  • Thank you for posting. Between this and the children's film J.T. it made little children learn to have a heart even in the most saddest of situations. We grew up during wonderful times in film and television and I wish that children today could experience material as wonderful as this instead of ...well you know...

  • I remember watching first watching this in first grade because of a mistake. The teacher had assumed it was about circus clowns and she apologized after it finished.

  • wow what memories what year was this i was no older then 7 wow those 70's

  • I've never forgotten wonderful film...thanks so much.

  • Teacher showed us this film in 6th grade. All the girls were crying by the halfway point!

  • i'll nver this film either...30 years later. my sister and i still cry...

  • This movie consumed me from the 60's on until I finally found a copy and bought it in 2004. Yeah it will rip your heart out and spit it back in your face. This is my favorite movie right behind 'To Sir with Love'. I wish I could go back to the 60's, it was a great time to be alive. Now I have to go and blow my nose.

  • i too was all consumed with this gem..till i found a copy of it.

  • It teaches children to have heart.

  • Same story here! They showed this in school and made us Kindergardners cry like babies! It didn't help that it was called "Clown" so we expected something funny. Great movie though.

  • I remember watching this in elementary school and crying also. I wiped the tears away before the lights came on. I thought I was the only kid that was crying.

  • I felt the same way. Awesome movie

  • this was a huge part of my childhood. i saw it several times on cbs' children's film festival. thank you.

  • My god this film has clearly broken you! We had to watch this film over and over and over again in elementary school. EVERY YEAR! And every year, at least two kids would remember their dog that never came home or got hit by a car or whatever and then have breakdowns. They knew this would happen and still they kept showing it! No comments, no discussions. Honestly, I don't think you can even show this movie at Gitmo!. Amnesty international would have a fit. So yeah, let's show it to kids!

  • @knarvil I agree, we also had this film rammed down our throats (from 1rst though 3rd grade), along with another freakin' scary one about a boy and his horse that got stuck in the mud with a death-motif (also through 1rst and 3rd grade), that also got us kids all stirred up. These movies are worse than water boarding. But yes, they will make us as kids watch them over and over. Of course back then, they could paddle us when we gave the teacher sass.

  • Yes, i remember seeing this on 'film day' in early 70s, which was always a treat; Our teacher would close the drapes and turn off all the lights, then light up the projector in the darkness; ah yes, those were the days; this was the most memorable film, and so sad; many of us cried at the end;

  • I know I saw this on a Saturday morning in the late 60's or early 70's and that the opening musical theme came to mind a lot from time to time.

    Watching this now, I was surprised to remember how the story ends, and remember the heart-warming effect.

    Thanks for making these videos available.

  • I remember watching this in 3rd grade in the 70s and crying! Thank you for posting this!
