I was in a Bar in San Francisco, CA and OK, I was shitfaced on premium bourbon and Sunday Smile can on the Jukebox. I heard the song and started choking up when I heard the horns (its like the horns were crying like I was). I had left Jennifer in Korea, pleading me not to go. I professed my love and my pledge I would return. I called her cell phone and it was disconnected. I'll never see her again and this song is now our song. Oh Well!!!
Embarrassing to admit, but I heard about this band in Men's Health magazine and decided to purchase some of their MP3's. Given their name Beirut and without doing any research whatsoever I assumed the band was from the Middle East. Also they sound so exotic. I like it.
When I listen to his songs, the voice is just killing me, shouting me, I can't think about anything else and for a few minutes I feel like I'm in heaven :)))
8 seconds ago I think the people there (France?) are more open to spontaneous live music around them and appreciate it more. If they did that in So Cal people would probably get pissed off! lol Serious tho...we need to lighten up and appreciate the simple things in life. Of course, it's nice when they have talent too! I DON"T appreciate those guys just bangin on their guitars by Huntington Pier or anywhere else...it's just annoying!
"music from the future and music from the past" . Beirut could be both. a kind of smoke from our beloved chilhood, a taste of love, a dream of our death. smilling betwins tears and growing in our veins like only Art can do.
ps: I was just trying to tell my feelings. You'll have to excuse my english, as I'm not english speaker.
i totally agree i will have to suss out the chord arrange ments, i know its C, F, Bb, Dm.. but just a matter of figgering out the little parts in between, especially when changing from the Bb to Dm - that is the hottest part !
I admire the live performances, however the music kinda reminds me of church hymnals. Good music nonetheless.

Great song from a great band.. Nice video as well, which would have been far better without the annoying "ringtone" advertisement bottom left.

beautiful song. i have a couple of corrections to your lyrics though.
1. instead of a sunday mile, at cemetery mile.
2. and hills reach for the sky reach the church of white.
3. and at the end, its said we felt clean.
