NATURAL LIMITS TO EVOLUTION: Only evolution within "kinds" is genetically possible (i.e. varieties of dogs, cats, etc.), but not evolution across "kinds" (i.e. from worm to human). How were species living and reproducing if their reproductive system and other vital organs hadn't evolved yet? Read my Pravda Internet article: WAR AMONG EVOLUTIONISTS! I discuss: Punctuated Equilibrium, "Junk DNA," genetics, mutations, natural selection, fossils, genetic/biological similarities between species.
INTELLIGENT DESIGN DEBATE: IF YOU DISCOVERED A SAND CASTLE ON A LONELY BEACH, YOU CAN’T PROVE THAT IT WAS MADE BY EITHER CHANCE OR DESIGN. NO ONE OBSERVED ITS ORIGINS. EITHER IT WAS DESIGNED OR THE RANDOM FORCES OF WIND AND WAVES MADE THE CASTLE. YOU FIND NO FINGERPRINTS. DID THE WIND WIPE AWAY THE FINGERPRINTS? BUT, HOW DO WE KNOW THERE WERE FINGERPRINTS IN THE FIRST PLACE? BY CHANCE OR DESIGN? BOTH SIDES SHOULD BE FREE TO PRESENT THEIR CASE!
There is no real violation of church/state separation in teaching both because no one is being forced to believe in God's existence or any religion. Taxpayers on the both sides of the issue pay for public education. It is only fair that scientific arguments and evidence of both sides be presented, at the very least in public school textbooks. The issue is important because it affects people's lives, their values, philosophy, and worldview.
This is ignorant---how can Tory not understand that in science a "theory" doesn't mean the same as in popular usage? Gravity is also a theory as is all demonstrated knowledge derived from the scientific method.
No John, there is overwhelming evidence for evolution -- it is not simply some ones opinion. Creationism on the other hand is religious speculation derived from faith with no hard evidence or science to support it. There is nothing to teach apart from saying ---"god did it".
if the churches and "good" christian parents do their "jobs" why do we need the bible and creation in public schools??? and do we have enough time in our already-less-than-mediocre-schools to squeeze in the bible? how about other religions? do we have enough hours in a school day for that? how about, i don't know, making religious education an elective in college, maybe? can we do that?
This is just posted by the likes of Warren Kinsella, Ben Chin, and other sleazy political operators that make me want to barf. Guys like them are making politics vulger and that's why more and more people pay no attention. Not to say that the Tories and NDP are any better, they all do it. But Warren Kinsella is likely the worst of all. He makes a career of insulting and degrading anyone. He can't possibly feel good about himself. He and his ilk are corrosive to the political process.
I think you missed my point. My point was that it's ridiculous for theists to have a freaking fit because they think evolution is taught in school. The fact that evolution takes place has been proven many times but it has yet to be proven that it's where we came from and it is not taught as such. So basically they don't want even the possibility of something else taught to their children.
"Evolution is fact creation is fairy tale " ...you missed my point. ....it's ridiculous for theists to have a freaking fit because they think evolution is taught in school. Yes I did miss your point.:-)
Evolution and "Theory of Evolution" are the same thing. The word "theory" is not a bad word in science. It is the ultimate goal of science. Of course, you don't understand that because you're ignorant.
I'm voting Liberal, but I don't think John Tory looks bad at all in thus clip. I don't agree with extending faith-based funding, but if it were to be done - John Tory is fair to say that in that situation children would learn evolution as a science and also creationism as a faith belief.
In no way does this show that Tory wants Creationism in public schools, he's just saying that it could be taught the same way as it is in the Separate School system, in theology/religion classes exclusively.
The only difference is that the theory of evolution is a scientific falsifiable theory based on evidence whereas Christian theories are not scientific and only considered theories in the colloquial sense of the word.

''...other Theories...that are part of some Christian belief.'' WTF?!?
The ID-iot does not know the difference between a Scientific Theory and a religious belief.

Creationism isn't a theory, it doesn't even qualify as an hypothesis.

"theory" of evolution is a lot better than "belief" in a dumb broad and a talking snake with an evil magic apple!

John Tory hitched his wagon to Fundamentalist Christians.
Too bad they didn't deliver the votes he needed. Oh well, it worked for George W. Bush!

Evolution is not taught in schools. The theory of evolution is taught in schools.

Liberals taking things out of context.
What else is new. Mr. Chin a lot of people have spread around that edition of CHCH News where you attacked the media.
I hope your party is tossed on their ass.
