the beauty of this song is that it applies to the modern times as well as use authentic tamil drum beats.. a language will die if it does not relate to the modern times... without a evolution anything will cease to exist and same applies to languages // dont try to say too much western influence ... because all kinda styles are used in it ...

ARR could have done a far better job. It gets so western especially at 5:19, sounds more like a hip hop group like Black eyed peas trying to sing in Tamil. I would have preferred something close tamil folk with a bit of carnatic!!!!

Apparently the lines about Kambar and Ouvaiyaar were added later. But, that is not the reason why they stick out as a sore thumb in an otherwise decent attempt - the main reason is Blaaze and the female singer (Shruthi?)

ppl who think this song sucks or a r rahman is a fagget is jus blind or rather deaf...he has bought all genres of music in this song with tamil lyrics....it is TAMIL WORLD conference...hes bought all the popular genres of the world of music in this song.... tht was his job...hes done it perfectly....

3) Considering the poem was written first and the tune was composed for the poem, there are a few places that don't gel making it sound like a dialog rather than a song but that was expected.

Rahman has done a decent job but a few minuses:

1) Flawed pronunciation - Rahman says "yaadhum oorE yaavarum kELeer" instead of "yaadhum oorE yaavarum kELir". It changes the meaning of the phrase

2) Blaaze's part does not fit - Rahman's obsession with Blaaze is a little tiring. Why would you want to use him for such a song?
