god bless you mr bolan who knows what would happen if you were still with us you inspired many musicians so you have made a mark that will never be erased
I'm sure he said on a radio interview that he would be dead before he was 30 and he died on 16th sept age 29 just before his 30th birthday on the 30th sept . Does anyone else remember this ? cause although I love his music I was never an avid fan so I could of got it wrong, Ive always felt spooked by this
@GeissB Let me try to clear things up for you.Yes he kind of predicted his own death,he always used to say "i don't think i'll live that long" I have knows quite a few artist, musicians and other creative people living by the art they perform wether it's music, film, writers e.g.it is said that artists as they are in deep touch with their emotional and spiritual life they do tend to somehow know their fate .it's not really all that spooky:)
That time's coming around again, next Friday. I wasn't there but I'm still sad inside. Some day I want to visit the memorial, and just remember Marc's genius and talent.
ironic that in the opening lines of "solid gold easy action" he sings "life is the same, and it always will be. easy as picking foxes from a tree" and the license plate of the mini was FOX 611L. which as we know collided with a tree. Marc was a talented musician who would definately have shaped the music industry differently had he lived.
I've a question. I heard this music some time ago and here they deleted it, but what was it if you please??? and why do they have to remove it like that??
@TheGeorgieboy2000 Its sad he died, but... And forgive me but, what kind of person would wish for his girlfriend to have died instead of him? I wonder how Marc would have felt about that.
WMG are the biggest pricks around, fuck off with your stupid copyright issues, sure you own copyright for the audio but for a video of this calliber and importance you really have no heart to remove it. I bet in this video there is great words spoken about marc in the report and you have removed it from our pleasure! FUCK YOU WMG
It's a shame there's no longer any audio to this - shame on you, you stupid greedy record companies - any artist out there - don't let your record companies do this sort of thing. It only hurts your fans.
Marc Bolan was one of the greats. If only he'd lived longer. He was only just getting started. A true poet. We are all poorer for his untimely loss.
Been to were the accident happened cannot understand how the mini ended up it that state unless they were speeding, the TREE even now is not all that thick.
@tanx54 In thise days cars were not crashworht...no airbags. and it was a tiny car. If you crashed into that today the aribag would deploy and you would walk way from it.
This is so sad, taken from us so soon, just when his career was on the up again with the Marc show on ITV. However, he predicted his own death, he did a painting of a tree and titled it September 15th, the date of his death when his car hit a tree in Barnes, London.
@Feisty1967 Er, I loved Marc but let's not get carried away here. It was Magritte who did that painting, not Marc. (Also, I hate to be pedantic but the painting was called "September 16th" (which was the date on which Marc died)).
Marc is still with us as i have seen him for real, call me crazy if yo wish, ive always been in tune with this magic man and always will be,god bless you marc xxx
The scene of the accident is Queens Ride, just passed a humpback bridge on Gipsy Lane in Barnes, South London. The accident happened around 4am on 16/09/1977. Some people are meant to do one thing and then sadly perish when that goal is achieved. Marc was to be the Glamrock legend he was. His death took Marc physically away but his music will ring out in the ears of the generations to come and i think Marc would be very very honoured by that. RIP Mr Bolan. Carry on riding a white swan in heaven
Bolan never learned to drive, fearing a premature death. Despite this fear, cars or automotive components are at least mentioned in, if not the subject of, many of his songs.
this video is so sad that i almost cried...i'm going to listen to the song that was supposed to go with these images...but somehow the silence is more effective cos it's as if the music died when he did...
Tell me what does WMG have to gain by removing the audio? It's selfish, exploitive and just plain stupid. Being the forgiving man that I am, I would like extend an invitation to WMG to stop by my house anytime and they can cheerfully eat my azz. (spoons will be provided of course).

P.S: If you listen to his other interview with Russel Harty, right at the end Russel asks "Do you ever think what you'll be doing when you're 50, 60 years old?" Marc replyed "No" Russel asked why, and Marc said:
Check out "Bolan's Prophecy" by WielderofWords. Marc had some very disturbing insights about what was to come. His own family has stated that he said from early childhood that he wouldn't live to 30. Such a beautiful and talented man, I know we all miss him. XXXXX
This is painful for me to even watch, brings tears to my eyes. What most people don't now is that Marc's seat broke off the hinges, spinning 180 degrees into the back seat before throwing him out the back window. It hurts my heart to imagine such a cruel fate, particularly when he had just cleaned up his act, found happiness and a new son. So terribly sad. I pray he is in spirit and we will meet him in the World to Come. RIP beautiful boy. XXXXX
Hi, pargaluvva! Read a couple of detailed articles that discuss this. I remember being horrified to learn that information, but when you see the actual photos of the car, hardly surprising, I suppose. Apparently Marc's neck was broken, which was a blessing in that there was no suffering. My aunt had an accident in a Mini Cooper once, and barely walked away. Damn thing crumpled like a tuna fish can. Every time I see one I shudder now.
Bless him, beautiful baby. I have seen some photos of the car and it looks like there is a lock of his hair near the passenger door. Why did he get in that bloody car??? Gx
Hi, pargaluvva! Yes, the police officer who was at the scene was interviewed, and I remember he said there was hair stuck to the door. Marc's Rolls Royce wasn't available that night, so they took the Mini instead. The mechanic who serviced the car didn't tighten the lug nuts on one of the tires, which likely caused the car to go out of control. Poor little boy, makes my heart hurt.
That's the first time I've heard about the lug nits. If true so sad. Considering how much still to this day try to blame Gloria with his death. I've read people's comments that say she was drunk out of her mind while driving. So sad, all of it.
The claim that Glo was "drunk" was completely disproven (even the investigating officer has publicly stated she was completely sober). It took Glo 14 years to even "recover" from Marc's death, and I can't imagine her pain at losing her love, best friend, and father of her child. I too am saddened when I hear these cruel comments about something that can only be called a horrible accident. Marc also loved Glo deeply and I'm certain he would be very angry to hear such words. XXXXX

