I prefer the 2000s mainly for the hot cue section. the auto beat loop is pointless when you have a mixer with beat loop. The slip feature is even better then he explains because it also works with the loop and beat loop too create a roll effect aswell as the scratch.
Hey Trying to add some info for you all. How I see it if you have the CDJ 900 & Traktor Pro 2 that kinda adds anything that's not missing beat loop/Snyc is all in Traktor.
Since they both have audio cards in them, lets say I get either pair and and I have a regular mixer, will I still need to invest on Audio interfaces or I could just hook them up to a monitor?
i like the slip feature on the 900, but i like the needle search on the 2000, and i like the auto beat loop on the 900, but also like all the lights on the 2000... there is only one way to find out........
@GvMann1 "MK" stands for "Mark" which basically notes its placement in a series. Example: Mk I (or mark one) is the first in a series of two or more. Mk II (or mark two) is the second version in the series.
@Jaacckko0 itrs kinda fun. plus to the people who i work with and for, having a lot of cd's makes me "look" more professional. and while that sounds retarded people who dont know about dj gear think that 2 cdj's and a mixer n laptop looks unproffesional. just cuz i dont have the money for an acp40 with launchpad and full midi fighter set up doesnt make me any worse but if people dont know that. they might think it lol. people can be dumb
@elixer6x6x6 fair enough man. well if you aren't going to utilize the USB/rekordbox capabilities and quantized loop there is no reason at all for you to upgrade.
These boxes are so similar it's very confusing to make a decision between them. The value proposition for the extra $500 is tough to discern.
Does anyone know whether the players will play from the laptop directly via rekordbox (or whatever), or do they require the content be loaded to USB first? I'm talking, can I play from computer without buying Traktor or another 3d party software with these things?
@vixapphire Both the CDJ-900 & CDJ-2000 will play directly from a laptop using Rekordbox. You need to have the laptop, and CDJs connected all to a regular network hub with CAT5, OR the DJM-2000 provides the entire network on the mixer. You can also connect the DJM-900nexus to the hub now and Rekordbox will push quantized data to the mixer for beat/BPM locked effects.
No discussion of the beat loop feature on the 2000 as against the beat loop buttons on the 900? Come on, guys; if you're going to do a proper comparison, at least outline what you're going to talk about before rolling the camera. @vixapphire Thanks for the comment. We happily take constructive criticism if it's warranted. In this case, it's not. This video was produced on Feb 20 2010. The CDJ-2000 Firmware at the time was 2.03. Version 4.0 was not introduced until almost 1 year to the day later - on Feb 17, 2011. The quantized beat loop was not even a feature on the CDJ-2000 to 'compare' to the CDJ-900 at the time this video was shot. The CDJ-900 was the only player with that feature at the time.
@agiprodj Thanks for the quick response but you missed my point. Notwithstanding whether the beat cutter quantized or not, the omission of mention of the beat cutter button's functionality gives the impression that the feature is, like "slip", exclusive to the 900. Given the 2009 video of Roger Sanchez I just watched at the Pioneer DJ channel's dwelling on that feature (however kludged it sounded, not being quantized), that wasn't the case before the 2011 update.
RE: The break & start adjust. Yes the 2000 has separate dials but surely it's not that much better than the 900?. Couldn't you just start a song on the 900 fast or slow & then just turn the dial again to however you want it? I'm sure it would have the same effect as setting the 2 separate dials on the 2000. Anyway they're both amazing. I'm going for the 900's though. Not sure if the 2000's are really worth the extra €495 each. Especially since the features seem so similar.
To everyone talking about these decks its simple ..., buy both link them (d link) and u have best of both worlds ... simmmple'ssss thats what im doin ayhows , personally i love my technics 1210mk5 , and i can mix kinda GOOD on them , im glad i learnt that way 1st. Pioneer are candy dealers not putting there flip on the 2000 is a way of geting u to buy the mk2 2000. EVIL , but then "as is the consumer machine" hmm CON-sumer ... sounds funny :P
thanks so much for this video i needed it badly couldnt figure out the differences... still dont know which one to get but since im not getting them anytime soon i guess it doesnt matter... lol so far i have $200 saved XD
@DJNardini No they are bigger, I recommend you that check the pioneer dj forums and see by yourself the lot of problems they have, I personally avoid this generation or mk1 of pioneer for that and buy the flagship of Denon 3700 and really is a much better platter, 100% reliable, vinyl or static mode, 2 efx, 3 filters, 3 platter efx, pioneer only have the slipmode in the new cdj's...
Even after watching all these comparison videos I still cannot decide which one to go with. CDJ 900 is more affordable and slip function is kind cool not to mention the loop effects but on the other hand CDJ 2000 has all the bells and whistles such as the nice screen needle search platter tension setting a better sound card etc...I am planning to get the brand new djm 900 along with the cdj 900s but I cannot stop thinking about the CDJ 2000 otherwise although it could be a waste of money
Idk Wat to get I'm 14 years old nd I'm a basic dj laptop nd Hercules rmx I'm gettin better now so I hoping for a upgrade to cdjs nd serato but need help thank u for ur time nd message me Wat should I do.??
Just ordered 2 cdj-900 and a djm-700K... cant wait for them to arrive at my door!
Otherwise I have the same opinion as "kniffa", the 900 player have all those things that makes a great live set. I also think that i get for for the money with the 900 than the 2000.
