There are no great opening themes anymore like ABC had in the 70's and 80's. It was more fun to watch the opening and closing credits than the actual show! lol
I do not remember this show -- and I watched A LOT of TV in the 70s and 80s. I can tell by looking at the clip that it was on ABC. What day did this show appear when it was on?
My girlfriend at the time loved Angie so I often ended up seeing it as well. Always amazed me that Robert Hays didn't die from estrogen poisoning; aside from the producers he was the only dude to be found anywhere near this show.
wow this show starred three people who went on to other stuff ... Robert Hays ( Airplane! and Homeward Bound films) Doris Roberts( Clare Tanner(Granny Tanny) from "Full House" "Marie" from Everybody Loves Raymond also she was one of the Relatives from "National Lampoons Christmas Vacation") Donna Pescow ( Annette from "Saturday Night Fever", also starred on "Out Of This World and also known as The Mom from "Even Stevens")
RIP Debralee Scott. You have suffered enough. Go rest in heaven, For those of you who did not know, she lost her fiance during 9-11, then died in 2005, probably of an aneurysm.
bhkidd, I hadn't heard that DebraLee had died. That's sad. Now I feel semibad about the comment I was going to make about how much her lisp annoyed the living hell out of me.
I don't think it's sad.I do think that having a studio audience puts pressure on the writers to sink to the lowest common denominator for a good "laugh track".If the script is written badly, sometimes they throw in a "shock factor" just to somehow salvage the show. You can't beat great writers and/or an accomplished cinematographer.I will admit the theme songs were much better in the 60s and 70s : D
@ElJefeNLA I agree. its mostly reality crap shows. Well at least there is still Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, Chuck and The Middle. Mike and Molly is kinda growing on me
Hey,maybe Philly can make a comeback! We now allow buildings to rise above Billy Penns hat!And it may be quite possible to have a sit -com that has a theme song!Maybe with lyrics and music, would'nt that be original!
Yeah the shows in the 70's/80's were dumb and contrived but the theme songs kicked royal ass!!Charles fox wrote the angie theme song as well as happy days and barbarella. The guy's a great songwriter for a show that sucked.
I agree. Maybe I'm an old stick in the mud, but I still like the tv shows that were on in the 1970's and eighties better than the shows they put on today.
I loved these shows, but I also enjoy shows today too - but they have changed. The ones that I like best are on HBO - Curb Your Enthusiasm, Six Feet Under, SEx and the City - all very topical and funny and serious for today - but not on network tv. I do like The Office and 30 Rock now on NBC also.
I am from Philly and we were excited cuase it was the first sitcom based here. The show sucked but looking back on 70's/80's TV, most of it was dumb and contrived.
I wonder why this show didn't have an audience. My family and I watched it every week (maybe because we were Italian, like the Falcos). Where is Sharon Spelman these days?
remember lighthearted comedy? I'm tired of all the neurotc, dysfunctional characters in todays comedies."Angie" was a breezy romantic comedy where you lauged WITH the characters. I miss it and it's kind.
Can anyone explain a question I have: in one of the opening clips, there is a picture of a fruit stand and 3 people standing in front of it? Is that Angie and Brad? Or was it just a clip of Philly again? (I'm talking about the clip before Angie grabbing 3 apples to throw to Brad). Thanks!
Maureen McGovern, who sang The Morning After from The Poseiden Adventure, had sung this song. She released it as a single, and it did moderately well (I think Top 20). I loved Debralee Scott from the show and I had a crush on her. Unfortunately, she passed away in 2005. It is a shame this show didn't do better. It was a fun little show!
She died in 2005. From the sources I had read, her fiance was a NY Firefighter who died on 9/11. She never really recovered from the loss and she drank herself to death. It's very sad!
Doris Roberts had once said that the cast of this show had kept in touch with each other. I think it's wonderful that even short-lived series casts would remain friends.
No actually it was the other way around. Tammy Lauren played Hillary, Sharon Spelman's daughter. The first season also had Diane Robin as Didi in the opening credits as well a little circle with the cast walking in and out
It premiered in February of 1979 and was cancelled in the fall of 80 after a season and a half. So definately not mid 70s. Awesome theme song, though. They don't make em like that anymore.
It was a fabulous show, with such talent, it should have been given a better chance. :) I mean, Robert Hays (Airplane!); Donna Pescow (Saturday Night Fever); and Doris Roberts (Everybody Loves Raymond); such talent there was!
Me too! I was nine when this came out and loved this song. I remember it was on the radio for a brief spell. Don't know why this show or the song didn't garner more attention. Gotta love the net and the folks who post these gems!
