My best bench was 425, but it has been 4 months since I maxed out and I know I couldnt get that now. I dont squat thought, just leg press and lots of lunges!
How incredibly closed-mined. Big squats dont equal big throws, they're a strength movement and throwing is a power movement. I can only squat about 375 but I can clean almost 315 and throw the 2k discus 48 meters.
@hometownhero08 If you squatted more, you would throw further. Squats closely mimic a vertical jump and should always be done with speed in mind. Squats should be a power movement. If it takes more than 1 second to do a rep then you should lighten up the weight until you can. Every thrower at the olympic level could squat their ass off. Stop making excuses for yourself and get to Squattin!!! Sorry, I am a throws coach. Got a little excited there. :-)
@PearlGroove I certainly appreciate what you're saying about squats being a power movement as opposed to a strength movement. I've never really thought about always trying to complete a rep in under one second before, but I will certainly start trying that now. Our coach hardly ever has us squat in our comp. phase though, its always jumps, cleans, snatches, etc. But even with my comparatively low squat I still boosted my discus mark up to 50.44m. Good insight though.
@hometownhero08 Your coach is correct in that squats are not meant for final competition phases. Just fast jumps, cleans, snatches, and possibly a very fast 1/4 squat jump. Congrats on the PR ! I was never a great discus thrower I had PR of 47.26. I was a much better shot/ hammer guy. Best of luck at your upcoming meets.
yes unfortunately I had to, I had a pretty low point this year where I was struggling to hit 55-56, so I changed everything I was doing, and I stopped doing the routine and now that I am throwing well I dont want to go back because I havent done it in so long

My PR atm is 50'1.5" so I've got a long way before that lmao my shot spin is sloppy I basically muscle it, same with discus check out my vids!
