her job is to convey the emotion, like in the black swan movie, natalie portman was not a ballarina yet she won academy award, same thing. and there are real musicians in this scene.

she said that she couldn't play the pathétique so for her playing the Chopin is impossible...

Yeah she's faking it, like every actor in this drama, and as far as i'm concern I think they're faking it better than a lot of other actors playing musicians (cf Jamie Foxx in the Soloist, Melanie Laurent in Le Concert...).

I'm a cellist, it's not perfect, and yeah you can tell she's not playing when you're a musician yourself, but for the others it's not that obvious...

if it would be a criticism that actors and actresses must be able to play an instrument like the characters whom they perform, we wouldn't have more than maybe 3 or 4 music films in the world. i don't know why people here are getting excited over such stuff. it's a drama. a movie. not a documentation. so relax and just enjoy it. even if it's not "real". ;D

@clementia101 There is a Nodame Cantabile soundtrack for sale over in Japan. I believe this concerto is on it. There's a great deal of wonderful pieces in it -- and no commentaries during the performances at all. ;)