Hi, RadioBazterd - I always heard that Marc was a polite gentleman, even during his "difficult" times. I was so glad to know that at the end, the "old" Marc had returned with the sweet, kind nature that made him who he really was. I pray that I meet him in the World to Come. RIP my beautiful boy. XXXX
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
sorry i have to say really who cares?is Mark a relation of yours? he died over 30 yrs ago yes he was talented and good looking but how many singers with the same or more talent have died in obscurity or how many people died full stop shit im depressing myself but you get my drift yes?
That is a bit cold don't you think? Of course we care about others that have passed or been killed, but this is a tribute to Marc Bolan page so have a little respect and then we can go on to the other pages of the others and pay respect to them as well, it's only right and fair, thank you.
I believe both of you (Cherstars & bondhemibond) are showing a great deal of disrespect for this tribute. Unless you guys can discuss in a mature fashion, without throwing personal insults around then please don't post here. I'm not against heated discussions, feel free to discuss, but I will not tolerate personal insults. I'm sure I speak for the majority here.
I was there at the funeral in 1977 at Golders Green. Bunked off school and went along. Bowie breezed in, Rod picked up some groupies, the girl from Brotherhood of Man (Sandra) was so upset she had to leave the chapel, Gloria's brother Richard was in a daze and all you could hear was the howling of Marc's mum. The swan floral tribute stood out - and I remember the white lillies from Slade. It was, and still is, such a sad day.
Marc Bolan always reminded me of Syd Barrett. I saw T Rex in 1974 The opening act was either J Geils band or Blue Oyster Cult- it was before anybody had heard of them. All I remember was that they were great. That concert was one of the last rush seating concerts in our city because me and a few other people almost got crushed to death. Just when I thought I was toast -someone managed to get the arena doors open and I stumbled in or got dragged in.
On the original single release (B side of Get it On) this little song was shown as "There Was a Time", running time 0.59, with Raw Ramp (4.05) following. In subsequent album releases, it has all been put together as one track and called Raw Ramp.
I find it somewhat confusing that you earlier stated that fame is no longer valued where Marc is now, and yet, according to Sir Kenny Everett's message Tea is still a valued commodity??
kenny means that he would never come back to this physical world, with all the things we have to face every day.its like me saying i wouldnt do such and such even if you paid me a million quid.
Allow me to explain my point: For you to use the term "i wouldn't do such and such even if you paid me a million quid." means that you and everyone else on this Earth values a million quid. Therefore, for Kenny to use the term "all the tea in china" means that even though he is now on a different world than us, he still values tea, and yet doesn't value fame because you claim that fame isn't valued there. It is therefore confusing to me that such a place can still value tea, but not fame.
They should have made his coffin from the tree the "mini" hit! My question is, could'nt they have given him a better box than what i see here on this video? For god-sakes!, it looks like they laid his beautiful body to rest in ply-wood?! This is truly upsetting, considering the money he made! RIP you lovely man.
Marc had a service and then was cremated. Some families decide not to spend a lot of money on a casket that is going to be a part of the cremation. Peace.
yeah makes me very emotional this vid. He was such a sexual and charismatic guy. I was really young when he died, but because im such a big fan, may as well be everyday for me. Miss you marc xx
i remember being 11 going 2 school and my mum crying at the news of marc, years later i named my eldest son marc , hes a great miss and always will be k.a.l.m.i.y.h xxx
So sad, what was the song in this clip? I'm not real familiar with alot of his music. I saw interview of him, he seemed like a genuinely nice guy. Thanks.
Every time I look at this video, I look at the seat he was in....totally flat. God, the impact must have sent him forward and then backward before being thrown from the car. Dare I not say a bad thing about Gloria Jones since she is so revered..as the victim. Not Marc's parents, brother, his friends, his son, but she is the victim of this crash. Ya think?
My sentiments exactly. I'm sorry, but I feel he would have been better off if he had not messed with that mo-town chic. But they made life and they had something. It's quite a shame, but somehow he knew he was a shooting star. May we always carry a little Marc in our hearts!.....Peace to you!
ummm not trying to be mean or anything, and i never took sides b/c know one will ever know the true story, but she was portrayed as anything but the victim, you should read the things people said about her then and now....
This is making me want to cry! By big brother is named after Marc same spelling co my Mum was a big fan, we once drove along in Barnes where 'the worst accident to hit British Rock n' roll, happened.
god my dad was so sad when he died and now i love marc and now for me it's so sad when you think back because he was just getting back on the road and also i feel sorry for rolan he was only 2 when he died
Just wondering - did this vid come from a documentary from British telly titled something like 'Who gets Bolan's millions ?' - saw that last year and was quite interesting.
Yeh! I went to work 7.30am(welder apprentice in the shipyards) and a so-called workmate said , and I quote "I hear your mates dead" .... I thought obviousley of my best freind ..... Nah! sayes The affore mentioned tosspot .."Marc Bolan"..
I spent the next 2 hours on the phone to my girlfriend in absolute despair .
Remember when this happened - joke that went around at that time was "what was Marc Bolan's last hit... a tree." No, wasn't funny then either, but an authentic bit of the 70's
well firstly innit it wasnt a yellow mini it was purple & secondly it wasnt an oak tree it was a sycamore ...but yeah its a very dangerous bend,i was over from Ireland at the 30th anniversay, the tree site is a shrine now & very beautiful & peaceful
Went to visit the site in Barnes today (weather was terrible), always wanted to go and pay my respects to Marc. It was nice seeing poems and other things left by fans from all over the globe, very moving!
yes, the tyre burst.control was lost.and the car hit the concrete post.the tree stopped the car going down the embankment.its a long story how i know but thats the facts...

