  • also, whenever i go to file make dvd, right when it gets to the end, it says file error, file format not supported. then it cancels the burn.

    please help

  • @mtn2park

I need to know more details about exactly what is in your project and how you are doing things in Vegas and DVD Architect.

If you are placing videos directly into DVDA, then it only supports standard MPEG2, WMV or MP4 video - any other codecs will bomb out.

When learning DVDA - start with a very basic project before getting fancy.

Buy some DVD-RW discs so you can experiment without wasting discs.

  • Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD 11.0

    New Project only display

    AVCHD

    HDV

    DV

    Internet Video

    Match Media Settings

I do not have Sony DVD Architect Studio

    What can I do?

  • @Films4You

You are using the most basic version of Vegas Movie Studio - it is extremely limited and I do not recommend it for anyone. I have a comparison video on my channel right now explaining all this.

If you want to make DVD's, then you need the Platinum Version.

I suggest you watch the comparison video I made and upgrade to Production Suite if you can.

Amazon US and Amazon UK sell it ridiculously cheap at the moment.

  • @TemporalParadox1 Yes; Thank You I've seen the higher software at higher prices.

I am trying a Trail download of DVD Architect Studio to see how things go

I was using Nero Vision to make DVD but had an issue with this

Vagas Sudio HD Pro is still very slow form me but Ok otherwise

  • @TemporalParadox I am making a dvd with multiple 2-3 minute scenes made in different projects. how to i go about uploading each of these scences seperatly? your help is needed

  • @qlambdood

Type "menus" into the search box on my channel and watch the two part video.

  • thank u it really the video really helped

  • quick question: Ive spent days trying to get this to work. Im trying to add media (a video) into DVD Architect 5.0 Everything appears to be fine, i click make DVD, then burn it. IT goes through the rendering process, then tells me the file is of unsupported format. Ive tried everything from .flv,wmv,mpeg4,mpg,avi. What file format do I need to have it in to insert media and burn it to a DVD?

  • @Arvon2x

MPEG2 is the main codec to use for DVD's - this is what everything gets converted to in DVDA during the rendering process.

Windows Media Video and MP4's should be able to be imported into DVDA, but as I said MPEG2 is the No.1 choice.

    Here's a big tip:

Use DVD-RW (re-writeable discs) while you are experimenting, so you don't waste discs.

  • @TemporalParadox1 I tried about 5 different types of MPEG2 formats usign a converting program. It would load into DVDA successfully, then i would go to make dvd and burn it to my 4.7 gigabyte DVD-RW. It would go through the process of rendering the video, then it would tell me its an unsupported format. I tried the same thing on DVD Flick and it worked the first time.

  • @Arvon2x

What is the exact message that DVDA is giving you?

I think that "unsupported format" is referring ot something else.

It wouldn't be rendering the video if it couldn't read the videos you are using in the project. So something else is going on.

Do you have the Project Properties set properly in DVDA ?

Is it set to DVD? Make sure it is not set to BluRay.

Do you have the right kind of DVD Burner installed on your computer?

  • I have a quick question..

I just downloaded DVD architect and everything works fine with it but when I go into vegas 10 and click make movie, it says "DVD architect does not appear to be installed" even though I'm quite sure everything is installed properly.

Thanks in advance! Oh, and excellent how to videos btw. ;)

  • @ATXrollerblader

    Part 1.

Which exact version of Vegas & DVD Architect are you using ?

Only Vegas Pro will work with DVD Architect Pro, when you press Make Movie function.

The same goes for Vegas Movie Studio and DVD Architect Studio.

However, there is an easy way to get around this:

Instead of pressing Make Movie, render your videos manually and then Import them straight into DVD Architect.

  • @ATXrollerblader

    Part 2.

You will have to do two renders.

Render #1 is for the Video only using MPEG2 and one of the DVD Architect video stream only templates.

Once finished do Render #2 for the Audio Track using Dolby Digital AC3 + Stereo DVD.

  • @ATXrollerblader

    Part 3.

Final Step is easy and the best way to make DVD's (I have to update this video).

    Boot up DVDA

On the left hand side "Root Directory for DVD", right-click on top of disc "Untitled" - Insert Media - and then navigate to the Video you just made with Vegas.

