You don't quit have the groove but nice try. Check out Lenore by Chick Corea. Its on here somewhere. Steve Gadd laid down a very nice linear groove on that as well.
Full credit this is Missing Persons, First Album Spring Session M, 1982. Keep trying. It's missing the GROOVE, timing and dynamics, no offense. Your fast tempo sounds rushed, uneven. Here are vids to help.

thanks man! it IS a pretty intricate little groove isn't it? I had to transcribe this thing first...and even THAT took me a while....
The best part about this groove is that once you get really comfortable with it you will already have a great basic knowledge of linear drumming and odd time at the same time. This has helped me so much with other styles and grooves. Thanks T-Boz!
Oh and Bozzio! When I heard the work he did with Stevens and Levin I already knew who he was, but now...he just STUNS me! It's like the way any virtuoso guitarist phrases. He's just incredible.
As a guitar player, an older still learning one, this is like the first time I heard Hendrix, or Satch, Vai, VH, SRV, etc... WHAT AN INCREDIBLE TIME SIG. this is!!! I just never knew. It's just so full of groove and character. WOW!!!
awesome man. i was thinking about posting a video of me playing the black page, but i don't want people bitching at me if i make a mistake (and i probably will). but, anyway, great job.
Do it! That's the whole reason for uploading clips of ourselves, to get constructive criticism from our peers. Yes,you might get the odd nasty comment, but i'd personally love to see you play the black page. Takes balls just to LEARN the bloody thing! Cheers man.
yeah, i was thinking yesterday and i will do it. even if it has mistakes, it would i'd probably get some props for even trying it. thanks for the advice.
Thanks man...this groove has helped me alot with linear grooves. It's really offbeat, which means you have to concentrate on the quarter note THAT much more. Good luck with it, it'll open up SO much in your playing, i promise.
I can't even walk and talk at the same time let alone beat on the drums and use the foot pedal at the same time..well done :-)

Wow, thanks a lot for teaching this great beat. I've thought about covering this tune on drums so this will help if I do.

Brilliant, dude. Until this moment, I couldn't figureout this rhythm for the 25 years I've been listening to this song.

Cool groove! GREAT job in breaking it down so we can learn it. A very nice contribution to YouTube drummers worldwide. 5 stars.
