She was singing at 2.600 meters over sea level, Bogotá - this is the reason she takes a breath at each singole word - At that level over the sea it is IMPOSSIBLE to sing and to breath : ask to all the Singers who sung there , and all of them must admit it !
Miss Gulin NEVER did such a lot of breathing : I remember her at her last performance at ARENA di VERONA , singing LA GIOCONDA with Carlo BERGONZI and C.Nac NEIL ...my God , she was UNBELIEVABLE , AMAZING .... the best !!!
Angeles Gulin was a great dramatic soprano who could have done much more than she did, if it weren't that she was pushed from one big role to another by her money-hungry agents. At any rate, the tempo here is way way too slow. I can tell, she was not comfortable.
It is a shame as the basic voice is good. I have a recording of her singing I Due Fosari and she simply collapses not being able to finish the cabaletta of her big aria and that is in the beginning of the opera.
Gulin was a very good singer too, but unfortunately she was not a marketing diva as... We have to remember her before those late performances, especially from Verdi scores. And Spontini - Fernando Cortez - so hard to sing !
Wonderful voice!I'm a dramatic too and I find it very inspiring to listen to such great voices since I am training and I consider myself very young and unexperienced.
She takes too many breaths, I agree. The sound is fantastic, and she might sound more italianate, but Turandot is not a typically Italian role. Nilsson was by far the best in this role. Nilsson and then Gina Cigna and American soprano Gladys Kuchta. Gulin is untidy and cuts the line too many times.
Yes sir, you are right. I saw her (Dimitrova ) in my country Argentina years after Nilsson. Dimitrova was excellent too ! As for Gulin a coach told me she had worked in Chile with her and found no breathing problems. Gulin suffered a hard diabetes and surely her health deteriorated quickly.
Nilsson certainly had the power, but was not stylistically appropriate for the role. This lady at least has the italianate sound and colorings that are...
Thanks for the information, I thought it was the same person. Angeles Blancas Gulin will sing Il Pirata in Marseille next season and I was wandering if it would be worth it buying a ticket. You seem to be quite enthusiast about her!
She is FANTASTIC.ASbsolutely! C´est le genre de cantatrice qui me fait grimper sur les rideaux.D´ailleurs j´adore Marseille, son Opera et Mme. Auphan.
This is better than the Ernani aria elsewhere on YouTube, but the voice is still full of severe faults.
In this she is ably matched by the awful tenor.
It's amazing what some opera houses will put up with to put on a production!

She was singing at 2.600 meters over sea level, Bogotá - Colombia, Teatro de Colón.

@cualalumpur2
does that effect the voice? Im curious
Chilair1 2 years ago
Because that height the air has less oxygen and the singers get tired themselves

@cualalumpur2 I thought Teatro Colon was in Buenos Aires?

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Here again I think this role is too big for her, she is running out of steam, cutting short the big notes or not pronoucing the actual words.

I agreee, she runs out of steam. I wouldn't have notice before, but after listening to Marton, Nilson, etc, I can tell now.

An extraordinary artist and person, the likes of which one so rarely comes into contact. One of the biggest voices ever.
It's the Teatro Colón, by the way, not Municipal. This precedes the Argentinian house by many years.

Beautiful voice, but as many others comment on, I don't understand why she breaths so often.
Turand0t 4 years ago
Its not easy for an european singer to sing in Bogota. This city is at 2600 mts altitude. This is the reason she breaths so often.
I live in Bogota and I attended this performance.
Production was wonderful!

Her performance is annoying, no center and dramatic amplitude. Nevertheless, some beautiful high tones.

Her voice is warm, powerful and light at the same time. I don't know why she has to breath so often.maybe the director asked so
