@evelynepopa12 no its not sad, its called survival instinct if it wouldnt be there the human race or any living thing would have died out. its pure nature human and animal to save yourself first. however feelings like pride love courage or respect can still counter this instinct more so in humans then in animals
Remember the time when captains went down with the ship, instead of bailing before anyone else? I wish we could have said the same with the Costa Concordia...
The Titanic exhabition is in Copenhagen right now, i went to it with my daughter who is aged 9.we got an ipod each, and there was 70minute audio presentation... unbelivable..seeing things that was actually on the Titanic was so unreal. at one point this song was played, and i got tears, could see that many other people also started crying.i lost my dad at sea when i was 12... so when it has something to do with sea disasters i always feel something. my birthday is apr15.will be special.100 years
Tragedy is, that in neither of Titanic movies this perhaps most notable of events has ever been reproduced in already available details, such as trivial number of band (properly: bands' members). There were total 8 of them, quartet and trio + bandmaster Wallace Hartley himself.
One would think that they deserve at least that much...
"Many that live deserve death. And some die that deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then be not too eager to deal out death in the name of justice, fearing for your own safety. Even the wise cannot see all ends." -- J.R.R. Tolkien
I died there, remember as it was today, not always, sometimes ...my mother was very far away inside of her, wearing a blue dress, she was far away looking at the sea,it was a pain inside, something was heavy and faaar inside since we got there,i remember that time and odnt remember the sinking, only that and when i could not take the painful heart beatings in the water anymore and said "i accept to die,all right",its hard to know you will die,to KNOW
you'd have to be either stupid or dumb to dislike this song this is the last song the titanics band played when it was going down so try to have a little respect.
Why people always play Bethany when the topic is RMS Titanic? This version of Nearer My God To Thee was never played on the actual ship (it the hymn was played at all, the version played was either Horbury of Propior Deo) and the bandsmen weren't even familiar with it, so why make connection between them?
Good point; the other tune is used in the 1958 Titanic film. I suppose it's just artistic licence as we can't be sure what the band played if they played anything at all. Bethany is the better tune though, in my opinion.
With all respect to those lost on the Titanic, the media footprint of it's sinking has made almost every other sinking invisible to the public. This is a real tragedy considering how little was learnt from the Titanic.
i love this song, and i also like the films, but only the old films. they show more about the titanic itself. I know very much about the Titanic and the White Star Line. I love this old Story. And next year on the 14th April, the Titanic is 100 years old. I would love to see the Titanic once in my live. Its one of my biggest dreams.
to the dumbasses who disliked this song I hope you enjoy hell,a lot of good people died on that ship and they will never be forgotten,I salute all the brave men and women who lost their lives on that day
they played this at my grandmother funeral. it was fitting seeing here cascic being lowed into the earth while this was playing i droped to my knees crying. my grandmother was the world to me and now i can never see her again. do you have any idea how hard it is relsing you cant touch or hug a loved one youve see your entire life?
@DEMONshot666 you can once you die if you were both Christian, if you aren't I am sorry and dont mean to offend, but that's just what I believe, Im not trying to force my beliefs upon you if you're not Christian, but instead only trying to make you feel better

@Fredi81 I have a similar feeling with this song. I'm not affiliated with any religion, but this song for some reason resonates on some extremely deep, unexplainable level. I cry every time I hear it. It's the only song that does that to me. (BTW, I'm a totally normal guy with a typically cool, calm temperment. I have no idea why this song is so powerful for me).
RIP to those that lost their life that night, who ever hears this song.... This is the song that defines Titanic and the crew =Beautiful. Never forget Titanic still is the ship of dreams, i for one wish i could have sailed on the Titanic
@Joeyzaza13jc totally agree...this was my favorite part to the movie when this song was being played...and saddest part...they will never be forgotten

It is hard to believe but it has been almost 100 years. One tragedy in a century full of tragedies. WWI was just two years ahead, WWII, 37, and we on a new century still think we are unsinkable.

@AkurokuX3 When on january 1999 I saw this movie at cinema Moderno in Lucca with my wife, for the first time after many years I start to Sob !! when the little titanic orchestra start to play this song.... while my wife was smiling about me...but I wasn't the only in the theatre.
@Wertuma I do agree with that! As soon the orchestra starts playing this song, I start getting goosebumps and start cries! and I normally don't stop until after the captain is dead!!
@Wertuma Maybe you never saw the old 1953 "Titanic". It was horribly inaccurate in many ways but it did the absolute best scene with the old couple, Mr. and Mrs, Straus.
