  • Radio Caroline History Thankfully Will Be With Those Who Heard The Station During The 1960s. I Believe we will hear Radio Caroline on the Medium wave very soon and I'm asking all of you who what to hear Radio Caroline on the Medium Wave' go to the Caroline web site and join up.

    Love this piece on the history of Radio Caroline' I have really enjoyed watching and hearing what was going on with Radio Caroline during their amazing past broadcasting life.

  • Yeah you're right tractor lad, it was Harold Wilsons government, politicians are afraid of anything that can unite the masses, that's why Maggie shut the pit's, nothing to do with unpriffitable mines, it was the strength of the unions they were frightened of, that's why today Blair & Brown shut down, split and sell off any businesses with a large union work force, io.e

    I didn't know that Oliver Smedley was part of the Alan Crawford consortium.

    In June 1966 Oliver Smedley's out of work dockers boarded the Shivering Sands fort where Radio City was broadcasting from. They took the transmitter which was destined to be used by Radio Caroline on the fort.

    The owner of Radio City, Reg Calvert, went OS's house, but was shot and killed. This signaled the end of the Pirates, and gave the Govt the excuse they needed.
