@loganenorris Haha, you probably have. This song is a lot of fun to throw your own improvised shit into. Check out my cover on my page. If you get the chance. It's more of an improvisation than a cover, haha.
Another thing is to keep the tips of your fingers close to the fretboard at all times. Now.. this isn't completely necessary for every second of your playing... but if you build up from slow and fast ALL while doing this, you'll develope a beneficial habit and can play LOADS better with ease. Playing good is all about playing comfortably. Other than that... good stuff man.
Some things that can help with your ability to move around the board if you keep an eye out for them: Slant your fingers... gotta have that neck caressed in your hands bro!
you got a good cover going on. but, some constructive criticism: You got all the notes rightand on spot. but thats not what this song is about. try adding a twist to it, of improvising some. that way, your cover is origional. also, it would have sounded better with a less nervous tone, a little deeper with more gain. but, all in all, a very good cover.
all i use are two practice amps. the bigger one is a Peavey Rage 158 and i sit a tiny little amp, that i got for free when i bought my BC Rich Beast, on top of it. the Beast is real crisp and the Peavey is good for bass so i just connected to two
Yeah true that. Most the people who leave shitty comments have no clue how big of a difference there is between live play, and the studio version. Whoever says you did bad...or that you suck needs to get a life. Playing live.......ridiculously different. I play in a coheed tribute band. I'll try to put some vids on here....but man....i have heard your vocals to....they are great. Your guitar playing is great as well. The hardest thing for me was learning to sing and play at the same time.UR good
Don't listen to all the people bashinig it. It takes balls to post something on YouTube, especially a song like this where there are solos. You did fine, it sounded fine, and your tone was fine. It's a damned recording, people! It's not going to sound up to par with Coheed's mix.
i did kind of a bad job on this cover so i wouldn't use it too readily...i had been learning stuff from the new album and hadn't tuned down to play Good Apollo so i was rusty when i recorded this.
when I learned the intro, it was tabbed on the D and G strings, starting on the 12th freth and being otherwise no different, just higher up the neck and on different strings. :D
look at me, using emoticons on comments... I feel so juvenile.
thanks...but i screwed this cover up since i hadn't played it in so long...i know it better now and as far as the amps go...you're right!!! i just can't afford a cab right now...my tone does sound better now though cause i got new pick ups and new wah pedal and i have toned down the gain and adjusted the amps i do have (two layered practice amps) but i totally agree with you!
=0 holy shit dude, you are mad good bro. you got some talent, i think that one of these days, if you have the time, you should post a tutorial video for some of your songs, cause your really good bro, well hit me up sometime man. L8R- Naggerguy8
thanks man i appreciate it. some one has already asked me for a time consumer tutorial, which i am still working on (i am trying to write an original song at the moment) so if you or anybody who doesnt know how to play a coheed song, more than likely i know it and will try to make a tutorial
after i refreshed my memory i am so much better at this song now...i could probably do it in one take cause i play the solo all the time...i am trying to work on my improv though
its very good guy, you just need to work out the tone (though that could just be the recording). May be grab some pedals for the blues effects on the second half of the outro.
thanks dude...yea, i am trying to find a Sparkle Drive cheap along with a Boss NS-2, TU-2, and GE-7...i bought a Dimebag CFH wah since this video (as well as remmembered how to play this song correctly, lol). i also need a reverb pedal...Holy Grail maybe
well thanks, i have put EMG's in it and added a Dimebag Crybaby From Hell to the MXR ZW-44 (although i am probably gonna sell it and get a Sparkle Drive for a beefier/crisper tone) since this video so the tone is a bit better...what else would you suggest i do (i am gonna get a Boss NS-2, TU-2, and GE-7 as well)
this is a bad cover, but why should the song not be covered? that's just stupid...if you like the song, if you can play it, or even if you can't play it...you should still make a cover for comstructive criticism at least...and what do you mean last solo?
thanks (for both comments) but yea, i should really redo this cover cause i made it after i hadn't played this song in forever (idk why i didn't practice first) but i think i used a 40 watt amp here. but now (because i am cheap) i ran a splitter between a 15 and a 40 watt amp, the 15 has a bass tone cause it is a B.C. Rich amp and the Peavey (40 watt) gives more treble...so i have a semi-half decent rig set up, lol
i try really hard not to be an asshole to people like you but for FUCKS sake stop putting covers on youtube if you dont know how to play the song well. please. think of it as a personal favor to all of us. that was by far the worst attempt at the solo ive ever seen
like you're so amazing? think of it as a personal favor to all of us, Stop trash talking shit about people unless you can do better...your little 2113 attempt was far from anything remotly good and you want other people to quit posting bad covers? i will say that i am better at the solo now then i was i was in this video...but still better than you
honestly, youre not. ive played every song youve covered and i can confidently say i am better. as for the 2113 solo youre right, however take the following into consideration.
1. Its not one full cover. youve posted countless
2. Its played on acoustic so you cant make a fair comparison
3. though not error free, the notes are corrected. I wouldn't have the nerve to post anything if i have to guess at the notes to play
Oh OK! like you said i have posted countless full covers so what is stopping you if your so good. and i am glad you can play my covers, that i posted like a year ago, better than i could then, but guess what, so can i! its a matter of practice. if you wanna have a "cover-off" just name the song...since youre better than me you shouldn't have too big of a problem right?
k...listen...im about over this petty internet arguement so lets say we make it a friendly cover off and instead of taking shots at each other we give each other constructive criticism...eh?
thanks about the guitar, but you are gay...i am sorry, but "EMO"?...really? 1)you don't know me and plus there is nothing emo about someone playing guitar, therefore there is nothing emo about me in this video, giving you no excuse to call me emo...the fact that you are even calling me emo makes you look like a tool
hey dude im think about getin an xplorer you have a polished natural looks sweet but it comes with a white pick gaurd did you buy a black one? or custom?
yea it was custom, but it was only like $40 or so at pickguardheaven. com. you just pick out the material, the ply, the style and email the people there...you why have to mail them your old pickguard tho
well i was playing along with an acoustic performance so that is why the intro isn't as good as it could've been and i didn't play this song for a while before i made this since the new album and all the others are in standard so i forgot some parts of the solo (plus i wasn't used to playing it on this guitar) but i don't think i butchered it...i may not have done it justice, but...

Don't listen to him. It's popular to hate on EMGs now. I have EMG-81 in my explorer's bridge and an EMG-60 in the neck. Great tones. 81 sucks on clean but the 60 is amazing. They have been doing the active thing much longer than Seymour. Rock on.
mcdrusso 4 years ago
oh...cool, lol. why is it popular to hate EMGs?
loganenorris 4 years ago
I used to love them, but then I realized how they inhibit any growth in playing, and if you MUST have an active pickup go for a DiMarzio D-Activator.
It is a passive, but with all you could want out of an active without it being completely dead.
