  • Where do you find those satin outfits today???

  • Now that's an entrance.

  • ELO ES ATOMICO!!!

  • Jesus this is better than the DVD I own, (the one with Discovery on it) oh well better get over to Amazon then, and the spaceship stage still looks cool.

  • ta`wea es la pura zorra pueh ñore.....!!!!

  • super____________THX:-)

  • It's the permed hair that cracks me up rofl.

  • Your royal highnesses, ladies and gentlemen, children. And to those of you who are not highnesses or ladies or gentlemen. All who are here. I bid you welcome. And peace and happiness to all of you. For the disabled children. And for this great, great honor that's been presented to me. To present to you, the most outstanding rock group in the world today. My friends... The Electric Light Orchestra.

Thank you Tony Curtis for the wonderful opening to a wonderful concert! =-D

  • Always play this tune in my car when I'm down. 4 minutes later, the world is RIGHT again.....:)

  • A revelation when this DVD came out. Now where are tapes from the Time Tour? I still cannot believe there were no recordings made. There is more chance of the moon being made of cheese!

  • If there is a bad ELO song I haven't come across it yet!! LOL! My fav group next to The Beatles!

  • Burger King spacial! ja ELO is special and spacial . Long thanks to The Beatles,E.L.O. and Queen for yours melodies. thanks England

  • Awesome ELO!

  • great memories from 1979, thanks

  • I bought the DVD version of this (With the Discovery bonus film) and they have the version where they sync the fucking album! It really pisses me off that now I have to buy this concert twice.

  • Does this mean i gotta go out and buy the dvd again?? I knew for years they had put the album version over the top!!

  • Horrible efects! the man who put these efects don't like elo. Mr blue sky video is horrible, i can't see the cello players jump and dance.

  • First time seeing this. I had only seen the mimed one. I always wondered why they would mime over this but not over the others on this VHS/CD. Thanks for posting!

  • Just ordered my copy of this concert, from amazon, tragic that on the original that this track was dubbed with the studio, version, whoever did that ought to be screwed.

  • Me too! This is a great clip

  • I went to one of the concerts they did at the Myer Music bowl in Melbourne Australia in Feb 78. absolutely awesome night, definatley no lip syncing!!!!!

  • Oh God this is awesome. I never got to see this concert. Thank you so much for posting this!

  • Saw this at Pontiac Silverdome, late 70's. What an awesome concert!!

  • I saw`this concert in the late 70's at the Pontiac Silverdome in Detroit. Awesome!!

  • RIP Michael "Kelly" Groucutt (bass).

  • Yes, the updated DVD is a revelation - the original VHS video was the first actual video I ever owned and quite a novelty to have back then, so I tended to overlook the very dodgy sound quality.

They don't make band like this anymore (come to think of it they didn't then either!)

  • What's Jeff doing at 1:49? Telling the sound man to turn him up?

  • Please tell me EXACTLY where you got this DVD... the VHS I got of this back in 1994 is crap.....here I thought the whole time ELO was just singing over their own studio tracks, but this proves not to be. TELL ME WHERE TO GET IT!!! You're great and I subbed ya.

  • @lonstar70 ...got mine on Amazon 3 or 4 years ago.

  • @lonstar70 hi, its available on Amazon or play dot com called Out of the blue live at wembley 'Special Edition' its the one without the Discovery bonus!

  • @ELONut Cool, thanks!

  • @ELONut Thnx!

  • I have been trying for a year to get this DVD back from my 23 year old son! He won't give it up! I taught him right!

  • their music is absolute genius

  • there's a burger add next to the video... not bad Mc Donalds... not bad at all...

  • They had 8 sell out shows at Wembley! This truly was the height of ELO's career! Superb vid m8! =-D

  • Nice video! Thanx for the upload..

  • If it is Bev ....... nice man boobs

  • Fantastic. Its so full and obviously live

  • It just goes to show how good these blokes are, they get their song to sound so close to the original, but you can tell it's not recorded because of the clarity and depth of the viloncello, those notes are so clear and the bowing is perfect. You don't get that on a studio recording much these days :D

  • I love this song, and I love Electric Light Orchestra! In the early 90's, when you were a kid, ELO was all you grew up with, and I loved it! =-D

Super vid m8! I wish more bands would take Jeff Lynne's approach to musical contribution! =-D

  • Spectacular ! ELO made OOTB tour about half of the year in 1978 in the world.