Now just drag the Video onto the Menu Page.

    Done.

The Audio will automatically be matched up during the disc making process - just make sure the Audio has the EXACT same name as video & is in same folder.

  • @TemporalParadox1 Ahh, you're right. It's pro DVDA and vegas movie studio 10.

You have been extremely helpful, sir. Thank you.

  • @ATXrollerblader

Remember that when you buy Vegas Pro or Vegas Movie Studio, you automatically get the matching DVD Architect Software - you don't have to buy it separately.

  • man, i really needed to know how to do this! i was always a good graphic designer and wanted to make my own dvd menu titles.

  • @itsdrobtv

Make sure you watch my follow up videos on creating menus in DVD's.

This is still just the tip of the iceburg.

  • @TemporalParadox1 alright, thanks. i'll watch those too.

  • Thanks for posting these tutorials!

  • @rs4425

    No worries :)

  • dude say some stuff about oceans and birds and I can sleep to your voice :p

  • @fxnavarro

    LOL

  • Cool video but In the middle of rendering, there's a pop up that says: "An error occurred while creating the media file *****.******.mpg.

The system is low on memory you may be able to reduce memory usage by closing other applications"

    PLEASE HELP!

  • @smartsy1

How much memory do you have installed ? RAM

What Operating System are you using Vista, Windows 7, 32bit or 64bit?

Does error occur in Vegas or DVDA ?

Have you tried doing what the message says and turning off unwanted programs.

Examples - turn off Virus Protector, Skpe, Messenger, ITunes,....when rendering.

And when you render, DON'T use other programs like your web browser.

  • Does Sony DVD Architect Studio come with Movie Studio, or do you need to buy it separately? And if it's separately, is there a way to make DVDs through Movie Studio but without DVD Architect Studio?

  • Nevermind!

  • @elybellysmellyely

Message received - Vegas Movie Studio without DVD Architect, would be like trying to make a cup of coffee without water.

I encourage everyone to buy this version only - "Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 Production Suite".

This comes with Movie Studio, DVD Architect Studio & Sound Forge Audio Studio + bonus Fx & Transitions.

  • Hi, I was wondering if it would be possible to make a DVD with my avchd canon camera using DVD architect, I edit with Vegas but everyone always associates avchd cameras with blu ray, is it possible to just make a standard DVD instead of a blu ray DVD with my avchd camera?

  • Hey man just wanted to say thank you, this was very well done, really has helped me!!!

  • @EnglishStani

    Glad I could help.

Just remember though, that this is very basic and just one way to do this.

My preferred method is to actually Save the Movie from Vegas to the HDD and then Import it manually into DVDA.

I have some new tutorials on this coming soon.

  • Thanks for the reply. I was hoping to avoid Blu Ray (buying a burner and the disks) and to stick with high def AVCHD DVD which to date has worked very well for me. But, if there's no option now that I am using Vegas I suppose I'll have to bite the bullet!

  • V. helpful videos, thanks. I have a Panasonic AVCHD camcorder and have always used the accompanying software to edit and create high def AVCHD DVDs which play in my Blu Ray player. Is there a way of doing this in Vegas/Architect5? If there isn't I thought I could import the Vegas edited video into my Panasonic software and carry on using that to create AVCHD DVDs. But that software sees the Vegas folders, but not the files! Are there settings I should change in Vegas to achieve this? Thanks.

  • @Bakersfeld84

You can make BluRay AVCHD Discs with Vegas and DVD Architect.

The process for making BR is the same as DVD - just render to AVC instead of MPEG2.

If you watch my video on how to Create Chapter Points in DVD's, you will see me use some of the BluRay Disc Rendering profiles. Type "chapter" into search box on my channel.

After watching this, read my 3 part reply to OahuKidd below.

  • Hello. After rendering my video as you did at 6:20 the Architect button doesn't show as an option for me. Nothing is available but to hit "next" again and it says "this already exists, do you want to overwrite" etc... I tried going straight to the Architect but comparing my screen to yours mine looks different. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • @OahuKidd

    Part 1:

I deliberately made this tutorial as simple as possible, however it is not the preferred method I would use now - time to update this tutorial very soon.

