Yep, Hector was the bad guy, and a coward. Hollywood forgetting to add that Achilles chased him around wall of troy a few times before he was stopped by his brother Deiphobus (Athena in disguise) and convinced to fight. Good movie, but far from its true origin in the Iliad. They tried to make this more historical-like rather than mythical, which it is, and in doing so screwed up why the story existed at all. They didn't want a "clash of the titans" feel, which ironicly is more accurate.
