  • :P now try it on a G Baritone

  • "Is he circular breathing?" Well, no $#!+.

  • Comment removed

  • Honestly, after the first bumblebee run, it just sounds like random notes... Great job on the glissando at the beginning though..

  • who cares if its good or not, it has no place in dci or i&e

  • and wtf is with the dancing and the squeaks

  • I and E is not a drum corps competition. It is merely to acknowledge the musical talent throughout members participating in DCI.

    Give it some slack.

  • @onewiththepiano

i know what i&e is i aged out years ago

  • Cool, so you know it has nothing to do with a drum corps performance.

No need to keep woodwinds out of I & E since it's just on the side. Especially when there is so much talent out there

  • This has no business at a dci function! Drum Corps in the junior world is dead!..

  • he probably studies w/ Robert Spring, technical genius, circular breathing master.

  • I only have two words to say. holy crap.

  • This is AMAZING. Plus the great transition from one piece to the next - wow, I'd love to play like this

  • holy jesus, that guy is amazing...

  • Kudos to you! I was going to play something similar the same year...but my clarinet chops were no good after a summer of marching. How did you find the time to play during tour?

  • nice circular breathing he's got going there lol

  • 0:52 the perfect gliss

  • I . . . want to throw my bra onstage!

  • I thought there werent woodwinds in DCI...

  • My thoughts exactly... am I missing something?

  • technically, no there aren't any woodwinds in DCI. However, woodwind players are allowed into DCI if they play another instrument, like this guy said he played euphonium in the corp. The corp may also have a woodwind player if the player is for a special feature, i.e. a solo.

This is the first I&E thing I've seen, but I think it gives everyone a chance to show off on their native instruments, not just their dci instruments, which is why clarinets are allowed. :)

  • @trouble292 corps*

  • What corps did you march with? I can't tell by the uniform. :(

  • it looks like The Academy

  • HA! This made me giggle...

  • haha so good. did he actually get an award even though its not brass?

  • this is I&E, any instrument brass (trombone/french horn included), woodwinds, strings, piano, perc, whatever. There are categories for each instrument.

  • thanks i didnt know that. i just thought you could only use the instruments allowed for corps. probably cause i dont watch many I&Es outside of percussion.

  • where u get the music?

  • it was made up. he had the music for rhapsody in blue, and flight of the bumblebee, and just synched them together nicely.

  • If I could only choose 10 seconds of music to listen to for my entire life, it would be the first 10 seconds of your performance. That glissando was beautiful.

  • don't know if I'd take it THAT far, but yes it was a great performance

  • i just shat bricks

  • I might do this at my next choir retreat! Or I might put a video of myself playing this on youtube...

  • If you hear closely, the judge asks what he plays in Corps, and he said he plays euphonium.

  • people like that should march ww in corps. lol.

  • I go to school with this kid, probably one of the greatest clarinet players EVER.

  • i thought they didn't have woodwinds in DCI

  • they will soon... unfortunately...

no but the individual and ensemble competitions include woodwinds and other stuff too, which is cool

  • what's wrong with woodwinds?

  • drum corps is drum and bugle corps.

    bugles are brass.

it couldn't be called drum corps with woodwinds on the field and it would change the entire activity

  • That and you can't hear them on the field, at all.

Where did you hear about DCI having woodwinds soon? That would make me mad if its true, thats what the pits for.

  • What do you mean they will soon?!?!? God that would change EVERYTHING...I hope your kidding.

  • I know, right?

    That would completely change EVERYTHING.

it probably won't happen though, i was exaggerating :-)

  • Holy shit, nice rip....

  • wow you can move your fingers fast.

  • wow you can make yourself sound like a total idiot.

  • wow... you can chill out...

  • I am chill. I just love how he can make himself sound like an idiot by trying to insult an amazing performance.

  • he was trying to insult it by saying he moves his fingers fast?

    thanks for the compliment though

  • I took it as a sarcastic remark. you take it how you want. Arguing on a video will only detract from the true performance. and now that I'm here I think I'll watch it again.

  • It's so hard to play this song on an instrument that is hard to change notes on.

The slurs are toooooo slurry on a clarinet.

Other than that, the tone quality is amazing.

  • The first thing I noticed was his assertiveness...wonderful talent

  • Nice use of circular breathing.

I didn't know that they had I&E for other instruments.

Looks like I'll have to take my Tenor Sax and my Bass Clarinet along =]

I've always loved flight of the bumblebee on Bass Clarinet personally.

  • yea he circular breathed through the entire piece of flight of the bumble bee.

  • Wow, that was really good. Nice tone and glisses. And does he circular breathe? It seemed like he played a majority of flight of the bumblebee in like one breath...which is insane unless he is good at taking quick breaths. Talented dude.
