BASIC is not that hard, when I was 7 I used to write my own little games in DOS which I then played, as my parents were the type that believed that computer games were evil and a waste of time, so they didn't buy me any. Looking back now I think they did the right thing, otherwise I wouldn't have been left with this wonderful memories of a blue screen writing commands in caps lock :). Pity I didn't catch the Apple ][ era, I got my first computer with XP preinstalled :(.