    Do this:

    Open Vegas & Your Project.

If you used the New Project wizard the first time you started your existing project, then Vegas would have created a very useful folder structure instead of all the files floating loosely in the Vegas Project folder.

Click "Make Movie" then "Save it to my Hard Drive"

    *continued*

  • @OahuKidd Part 2: Click NEXT Format=MPEG2 Choose "DVD Architect NTSC or PAL Widescreen Video Stream" Click NEXT and Video Stream will render Before you click FINISH, take note of the file location FINISH Click "Make Movie & Save to HD" again NEXT Click "Advanced Render" to make Audio track Save As Type=Dolby Digital AC3 Template=Stereo DVD Click SAVE, then CLOSE and shut down Vegas Boot Up DVD Architect and set Project Properties Right-click on Menu & select Insert Media *continued*
  • @OahuKidd Part 3: Open Drop down box and find your DOCUMENTS folder - Vegas Projects Folder - your project Video will be in "Renders" folder Double click the Video file and your done. Now you can make your DVD. *A different way to Import Video into DVDA is- right click on the DISC icon in top left ROOT directory for DVD Choose "Insert Media" and find video from Vegas Then simply drag the video onto the Main Menu - this is actually the best way to import video into DVD Architect. *The End*
  • @TemporalParadox1 Thank you soooooo much. You are awesome!!! ALOHA!

  • @OahuKidd

    No worries.

Sorry about Part 2 & 3 being all squished up - I didn't write it that way - YT wrecked it when I pressed post.

  • @TemporalParadox1 LOL! No worries. It was all good. So I was able to complete everything but my settings may be off because when I watch it it has a flash(strobelike) during the whole video. Would you know why? I'm using footage off my GoPro. I have everything set the same way you do.

  • @OahuKidd

I don't know why this would be happening - I don't know everything about everything.

It could be a frame rate problem, because I know you can record GoPro at 60fps - DVD's are only at 30, 25 or 24 fps. If your GoPro footage was recorded at 60 fps, make sure you render to 30fps in Vegas.

    Try exploring the GoPro Forums.

  • @TemporalParadox1 Thank you sooooo much! You are awesome!!! ALOHA!

  • sorry to bother you again <but is there a way to put my media on a blu-ray disc cheap,i see sony vegas has the option to burn blu-ray disc<but i bet my computer only has a dvd burner?is there a program i can get?or do i have to have a computer that has a blu-ray burner?is there a cheap way to solve this ?and even if i use a dual layer dvd will the quality still be 480p?thanks for your help .

  • @Flybeast1

You need a BluRay Writer to make BR Discs.

Lite-On makes a good BluRay/ DVD Combo Read/Write Drive at a reasonable price.

As I said before, every DVD in the Universe conforms to the same International Standard - MPEG2 NTSC or PAL Standard Definition Video.

  • @Flybeast1

I use a DVD-RW (re-writable disc) to do short experiments with, where I change bit rates, colour settings, font styles, etc... to see what works best. Then I use a DVD-R to make the final project - that way I don't waste discs.

  • i have one last problem ,when i put my media in vegas and make a dvd the quality is not as good as original footage< original footage is in 720p ,but when dvd is made it looks 480p,the footage looks 720p when i put it on youtube, but dvd looks 480p is there something i can do?i only have a probem with quality when i put the media on dvd .

  • @Flybeast1

All DVD in the known Universe is 480p or 576p MPEG2 Video - which is standard definition.

Blu Ray discs are the answer for HD Video - that's why they are here now.

For video to look good on a DVD, it must be shot in the best quality to start off with.

You can increase the bit rate when you render a video for DVD production.

Also, there is a bit rate setting in the Project Properties in DVD Architect which can be set higher, however you may run out of room for the video to fit on DVD.

  • @Flybeast1

Also, remember that a TV screen is bigger than a computer screen - so pixelation does occur as it gets bigger and bigger.

When using Text & Colour on DVD's you have to be very careful with "Anti-Aliasing" effect that makes edges look blurry. There are techniques that can improve things. Google "anti-aliasing" and read the Wikepedia article on the topic, and then you will understand the problem.

  • Thanks for the reply ,this solved my problem. Thank you ,I sub to you now .