Seat belts were not worn much in those days, and having a drink and driving was common as well.

Wow, rather heated here! Anyways, Bolan lives on in more hearts than anyone else. Period. Miss ya Marc.

Lucky enough to meet Marc in 1975, he gave me a cup of tea (too young to drink he said).
I just remember him being a lovely bloke.
RadioBazterd 3 years ago
Hi, RadioBazterd - I always heard that Marc was a polite gentleman, even during his "difficult" times. I was so glad to know that at the end, the "old" Marc had returned with the sweet, kind nature that made him who he really was. I pray that I meet him in the World to Come. RIP my beautiful boy. XXXX

sorry i have to say really who cares?is Mark a relation of yours? he died over 30 yrs ago yes he was talented and good looking but how many singers with the same or more talent have died in obscurity or how many people died full stop shit im depressing myself but you get my drift yes?
Furnace12 3 years ago
That is a bit cold don't you think? Of course we care about others that have passed or been killed, but this is a tribute to Marc Bolan page so have a little respect and then we can go on to the other pages of the others and pay respect to them as well, it's only right and fair, thank you.
Cherstars 3 years ago

Just when I thought I was toast -someone managed to get the arena doors open and I stumbled in or got dragged in.

can anyone tell me what beautiful song is it?
rocksimo93 3 years ago
i think the song is called " raw ramp." or at least the song raw ramp has usually accompanied this song on most of the marc records i have had.
artbydonna 3 years ago
thank you. it's own "raw ramp".. beautiful song..
rocksimo93 3 years ago
On the original single release (B side of Get it On) this little song was shown as "There Was a Time", running time 0.59, with Raw Ramp (4.05) following. In subsequent album releases, it has all been put together as one track and called Raw Ramp.

your most welcome sir.kenny everett made a true comment to me recently by saying "he would never come back here for all the tea in china" how true !
spookyphill 3 years ago
I find it somewhat confusing that you earlier stated that fame is no longer valued where Marc is now, and yet, according to Sir Kenny Everett's message Tea is still a valued commodity??
Sphinxpdq 3 years ago
kenny means that he would never come back to this physical world, with all the things we have to face every day.its like me saying i wouldnt do such and such even if you paid me a million quid.
spookyphill 3 years ago

RIP you lovely man.
rippheat 3 years ago
Marc had a service and then was cremated. Some families decide not to spend a lot of money on a casket that is going to be a part of the cremation. Peace.

ummm how can i purchase that song there was a time in America?
Lonita9 3 years ago
Every time I look at this video, I look at the seat he was in....totally flat. God, the impact must have sent him forward and then backward before being thrown from the car. Dare I not say a bad thing about Gloria Jones since she is so revered..as the victim. Not Marc's parents, brother, his friends, his son, but she is the victim of this crash. Ya think?
skilski2003 3 years ago
My sentiments exactly. I'm sorry, but I feel he would have been better off if he had not messed with that mo-town chic. But they made life and they had something. It's quite a shame, but somehow he knew he was a shooting star. May we always carry a little Marc in our hearts!.....Peace to you!
rippheat 3 years ago
ummm not trying to be mean or anything, and i never took sides b/c know one will ever know the true story, but she was portrayed as anything but the victim, you should read the things people said about her then and now....

This is making me want to cry! By big brother is named after Marc same spelling co my Mum was a big fan, we once drove along in Barnes where 'the worst accident to hit British Rock n' roll, happened.

The car was serviced shortly before and the garage didn't replace the wheel nuts properly. That affected its handling.

yes, the tyre burst.control was lost.and the car hit the concrete post.the tree stopped the car going down the embankment.its a long story how i know but thats the facts...
