greyhounds and whippets are incredible animals and athletes. unfortunately, their natural running capabilities are used for monetary gain through dog racing...which is fine because it's what the animal absolutely loves to do. but when the dog ages and can no longer reap a profit for it's owner, it's often discarded and mistreated. though a greyhound can not run as fast as a cheetah, he can reach his top speed far faster! they really are loving, gentle dogs and deserve to be treated as such.

Unfotunately alot of these greyhounds aren't treated right. i own one i took in from a rescue centre after he was badly treated and abandoned after racing.

however many of these dogs have good loving owners and trainers who love and care for them and treat them very well.

they are beautiful, affectionate and loyal dogs, and they naturally love to run!

I tell ya I never bet on her, and watching her run is a brilliant thing to see - oh and they are bred to RUN - actually they were bred to run with horses ALL DAY!!!

I've just done a two year degree on animal sports. I can promise you the animals are not mistreated in any way otherwise they would not be allowed to race, police and RSPCA would get involved etc and say bye bye to the trainers career.

Same applies to horse racing. The horses wouldn't run if they didn't want to, and if they were mistreated how do you think they have such glossy coats? The slightest cut on a horse shows up like a beacon.

I can tell you, I KNOW these dogs get abused. Hell there are pictures all over the place of the mistreatment of greyhounds. The reason greyhounds are all "rescued" is because of the fact that if they are not they will be euthanized. If that isn't the highest form of abuse I don't know what is.
