Man, I bugged my parents for so long to find this movie. They must have rented one called "The Quest" like 5 times. All I remember was the way the "chess pieces" disintegrated. It's like I was in love with the whole movie just 'cause of that one little thing. It was I believe the 5th grade in Mrs. Couregges' class at Southside Estates in Jacksonville, Florida that we watched this. Of course I hadn't thought about it in years until now.
Holy Shit I've been looking for this since the 80s too. Saw it in like 5th grade. Pretty trippy... It's like "The Dark Crystal" meets "The Seventh Seal" meets "Total Recall" . Ok, maybe not...
@lugojiano Much agreed. Frost and Fire was one of the first Bradbury stories I ever read. I'd love to see a feature length version really do it justice, but this is okay. Heck I'm happy just to see it at all.
I read the "Frost and Fire" short story when I was around 13 years old. Back then all sorts of Bradbury compilations containing the story were sold. Titles were "R is for Rocket" and "S is for Space" among countless others.
Dude- the reason I have had this up so long is its merely a sample so folks can enjoy the story. I think one can still get a DVD from Pyramid- rather expensive. I am not here to rip them off, or anyone for that matter. Maybe u can do the honors and "rip" one...I happen to have an old library copy on 16 or I never woulda seen it meself. I find the message so important I was moved to share it, like the Matisse, Escher and la jetee films on my pages -and "Steppenwolf 2008". ..enlightenment!
Thank you so much for providing us with this film - a lot of people were waiting for that! It's really too bad about the picture and sound quality... wish i had a DVD rip or something.
probably this plot summary is from the written story- a little different-
"On a distant planet, descendants of a crashed spaceship are subjected to mysterious forces that cause them to age and die in just eight days. They must also live in caves to escape the bitter cold of night and the killing heat of day. One young boy is determined to find his way back to the ship that brought them there. But how will he accomplish this in the short time left to him?" -Mike Konczewski, from imdb
@RobinofSactown This seems like one of those stories Bradbury really didn't think through. I swear, I get so frustrated with him for the way he pays no care to logic or subtext and writes whatever he wants, then says anyone who writes differently is 'thinking too much'. He's extremely naive and excessively sentimental. So children grow old and die within eight days, except that the entire village is made up of old people. I probably missed something but it just seems poorly thought out.
This is a film I saw in 1985 in public school. about 10 years later i started looking for it but never found it until today. THANK YOU !!!!! love the ticking sound.
Sure Melissa- my pleasure. It was brand new then-Pyramid has no publicity or distribution nowdays so I think u can order this online but a VHS tape is like 79 bucks- Im glad u like the projector sound- it certainly adds to the fun for me. Hope to transfer more old films soon.
A friend in Indiana sent me this and let me keep it. It is one of my favorite stories and seems to have some relation to The never ending Story. The kid at 13 looks the same kid as in that. This is from 1983 i think.glad u like it- write to imdb w/yr review.
Sure pal- I am a 16 mm archivist so I have some pretty special stuff- i shoot it from the screen AND SPEAKER TO MIC so u can enjoy the sprocket sounds. MOVIES ARE BETTER THAN VIDEO, EVEN WHEN TRANsFERRED TO VIDEO oops sorry for shouting.

@NintendoCapriSun , Glad to help! I'm about to try and transfer the film with my HD cam. If that works I'll put it up in better quality.