@omnipitantlyoriginal The cdj2000 is more like the cdj1000mk3 but with a few more features that are not exactly necessary but nice to have. the cdj900 is more like the cdj800mk2 as its got the beat loops instead of the hot cues. the 2000 has the platter adjustment as the 1000mk3 does but then the 900 has the slip mode the 2000 doesnt.
@DjHamraaz well i have the same problem as you im a canadia looking for dj gear and i found this store in montreal called moog audio and they deliver to canada well there in canada lol and they have these playeers
i have the money for either a djm 800 or 2 cdjs 900 if i sell my 400s.
i want to know whats best to buy first. mixer has all cool effects but the cdjs have the link feature n can be connected to rekordbox.
now Q's about rekordbox, can u have live mixes off it if its conectd or is it jst used fo settin cue's. can u have them connected and use the app to auto beatmatch and will show the waveforms over eachother so u know if the beats is right?
@MrKianz I'd say the 900 for all the new features: better display, being able to link to your PC, easier navigation/browsing. They both cost pretty much the same so unless you really need hot cue buttons, there is no reason to pick up a 1000 mk3 :)
Does anyone know if you can link the 900's to a laptop without using the DJM-2000 to drop tracks from Rekordbox? I’m guessing you would use an Ethernet Hub/Switch to basically just create a simple LAN between the devices or can that not be done with only the CDJ’s? I’m thinking about making the move from Traktor Pro, Midi Controller & Sound Card to a pair of these as I have little faith in even the very most reliable computer, even though its never actually ever let me down during a gig.
@Simon0Day as far as I know, both the 900 and 2000 can be linked to a PC/Laptop (or even two PCs) with Rekordbox and the link can be with up to four CDJs (900/2000).
Do you have a wave display of the track on the cdj900 like the cdj1000 mk3? On the video it shows the track as red bars on the display like on the cdj800 mk2's?
@kev44442 You do have, but you must turn info about song on (there is a button called INFO on top of the CDJ screen). And your track must be analyzed in recordbox.
@kev44442 i have 900s.......it shows the wavfile but not as detailed as the 2000s......its kinda like a pixeled wavfile not very detailed but gives you the basic beatdrops of the tracks....its good enough for me lol
to people wondering which to buy, then i'd go with 900!! ( value for money)
i own 900's and play off 2000's too! there is not that much off a difference, led display looks really cool in a dark club!!! ... but im more about the music!! infact give me technics 1210's or some vestax! to spin some vinyl!!!
i just bought the cdj900s to replace my 400s - they are bloody AWESOME! The build quality is pretty good - below the 1000mk3 but well above the 800mk2, nice glossy black finish, nice big jogwheels (once you use them the 400 jogwheel seems pale in comparison)
@SuperWProductions Good eye Super. We had not run my drive through rekordbox yet. After you process everything through the software, the overview waveforms are enabled.
Thinking about what to buy.... CDJ 900 or 2000? 900 is abit cheaper. Little less functions. But im still learning and they are for in my bedroom.. but maby if i buy the 900 i will feel sorry not spending a little more..
@kniffa You sound like I was 7 years ago. I too didn't want to go to high end in case I didn't end up keeping with it. 7 years later, I wish I would have got the highest end setup I could have afforded at the time.
As for these, either one I think you will be happy with. But if you have the cash, go for the 2k's.
I am going to buy the CDJ-900. My reason : they are really great for DJing, they have the ability to do everything you want in a live set. Atleast for me. They will be standing in my bedroom. I think the CDJ-2000 is to much money for in the bedroom. Im still practising and if i can master the CDJ-900. I can also master the CDJ-2000. The needle search is unnecessary. And lets be honest. The vinyl speed adjust on the 2000 aswell. The hotcue's are the only thing for me that make big difference!
@kniffa there are certain features that the needle search makes easy, for example if you were to create a loop BEFORE you play the track through the master speakers, you could exit that loop using the needle drop, then when the song gets to that point in the track, it loops on until u exit the loop, great for making a live drop by looping on key words of the song, dividing until there is a bit of anticipation, then jumping to a real drop using hot-cues, there are alot more features than u think.
Man, that's a tough one. There are pros and cons to both. Well, mainly pros to both. But if I had to get one system or the other, I'd go with the 2000's with a DJM-800 :)
Feel free to hop on the chat tool on our website for more info.
@DJPWNSTAR In my opinion the mixer is the heart of the body, the cd players just the set. I would go with the 700 mixer because it just gives your more live possibilities in the effects section.
@Djxtrodinaire At the moment, they are almost the same functionality wise. We are hoping for HID support towards the end of Q2 which will give functionality with the hot cues/loops.
@djdarrell805 Hey djdarrell805 - No catalog yet, but we are set to launch a new website soon which will offer 100 fold products than we do now - all of which we are authorized dealers for. Like Sanifabulous said, give us a try - we'll take really good care of you! Everyone that works here is a working DJ. Personally I have been DJing for 23 years. There is no better profession!
I prefer the 2000s mainly for the hot cue section. the auto beat loop is pointless when you have a mixer with beat loop. The slip feature is even better then he explains because it also works with the loop and beat loop too create a roll effect aswell as the scratch.

