On the subject, like I said earlier, HDI is a good set of measurements about it a country but it doesn't tell all that much about a country economically. It largely measures things like infant mortality, environmental quality, stress of life, government and corporate transparency, crime rates, life expectancy, etc. A country can have low scores in these areas but high GDP and even GDP per capita. For instance, the US has high GDP but has one of the lowest HDI scores in the entire Western world.

There are good illustrations available that contrast GDP with HDI and they are strikingly similar as a whole. There are exceptions but this is due more to unusual circumstances like oil and not a direct reflection of the living standards of the entire population. CSRA is a "racist" law that was implemented. This law must have been created in 1600 when we became slaves. Actually it's in 115th place according to the 2008 report. Seychelles, another African country, is in 54th place. Barbados, a mostly black country, is in 37th place. Bahamas (mostly black) is in 49th, Cuba (significantly black) is in 48th, Mauritius is in 74th, Saint Lucia in 66th, etc.

On the subject, like I said earlier, HDI is a good set of measurements about it a country but it doesn't tell all that much about a country economically. It largely measures things like infant mortality, environmental quality, stress of life, government and corporate transparency, crime rates, life expectancy, etc. A country can have low scores in these areas but high GDP and even GDP per capita. For instance, the US has high GDP but has one of the lowest HDI scores in the entire Western world.

There are good illustrations available that contrast GDP with HDI and they are strikingly similar as a whole. There are exceptions but this is due more to unusual circumstances like oil and not a direct reflection of the living standards of the entire population.
