@AlexisCapri Israelis were doing things like this long before 1987 when the US really stepped up military aid to Israel. During WW2 the Brits even named a commando force after Gideon, an Israelite regarded as the father of commando warfare. More recently Israeli commandos executed perhaps the greatest hostage raid ever at Entebbe.

One hostage was killed in the assult. No SAS were killed, 5 gunman were killed. This is a success. Especially when one considers that the Brits refused to be bullyed by thugs. As an American I commend the SAS and respect the choice to make the assult.

The weather was terrible, and this caused the crash of an airplane. But in the aftermath of operation eagle claw (YES I WILL ADMIT IT LOL) CDR.Richard Marcinko was instructed to form SEAL Team 6- of which he modeled after SAS. The SEALs, Delta Operatives, and SAS all know their jobs.

DELTA Force & Navy DEVGRU are every bit the equal of SAS, & they both have similar success/failure rates. Hostage rescues are inherently dangerous missions to carry out, & the slightest unpredictable factor can lead to a friendly death. As for Somalia, there is much pride to be had there, seeing how little the ground forces had to work with, & how they still managed to fight off an entire city.