But they didn´t visit Finland. What a shame ! A New World Record got sales here about golden record. It was MUCH here those days of a foreign artist.

  • I became an ELO fan back in '77, after the release of Out of the Blue. I couldn't believe the quality of the sound. Most albums only had a few good releases, with a lot of filler. Every song on this double album was terrific - and some of them were instant classics. I ended up buying all of their albums and following them until their dissolution. It's nice to see that they still command a strong following, from generations then unborn.

  • I just turned 20 and have liked these guys since I was 15.

Jeff lynne is the man and this DVD is amazing, I recommend every fan pick it up or at least watch it all the way through.

  • please post more of Elo if you have it ,i hope my son and doughter who are in their early 20tis get this great band

  • @MAXIMAS1964 I am in my early 20s and have been listening for 15+ years

todays music cannot even be mentioned in the same breath as these guys

  • @pfunkmaster21 Yeah not to mention when you went to a concert like this you surely got your money's worth! And saw real musicians, and vocalist! The technology back then for vocals was nothing compared to now and yet they sound bloody excellent!

  • Is that a female drummer and not Bev Bevan?

  • @hueyhhh LOL!. No bad perm and dodgy tailoring, Its Bev!

  • @hueyhhh Ha! Ha! Love it!!

  • @hueyhhh it s bev bevan with long hair.

    you dont dis the bev.

  • thank you for posting! Now, THAT is a live performance! The 70s fashion rocks!

  • first saw this on bbc1. first introd to ELO early 80s via my dad and older cousins. absolutely brilliant musicians. interesting to note that violinsky cominsky is my work colleagues neighbour. also, if it hasnt been mentioned already - check out bev bevans man boobs!

  • I remember about 30 years ago this concert was the only one you could see live. And here in Finland only by the television because ELO never visited here. A great mystery though ANWR was gold record here. But now we have YouTube service where you can see almost every ELO performance you like !

  • So much better than the original version that we've been stuck with all these years. Can feel the power of the live performance. Thanks for posting it.

  • I saw this concert tour in Omaha Nebraska, and was forever floored by the whole sound superiority as well as the complete total theatrics to this concert. I'm glad after all theseyears that the footage shows my memory was not lacking in any way to the power of this concert

  • Loved it too, don't think I've heard this song live before.

  • Well bugger me! I too always thought ELO mimed some of their stuff because of that bloody video of this concert. It's great to see this and realise they didn't lip synch the song after all.

What twat put the album track over this peformance when it was shown on TV? He/she should be shot.

    Viciously.

    And then some.

  • My Sentiments exactly!

  • I'm so pleased you posted this. I've had this DVD for years and I was always very disappointed that this song was being obviously mimed. I thought maybe it was too complex for them to replicate live. Now I see that it WAS live, but that some idiot saw fit to overdub the album track onto the video. Why? This live version sounds fukken fantastic! I look forward to binning my DVD and finally getting hold of the proper live version.

  • @trossachs2003 I always thought this was an overdubb. I know stand corrected with the authentic audio.

  • this is kick arse solid now as ever.

  • Fantastic song, Fantastic Band, & Out of the Blue- Fantastic Album!!

  • And a Fantastic comment!

  • People who say they mimed are ignorant. But they DID play to backing tracks on early OOTB tours to augment the orchestral aspect.

  • I just watched this DVD for the hundredth something time, and just noticed the intro. When they show all of the bigwigs and royalty arriving, who is there to greet them but Sharon (Arden) Osborne!! I hardly recognized her, but her voice is very distinctive. So Funny!!!

  • Not bad, but I don't know why they originally over dubbed this track and a few others on other releases of the Wembley gig.

  • Thanks for posting...this was my second concert and I remember the spaceship like it was yesterday.

  • OOTB tour lasted in 1978 about six months but they never visited then Finland. Even though for example A New World Record was a gold album here in sales.

  • Beast of Bevan beating the shit out of the drums. Jeff remastered it in the DVD like Bev is in your damn living room with his kit.

    Awesome.

  • haha "Beast of Bevan". I love his style: Take a drum, take a stick, now hit drum very hard.

  • Brilliant concert. I there. Brilliant band. Saw them again on the Time Tour. Shame this video was spoilt by Mike Mansfield and his Vision Mixer. DREADFUL!!!

  • NO one can compare....no one else has ever sounded like ELO and doubt they ever will.

