,600 flights a day to 210 destinations! Cool commercial! I wish United would re-adopt the "Friendly Skies" slogan again. People already know that its time to fly.

  • United airlines, best airline in the US, serously, compared to AA or delta, their new first and bussniess class seats are kick ass

  • UAL is OK, id give it a B+ for first domestic, but their new bussniess and first are comparible to british airways, ok, so check them out, they look pretty cool compared to you know, british airways, cathy pacific, MABYE even JAL, but their probibly the best US carrier

  • It was a great airlines back in 1994. The skies aren't so friendly anymore

  • Actually it has been 7 years since that auwful day. People are ready again. Bring back the great slogan!

  • are you kidding me? there's nothing friendly about flying on United. Maybe if you like torturing yourself and if you like the feeling of not being cared for then fly on UAL. There's other airlines offering way better service

  • Thats My Boeing!!!

  • i flew united once on united flight 232

  • As a former UAL employee, we were all very sad when one of our planes went down, especially with loss of life. Your capt. and other employees on that flt. are credited with the many lives saved that day! Thank God you are alive!

  • Great Video!!! Great Airline!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Gene Hackman...

  • Delta and UA and KE and OZ and SQ is the best ariline in the world NWA treat y like NOTHING

    Those FOOD ARE SO UNCOOKED!

  • Saving oil is UNAMERICAN! The faster we use up oil based fuels like jet fuel, the faster we will have to research, invest, and then produce alternate enviro-friendly fuel sources you commie fag pinko meatheads!!!!! Then THAT will be good for the economy so stifle it EDITH

  • the best so far...pretty airline

  • dickyco2, what do you really KNOW about jetliners..probably not much. This aviation buff can tell you that most modern jet engines are not all that hard on the environment. It's way different now than back in the 60's when jet engines made a lot of gray exhaust on takeoff. What the real problem is, is what people do everyday in their own communities.

  • Persisting contrails can spread into extensive cirrus clouds that tend to warm the Earth, because they reflect less sunlight than the amount of heat they trap. The balance between Earth's incoming sunlight and outgoing heat drives climate change. Patrick Minnis, senior research scientist at NASA's Langley Research Center in Hampton, Va .April 27, 2004.

  • Give up trying to convince people not to fly. The airlines are not going to stop existing because of you and your pathetic tree-huggy whining. Consider that one way that food gets to wherever you live the next time you sit down to eat a meal...if it's perishable, such as fish..depending where it's from, it might be flown in. Same for things like meds and vaccines.

  • There are 25,000 flights in the US daily and it takes just six jets to cover 7700 square miles of sky with contrails.Dr. David Travis: Associate Dean of Assessment, Geography Professor

  • Your breath creates too much Carbon Dioxide. Kill yourself.

  • WHY?

  • Shows how manny special effects are in ads these days.

  • This an awsome United commercial I love to fly to Chicago O'Hare!

  • Except when the weather doesn't shut it down practically.. Right?

  • I flew United from KPHL to Tulsa(KTUL) with a connection (United/Skywest regional)at O'Hare. So far, United has the best passenger service I've experienced. The worst was now-defunct Piedmont.

  • who is the name of this song???? who play it?? if somebody can help me ?? thanks!

  • The title is Rhapsody in Blue. I think it's by George Gershwin, but too many dudes have re-made it over and over again.

  • Yes, the original one is made by George Gershwin. It is my favorite version too... Followed by the one in this commercial.

  • hmm y'know what? United has good food on long flights XD

  • I liked the one with the macaw playing Gershwin on the piano. Can't find it anywhere. Someone post it please!!!

  • Wow that was Gene Hackman narrating? Awesome. I still get chills when I hear Gershwin while watching these old commercials. I remember how I used to love these as a kid and how my dad taught me about classical music. :) Good memories.

  • covering the sky with burnt oil exhaust water contrail spreading into a reflective acid blanket keeping the Earth warm at night. Nice.

  • Yawn... Why don't you stop driving then, Hippie.

  • Quite what cars have to do with making an exhaust based frozen acid-rain layer of reflective cloud 8-12km up (contrail-cirrus) which by its physical presence changes the atmosphere so changing the climate, so changing the weather and your simple world.

  • eco-freak.

  • NASA scientists have found that cirrus clouds, formed by contrails from aircraft engine exhaust, are capable of increasing average surface temperatures enough to account for a warming trend in the United States that occurred between 1975 and 1994.