No discussion of the beat loop feature on the 2000 as against the beat loop buttons on the 900? Come on, guys; if you're going to do a proper comparison, at least outline what you're going to talk about before rolling the camera. Benc2a 1 year ago
@kev44442 i have 900s.......it shows the wavfile but not as detailed as the 2000s......its kinda like a pixeled wavfile not very detailed but gives you the basic beatdrops of the tracks....its good enough for me lol

great video bro!!
to people wondering which to buy, then i'd go with 900!! ( value for money)
i own 900's and play off 2000's too! there is not that much off a difference, led display looks really cool in a dark club!!! ... but im more about the music!! infact give me technics 1210's or some vestax! to spin some vinyl!!!

Great video, I was on the fence but I'm very much going for the 900. Thanks!

i just bought the cdj900s to replace my 400s - they are bloody AWESOME! The build quality is pretty good - below the 1000mk3 but well above the 800mk2, nice glossy black finish, nice big jogwheels (once you use them the 400 jogwheel seems pale in comparison)

couldn't help but notice the waveform isn't really working on that 2000?

@SuperWProductions Good eye Super. We had not run my drive through rekordbox yet. After you process everything through the software, the overview waveforms are enabled.

Thinking about what to buy.... CDJ 900 or 2000? 900 is abit cheaper. Little less functions. But im still learning and they are for in my bedroom.. but maby if i buy the 900 i will feel sorry not spending a little more..
kniffa 1 year ago

@kniffa same here!

@kniffa:
As a techno-DJ, a would always prefer the awesome auto-loop section over hc's. And don't forget the Slip Mode! The 900s are underestimated!
Ralle0990 1 year ago 2
@kniffa true, but i like auto beat looping as well. both have quantize feature, which is a biggie too
bigdima3 11 months ago
@kniffa there are certain features that the needle search makes easy, for example if you were to create a loop BEFORE you play the track through the master speakers, you could exit that loop using the needle drop, then when the song gets to that point in the track, it loops on until u exit the loop, great for making a live drop by looping on key words of the song, dividing until there is a bit of anticipation, then jumping to a real drop using hot-cues, there are alot more features than u think.
Screwbob1711 8 months ago
@Screwbob1711 U could do all that in Traktor Pro 2 and save money, for the price I would only get the 2000 if you own a bar or club!

THE CDJ 900 IS LIKE AN "UPGRADE" OF THE CDJ 800 MK2
(more beat loop options and slip mode so u can beat loop without ruining your beatmatch)
THE CDJ 2000 IS LIKE THE "UPGRADE" OF THE CDJ 1000 MK3
(no loops options but the a,b,and c hot cues,, jog adjust,,more little details..)

@DJPWNSTAR go cdj 2000 with the djm 400 djm 400 is a very great mixer...one of the best.

which one would you recommend with Serato?
Djxtrodinaire 2 years ago
@Djxtrodinaire At the moment, they are almost the same functionality wise. We are hoping for HID support towards the end of Q2 which will give functionality with the hot cues/loops.

thats a great review, very helpful if someone is trying to justify the expense of the 2000.

We thought so too uptown. Really if you look at the features on the CDJ-2000, it's a no brainer!

@jeppoZ Not Hot Cues/Loops on the 900 - but it does have that beat chopper which is unique to the CDJ-900
