  • I love Tom Waits, but I was a bit surprised by how much of his musical style is taken from this one Howling Wolf song

  • tom a fabulous jazz pianist as well as one of the more creative and imaginative band leaders is always a joy for me to behold

  • First, there are no more (or few) original ideas left these days...it's ALL been done before. Even on guitar, unless you have 6 fingers or 3 arms, there isn't a series of notes that haven't been played before. But to say Waits' is ripping off Wolf or Beafheart is like sayng Keith Richards is ripping off Chuck Berry riffs...Everyone steals from somebody in music. It's called progress. Tom has proven himself as an unparalleled songwriter that no one has been able to imitate.

  • his entire schtick (and schtick it is) is based on derivative "imitations" of how he can "do" *part* of Wolf's voice, same as Wolfman Jack. Wolf and I discussed all this at length on tape. There are many who try it. Some, notably Led 'Thieving Magpies' Zep, and many more, just ripped off songs by Wolf & Dixon songs, countless others. Few originators could litigate. Arthur Crudup never got ONE royalty. Wolf sued LZ, then had to sue his own publishers to get his share. ? = is cover credited?

  • @gorefinger logic? only maintains but never attains a truth. And YOUR reified, limited, emotionally blindfolded, tunnel-visioned linear view of a "history" is a self-scamming tell of your game, making wrongful judgments appear to be facts, by blabbering forth a contrived social reality that serves nothing except to pretend as its ACTUAL goal your denial of being the very nausea you imagine see coming from outside yourself. That's all the mentoring you get for free sonny

  • @gorefinger Be sure to RE-read my previous deconstruction of your naive blabbery and mis-use of Logic IA. Add now: YOU = strident asshat, pretentious pseudo-intellectual, unable to tell your "tells" (grandiose, thus empty, words being some). Your stalker's boner to change MY opinion is rude, stupid & wrong. You have a hard time believing anything that's so real as what I said, as it's just beyond your senses of truth. I'm not interested in your yammerings. Be kind to urself now and piss off.

  • Yeah, Please tell me this is a typo on the posters part. It cant be tom's peeps...I would be very angry at you TOM. Chester Burnett aka the Wolf for sure, I having ill feelings about you after 35 yrs Tom.....grrr

  • @brewereric Tom has often covered Chester Burnett - Its a pretty well known song. Tom wouldn't claim the work of other people as his own =)

After 35 years, you should know this! :D

  • @Avocalypse LOL but its the music business, cant say I have ever met Tom so I would not have anything to base it on. Dont beat me up, it was just a comment in the comment section where we are allowed to comment dude...I know his history and his first band many many years ago, have never heard him complement any of his idols or otherwise publicly but im still a huge fan and owner of his new live cd...so there

  • @brewereric Oh, I hope you didn't take it as some kind of attack! =)

It was just a friendly 'jab'.

  • Nice. For anyone who cares, it's "Whose been talkin'" a Howlin Wolf classic.

  • Same from me. Thumbs up.

  • fantastic version 10 out of ten