  • The dvd widescreen looks right when I put it in my computer but when I put it in my xbox 360 the dvd looks like 4:3 is there a reason why ?

  • And if I have already added like color correct etc. And rendered the video already then I import it in vegas again to make dvd do I have to re-render with the effects again when it renders for dvd or will it re-render with no effects if I don't add them again

  • @Flybeast1

You shouldn't be rendering any video twice.

You colour correct in the original project and then render to MPEG2 Video and AC3 Audio, then Import the video file into DVD Architect

    OR

    Use the Make Movie Wizard

  • Is there a way to burn a dvd with vegas and it be in widesreen like real movies.so it looks right on my wide screen tv

  • @Flybeast1

There are two three you have to look at.

Did you set DVD Architect to 16:9 Widescreen - by default it is 4:3 ?

    #1 Go into Option - Preferences - Preview - Aspect Ratio=16:9

    #2 Go into File - Properties - Aspect Ratio=16:9

#3 Sometimes when you render certain video types, you need to TICK "Stretch Video to Fill Output Frame Size" in the Render As window down the bottom.

  • Am looking forward to your DVD tutorials. Re Blu-ray, I can only speak of what is happening in the UK. I am a great supporter of Blu-ray but I have never been asked for a Blu-ray copy by clients. One of the reasons being that not many people have Blu-ray players and one of the reasons for that is the much higher cost for a blu-ray copy of a commercial movie compared with the same movie offered on a standard DVD. DVD's played on an upscaling DVD player gives excellent results .

  • Great news. Please let me know when the DVD tutorials are available to buy. Make sure they cover blu-ray authoring as well. It would also be a good idea to use close ups when indicating what buttons to click. Kind regards Roy

  • @RoyfromDurham

Blu-ray authoring is at the top of the list.

It's time for everyone to start using Blu-ray as the norm, now that HD Video Cameras have become the standard.

A short time after I made this video, I started to zoom in for all my tutorials when needed.

  • Thanks for your swift reply. I will follow your advice. Why don't you make and sell a DVD tutorial? I am sure there would be a big market for it. I have such a tutorial from Bill Myers but it doesn't tell me everything I want to know. Regards Roy Alexander (84 year old active film maker. See me on YouTube as RoyfromDurham).

  • @RoyfromDurham

I am in the middle of making a Tutorial DVD for learning Vegas MS at this very moment.

It will cover simple and in depth features, and teach people through logical steps.

I am also making an in depth Tutorial DVD to teach people how to get the most out of DVD Architect Studio - I think this application is vastly under-utilised and mis-understood by most.

    Thanks Roy :)

  • Hi. Congrats on your tutorials which I have only just discovered. I have a quandary regarding making a new project using VMS HD 10 Platinum. I wish to edit a video shot in HDV and when the edit is complete I wish to make a DVD. My question is this when opening the panel to make a new project there is a wide choice to select in the video box -Do I select HDV or DVD as my choice? looking forward to your advice. Thanks

  • @RoyfromDurham

    Very good question.

The safest option is always to set your project properties to match the finished project render settings.

So if you are making a DVD, then set the Project Properties to DVD (NTSC or PAL) Widescreen.

And remember that for DVD's you only ever render to MPEG2 Video - nothing else.

  • Awesome video. I followed the advice you gave TheSlideShows01 but for some reason every DVD I create will not play on a standard DVD player and will only show black. BUT when I look at the DVD on my computer that I created it on the DVD plays and looks fine. Any ideas? Does that sound like a problem in Sony Vegas, in DVD Architect or with my DVD hardware? I have Vegas 10 and Architect 5 if that's relevant. Many thanks!

  • @jeremiahkarpowicz1

What type of DVD did you use.

Some older DVD players don't play all types of burnable discs.

The TWO main types are +R or -R

    -R is probably more common.

If the DVD plays on your computer, then there is nothing wrong with the software.

When you say "only show black", does that mean you can hear the sound but no picture?

  • @TemporalParadox1

When it's black it's no sound or audio. Originally I used a DVD-R and then switched to a DVD-RSS but had the same issue with both. But then I tried a different computer at work and a Playstation 3 and both of them worked just fine with both formats. I set it up so that the DVD begins to play immediately, do you think it could be an issue with not having a menu? Any advice on maximum playability by putting in menus or not and which burnable disc to use? Thanks for the help.