  • ELO-SUPER!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The You Tube video doesn't do this justice. Kudos for ELONut posting it, but get the DVD and you'll love it.

I just received mine a week ago and the remastered live sound is great. Jeff did a fantastic job on this.

  • You've got to love ELO!!!

  • If they ever invent a time machine guess where I'm going(!)

  • wow... it's really sad :'(

  • Bassist Kelly Groucutt has sadly passed away on the 19th of February 2009, I am sure all ELO fans around the world join me in condolencies to his family and friends.

RIP Kelly, you will never be forgotten

  • Most definitely. Thank you for all the amazing music Kelly. ELO is the greatest!

  • Damnit, He was a great bassist and singer. Why do the good ones have to go?

  • Amazing to hear this song again!!

  • That spaceship in the intro of their performances from the 70's and the 80's kicked ass!!! I thought that was the coolest intro of any group in history!

  • They pwn MUSE even with a 30 year gap... trust me, that is very hard for me to say!

  • they are playing while the original playback is sounding back of them

  • Watch jeff give Richard a bollocking at 1 min 50. I think Mel also got one for playing piano during Roll Over Beethoven. Love the live vocals on this version.

  • what happened? it looks like he's saying "quieter!" what was being played wrongly? I can't tell... drums sound a bit loud.

  • Looks something like "let's get this show on the road!"

  • He also signals to his roady at the start of this song to turn up his guitar. Even now folk still say they mimed. Bollox. If they mimed why would Jeff signal to turn up his guitar?

  • I think we're both referring to the same gesture. I've always assumed it was aimed at Richard because he seemed to be having technical difficulties. You could be right, it just never occured to me. ELO did play live but received critisism for overdubbing after the event on tracks they weren't happy with. This wasn't the case on all of the tracks. On the next song 'Night in the City' there's no such jiggery pokery going on.

  • What im refering to happens near the start of the opening song called Concerto For A Rainy Day. He starts to walk away from his mic, then frantically waves his hand up and down to say turn up my dam amps!! All this ''miming'' rubbish started because ''live'' ELO used backing tapes ( no digital back then ) for sound effects like thunder and traffic noise or whatever. From that started the ''miming'' roumers.

  • Most of the early ELO members were classically trained. They were WAY too good ''live'' to mime. They had absouloutly no need.

  • Another interesting thing i've noticed about this concert. On Mr. Blue Sky at 3 mins in, Jeff and Kelly sing "for sooo long", then look at each other and laugh. It was obviously some in-joke they had going. I didn't mean to imply the band had mimed. But an article in the press said they'd enhanced the sound on 1 or 2 tracks prior to broadcast or release on video. The story may or may not be true, i mentioned it out of interest.

  • Sorry trap0001 should have read "stuff " ! Soz !

  • Fantastic !Love it ! By the way trap0001 love your suff on here too !

  • Finally, the "real" live version at Wembley. Much better than the version with the recorded songs overdubbed.

ELO was one of the best touring bands ever. They worked hard as a touring band to make it big and were tight.

  • Absolutely amazing but...woulda been better if you hadn't cut off the end! WTF?!?

  • I didn't cut anything off. There is no pause between the end of this song and the next

  • Oh! Sorry you know what, my bad...I'm used to the other version of this show w/ the studio audio overdubbed, and I think that lasted a little longer

  • would love to have been at this concert, What a trip!

  • Very awesome! With all due respect why does it look like Bev Bevan has boobs here?

  • You know, I've wondered that for years! Glad I'm not the only one...

  • Well his real name is BEVERLY :)

    unfortunate tailoring

  • It is a loose shirt and he'd perhaps been doing a pecs worksout before the gig.

  • appart from the very last second I think this is the best I have ever heard Jeff sing this.

ELOnut you deserve a massive gold star for putting these up.

  • 4:20 - What DOES he sing??? Answer please - and don't say 'You know I try so hard' as Kelly always sings in ELO PtII.

Great track - not easy to play live at all.

  • sounds like "if you could tell me the answer" but I know what you mean that part isn't on the sleeve notes that I can remember.

  • EUREKA! He sings 'You know I'm trying to make it out there'. I finally figured it out ;)

  • Thanks ELONut, finally a stereo version!

  • Excellent. I love this song; one of my favourites from Out of the Blue.

  • Ok, here, it sounds more like a live performance, not as "perfect" sounding as the other clip. Thanks!