  • @jeremiahkarpowicz1

I have DVD-R to be the most reliable.

There is one simple thing you should do before anything else - make the same project with a menu.

It's dead easy. Just dump the video straight into the main menu - you don't have to do anything fancy. Once you have done this, it will narrow down the problem big time.

I always use a couple of DVD-RW discs for experiments, so that I am not wasting discs.

  • I tried making a dvd but it says i have to download DVD Architect Studio how to i get that?

  • @RandumbMuch

If you actually bought a copy of Vegas Movie Studio, then DVD Architect comes with it as a separate program. The two go hand in hand together.

  • @TemporalParadox1 Yes I did purchase Vegas Movie Studio, but I don't ever remember installing DVD Architect so I will have a look. Thank you ! =)

  • @RandumbMuch If you bought the Production Suite Version, you will also have to install NewBlue Fx and Sound Forge Audio Studio and other freebies.

  • What if you have like 5 videos to add to one dvd..example. video, interview, trailer etc. Also, can dvd architect allow a commentary track or multiple audio tracks? Can you play a video for the menu screen instead of a flat image?

  • @shaolonbros

Watch my 2nd series of videos on DVD Architect "How to Make a DVD with Menus.."

Only DVD Architect Pro can give you multiple alternative track layers.

Yes you can add a video as a menu background.

It takes time and patience to get familiar with this program, but it is worth it.

  • i`ve made a video in Sony Vegas Pro.10, and I have DVD architect pro 5.2.

I`m kinda new to editing, and I don`t know how to get my project file from Sony Vegas into DVD architect. Please help me, i really hope it is possible to do!

Can someone help me? I would be forever thankful!

  • @TheSlideShows01

#1 Make sure your Project Properties are NTSC or PAL DV Widescreen in Vegas

#2 Make sure you render to Save As Type = MPEG-2 & Template = DVD Architect NTSC or PAL Widescreen (this is video track only)

#3 Do 2nd render for Audio Track, choose Dolby Digital AC-3 and Template = DVD Stereo

#4 Start up DVD Architect and Right-Click on DVD Menu 1 and select Insert Media - now search for video from Vegas - DVD Arch. will match audio track automatically

  • It would really help if you zoomed in on your selections from the pull-down menus.

  • My question is if you have a high def video would it mess up the rendering to dvd format into standard def?

  • @rickydepths1

That is an extremely interesting question.

There "should' be absolutely no problem to use HD Video in your project and then render it to MPEG2 for a DVD. It should make your DVD look really hot.

I have literally only just purchased an HD Camcorder, so I will add this to my test list.

  • does that dvd software come with sony vegas movie studio platinum 10?

  • Hi @rosswood0602

    Yes it does.

My suggestion though is that you spend a few extra dollars and get the Production Suite pack.

It comes with Vegas, DVD Architect, Sound Forge Audio Studio, plus heaps of bonus material - extra video transitions, sound effects and instructional videos.

Production Suite is the only package I recommend because it is unbelievable value for money - you wont be disappointed.

    Dex :)

  • @TemporalParadox1 thanks! i just looked at the one i ordered and its the production suite (which was lucky) lol. it cost me 44 pounds which is a very good price for all of that software

  • @rosswood0602

Make sure that after you have installed all the programs, that you manually open up the Install Disc, because some of the bonus material is in separate folders outside of the installation programs reach. You will find Video Tutorials and Sound Fx files etc...

  • @TemporalParadox1 ok thanks for the help

  • @TemporalParadox1 can i still buy the Production Suite package after buying platinum 10 a couple months ago? or will it cost more serperate.

& how much does it cost? because that sounds like i could really use that!

  • Great video and very helpful. Nice to have a tutorial without back ground music and a voice that is a pleasure to listen to. Thanks, will now look at part 2

  • Thanks so much for the info :)

Just wondering with the studio version what is the max number of layers you can have? Thanks!

  • Hi @SmallvilleFanatic600

     I don't know.

What I do know is that adding too many layers can crash your computer because the Hard Drive and Computer can't process everything at once.

    Dex :)
